Dan!

Step away from the monorail!
I repeat..................................... Step away from the monorail.

You're never going to finish the crane project if you keep taking on new ideas.

It is pretty cool however. How do you supose that they kept it up-right with only one set of wheels for one rail only. Did it have training wheels?

Mike

Ah! After seeing Chuck's post today I now understand this concept.

The other day I got a disc full of detail photos from Rick Marty on the Westlake Forum.
It was chock full of detail shots of the truck-mounted lumber stacker on the first page
of this thread. Many of those cool details HAD to be included in the model, so the whole frame
was basically redesigned.

The front leaf springs were scrapped in favor of this pivot-type suspension system. The axle
was retained; the wishbone is brass with a 000-120 machine screw soldered to the end....

Posted Image

Everything is pinned for alignment....

Posted Image

Here's what it'll look like all together. Two nuts will hold the pin on the crossmember....

Posted Image

The rear spring was deep-sixed, too. The rear will be U-bolted to the brackets.....

Posted Image

Heidi demonstrates how flexible the new suspension system is.....

Posted Image

All new motor mounts were installed, too. Wait'll you see the rest of the drive train.
The reference photos from Rick showed a really unique operating system.

More to come. Thanks for looking.

Helllooooo Heidi! :D

Looking great Ken! I love the brass and the plastic. Very cool. Does the brass take primer the same as plastic? I have not worked with brass much. But it looks like it's fun to work with.

I always enjoy seeing other guys start out on a project and go back and make changes. I don't feel so alone then. ;) That working frontend is too cool. I don't recon Heidi gets hassled to much, eh?

Don't worry Mike, it's more just curiosity on the monorail. The crane will be my main project for some time to come.

Poor Ken. You guys should all be ashamed of yourselves. All he's trying to do is make something that can neatly stack his stir sticks someplace in his kitchen so his wife won't get mad at him for having too much modeling "junk" in the house.

But noooo... You all turn it into a math quiz and you know that's just going to give Cranky more headaches and needs for those baths. You pick on his er, um "female friends" and some poor guy that Ken hired to make sure everything is aligned and seated properly.

You go for it Ken. Don't mind those "other" guys. Keep building and keep smiling.

By the way, you're doing a wonderful job so far. And if her phone number is available, well, nevermind...

:D

In the hood we call that "three wheel motion."

Can't wait to see it with a '64 Impala body on it. :ermm:

That would be "stacked!"

I heard there was a scale fire in Cape May County New Jersey and the local lumber yard along with an arcade game restoration business were totally destroyed. I sure hope it wasn't close to Ken's house. Film at eleven.
