that you now have that you wonder how you ever got along with out?

Mine is this. I just used it yesterday, and today, and boy is it sweet.

I use single edge razorblades constantly. Even more than an Xacto knife.

Way cool tool Merc. I bought a Flexifile and my Badger paint mixer. Best $12 tools I've ever bought. The flexifile paid for itself 10 times over when I had to build a monster truck for Lindberg to display at the iHobby Expo in 2008. The thing had a full roll cage front to back top to bottom.

Way at the other end of the spectrum from Dave's single edge razor, my Sherline mill and lathe. I kinda count 'em as one set, that's how they work out. I considder my crane project to be the single biggest model project I'll ever attempt, shoot, I dreamed about it for almost 30 years before starting on it. A short ways into it, I realized it just ain't gonna happen without some serious equipment. It (the tools) has been useful beyond the crane, an assignment it is not done with yet.

Here's the handiest little tool I've got:

(This is MicroMark's catalog photo. My fingernails are never that clean.....)

I use mainly tube paint now, so the old jars of Floquil really settle out
and are hard to mix. This thing drags up and mixes all the globs of
pigment from the bottom of the jars.

I have to agree with you, Mercman. For a mathimpaired person like me, there's nothing better to cut the same angles over and over.

Although not truly a tool, I would have to say my camera.

My cutting mat with squares on it is the best tool I have ever bought for modelling. I don't know how I survived before.

My most recent purchase was a new work bench. I got rid of the old 1930s oak roll top (anyone want to buy it?) and replaced it with this classic Eames desk, which is the best modelling space I have ever had.

PS Merc my CutterII gets a lot of use. Its $30 well spent.

The only problem with a big workspace is it ends up looking like this:

This little rack came out of my tenants freezer we junked today. Works pretty sweet, and helps clean up a bit.

Took about 45 min to an hour, then it looked like this:
Ahh, nice and clean

but to stay on topic, I'd have to cheap out and say my Dremel. There is no way to model without one!

I know this is not really what you're looking for, but think of it: my computer has connected me to the modelling world, and products and sellers that have changed my approach to the hobby dramatically. Without internet, I'd have never even known about a LOT of stuff that I now use quite often, and a lot of the stuff I've bought was from web access stores. Plus the tips and advice received from this and other forums. I'd still be building, sure. But it sure has opened up a far greater world of modelling.

My Dremel is hands down my weapon of choice. You can do anything with the right attachments.

By far the most used tool next to an exacto...

They go on sale at harbor freight sometimes for as little as $5.99! Pretty much cheaper than buying a new battery!

Speaking of harbor freight, this is up there too...only $28...

Bench Top Cut-Off Saw. Wish it would do a cut greater than 45° though...
