Jim's Garage is now open.

I have an idea I want to try out. So I might as well use the local garage.

I'm hoping some of the car guys that hang out there can help me with the project.

Can't wait to see what you got cooking. The garage looks better each time I see it. Someone better walk the dog though or move the tool box.

Here's the deal.

For many years I've been collecting 57 Chevy kits. The 57 Chevy is my favorite car. I have always loved the look of that car.

But I have never built a model of one. Mostly because I could never decide how I wanted to build it. And of course I could never build a model of a stock 57 Chevy. Too boring for me.

Then a few years ago I found these pictures on the internet.

Then bingo.!!................ Aha', an idea.

The idea came to me to build a model of a car that has not been built yet. (And never will be built).

My dream car in a crate. With all the parts, engine, wheels etc.....

I am going to attempt to detail the AMT Pro Shop 57 Chevy kit to look like a kit car that was shipped to me so I can build my dream car...... someday.

We'll see if this works or not.

Wow. Those reference shots are awesome. It's amazing the detail put into making the dash look empty, the trunk pan, and the hinges. You're gonna take this to a whole new level though. Can't wait to see it.. :)

I know those reference pictures look like a scale model, (especially the first photo), but it's a real car. LOL

LOL! Wow, had me fooled too! And I own a car similar to that ('69 Firebird). The picture seems almost a little too "clean" for real life. Sheech... I must need to get out more!

I can't wait to see your project take shape, Jim.

Wow, so you are going to cut out all the little holes on the 57 to make it look like that. Fabulous! You gotta keep us eye candy fed. Go, Jim, go!!!

You definitely have your work cut out for you HJ. But I know you can do it.

Might I suggest getting some new friends? Those individuals look like they will steal the fumes from your first coat of primer and try to sell it back to you. Plus tools. You realize you will need lots and lots of tools. I believe they have the dog trained to steal tools, as you lay them down he picks them up, drops them in a garbage can and then returns and licks your face. Shoot the dog before it's too late.

I downloaded tons of pictures of 57 Chevy body parts. I think I have plenty of reference photos.

D'oh! I feel silly now. Goes to show that we see what we want to see. I could've sworn that was all an elaborate diorama from someone who doesn't know how to weather. It's all so clear now. Love the firewall.

Great project! You always think up some neat stuff. Hmmmm...
I wonder if it's going to be left all in bare metal and called the Bad Nickel?

Excellent, Jim. This is definitely going to be another great one. Keep it going. I'd love to see the faces on folks at the tables when you display this one in the brand new 57 Chevy category!

Well, as it turns out these guys who work here at the garage are worthless. All they are interested in is girls and beer. So I'm going to have to do all the work myself.

These guys will just be props. No story, no interpersonal relationships.

Doing some work on the floor. Time to delete the carpets and floor mats.

Fire those guys, Jim, and hire me!!! I'll play the drums while you work!

That's looking great, but I'm confused about the before and after. I thought the after was supposed to also have drilled holes, etc . . .

Hey, how did I miss THIS???
Jim, this is fantastic! What a great idea - and (although I hate to say it) there's
definitely a "Gustavson Influence Factor" going on here with the prototypically
correct firewall treatment and proper floor pan. (You might want to get that "GIF"
surgically removed before it takes over your entire body)
Looks like another winner, Jim.
You always come through with amazingly imaginative stuff!

Great work on the floorpan. I'm with Ken though. I'm sure this could very easily turn into Model Madness. Be careful, HJ. :P

This is a great idea Jim. There is a company that makes repro '57 bodies...I've seen them advertised in Hemmings. Their website ...if I could remember it...would have a lot of useful reference pics for you.

Great work so far.
