Have I shared this here? Probably, but here's the latest. Yesterday and today, a mild chest cold, and bad weather dictate I not work on outdoor projects, providing some much welcome time at the work bench! So I pulled out the Unimog project. I finished up the engine detail and glued it in the frame, and added the cab. Then the rest of the details were added.

This is the project, mocked up a while back. A Revell Unimog meets a DG wrecker body swiped from a promo toy and in the midst of being redetailed.

Engine detail was very sparse, and no other details were provided under the hood, which was molded closed. But NoOOoo! I had to go and open it up! These following details have taken FAR longer than the whole rest of the model would have if I'd left well enough alone, but here goes.

Air compressor, radiator overflow bottle, power steering pump, breathing tubes, air filter can, and a few other items were scratchbuilt. A few parts were also taken from the parts boxes and modified to work. This is as much would be done to the engine before the cab went on:

Once the cab was added, the rest of the details were added, such as breather tubes, hydraulic lines, etc.

Any details here were added, not from the 'Mog kit. Radiator, heater blower and duct, air filter, some firewall details were added using photos of real vehicles as a guide, and some imagination to fill gaps that I couldn't find pix for.

Additions to the engine compartment: (Anything not red)

Add 'em up, and plumb 'em in:

Here's a look at the original air cleaner I'd made (too small) and the better one made on the trusty Sherline lathe. (original was made before I had the lathe)

Gotta love that machine!
