Thinking some of Richard's luck would rub off on HIS Forty, Mike Boyle
tried the platform without any luck. Richard's success rubbed Dave
Roehrle, too - the wrong way. Normally mild-manner Dave, in line behind
Mike, was determined not to let Richard get the best of him.

Posted Image

Acrid smoke belched from Dave's stacks as he pulled up to the platform.

Posted Image

He inched further and further up the platform as every burning eye in the
crowd focused on the bellowing Behemoth.

Posted Image

The crowd fell silent as the last of his 10 mammoth tires hit the platform.
Dave backed off the throttle for more control....

Posted Image

....as the Teeter-Totter collapsed under the weight of his stupid truck.

Posted Image

Thanks to Dave, the fun was over and everybody just went back to the car show.

Since there's nothing left to do here, we might as well take a walk
behind the Speed Shop and check out the junk yard.

After the Teeter-Totter debacle, some of the dispersing crowd headed
for the junkyard while Dave and his bulbous Kenworth sheepishly limped away.

Posted Image

Locked and loaded, these junkyard angels are ready to shoot anything that doesn't move.

Posted Image

There's no pile too rusty for a real Car Guy.

Posted Image

From a pile of fenders.....

Posted Image

...to an old metal sign...

Posted Image

...to a rusty truck body. Everything in a junkyard is worthy of a few pictures.

Posted Image

Even the mandatory Junkyard Dog, who we hope is on a heavy enough chain.

Posted Image

Car guys tend to get stupid in a junkyard, though.

Posted Image

Like....posing for a picture while leaning on one of two pieces
of wood holding up a multi-ton truck is a good idea............

Posted Image

Karl-O is a sucker for piles of old cars. They give him great diorama ideas.

The Southgate Garage Crew can't resist the Call of the Wild Junkyard either.
Here they pose for a group photo before routing through the rusting relics.

Posted Image

Lou's Balloon Rides made a few passes over the junkyard...

Posted Image

He even swooped down for a low pass, during which he managed to almost
drop into a pile of crushed Yugos headed for China. Only a last second blast
of hot gas saved him and his terrified passengers.

Posted Image

For insurance purposes, the rusty car bodies up on the hill were off limits,
but that didn't do much to deter the more persistant photographers.

Posted Image

Speaking of trespassers, a few comments have been made questioning
the ferocity of the Speed Shop's junkyard dogs. Well, the staff has assured
us that the guard dogs are all well training to protect the property against
any troublemakers..

After all the pieces of the Teeter-Totter were disposed of, the giveaway
cars were lined up in front of the shop prior to beginning the raffle.

Posted Image

The starting time of the raffle was announced over the K&J Public Address
System as spectators and raffle ticket holders began to trickle over to the podium.
The Mayor of Mizpah will preside over the proceedings and "Miss Mays Landing"
will pick the winning tickets.

Posted Image

In a last minute development, Clare Gilbert has announced that he is donating
a kit version of his '41 Willys. He's also throwing in a set of mag wheels, just
like the ones used on the Blue Willys that's here at the Kruize.
So, in addition to all our other great giveaway prizes, some lucky Kruizer will
soon be going home with a wonderful Willys. Thanks, Clare.

While we're waiting for the crowd to assemble, let's take one more look at
the line-up of Giveway cars:

From L to R: David King's restored "T" roadster pickup; Merc's Dirty
Bird dirt track racer and his '55 Chevy; Sully's Surf Wagon and '70 GTO musclecar;
Chris Gottschlich's heavy duty Chevey stakebody.

Posted Image

The Mays Landing Jamboree Band was back for the drawing, after leaving to
do a 1/2-day gig at the Grand Opening of the Egg Harbor City "Super-WaWa"
(for you out-of-towners, "Super WaWa"s sell gas)

Posted Image

Lou was up in his balloon taking some fantastic aerial shots as Miss Mays Landing began the drawing.

Posted Image

Ladies and gentlemen, it's time to pick the winners!!!

Posted Image

Restored "T" roadster pickup - Clare Gilbert
The Dirty Bird - Jim Fernandez
The '55 Chevy dirt racer - Mike Napoleon
Sully's Surf Wagon - Virgil Suarez
1970 GTO - Dave Roehlre
Chris's Chevy Stakebody - Ron Royston

Congratulations to all!

Posted Image

Next we have some kits to give away:

Clare Gilbert's new Willys kit - Junior Berg
(Hey...I don't know if Merc had a deal with Miss Mays Landing
or what. She just handed me the winning ticket)

HO Diner Kit (courtesy of David King) - Dave Sullivan
HO Truck kits (also from David King) - Howard Hazleton
Two 1/25th-scale Docks - Steve Curbishley and Jerry Sims

We'll get to all the other winners in a bit, but first...
THE MOMENT WE'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!

The GRAND PRIZE WINNER at the

K&J SPEED SHOP 2007 FALL KRUIZE IS............

SHANNON DIMAULO
Posted Image

Canadian modeler Shannon Dimaulo was somewhat of a late arrival at
the Kruize. In fact, her '40 Ford almost didn't make it at all (It's a long
ride to New Jersey from the Great White North). But we're glad she did.
Shannon is a super modeler who heard about the Kruize on the former
"Hobby Heaven" board (now known as the "Spotlight Hobbies Forum").
Here's a link to some of Shannon's work:

http://public.fotki.com/MoparLady/my_model...rd_tudor_sedan/

"Luck of the Draw" or not, the Grand Prize couldn't have gone to a better person.

Posted Image

As the Mays Landing press descends on our winner and the
Jamboree Band breaks into a rousing version of the Absegami
High School Song, there isn't a dry eye on the Fairgrounds.

CONGRATULATIONS to Shannon....and a HUGE K&J "Thank You" to
BEN STONE for furnishing amazing assortment of prizes that Shannon will
get as the GRAND PRIZE recepient!!!!

While everyone was in one place celebrating Shannon's big win,
we decided to line up for an Official Group Photo before anybody
started to head for home.

Posted Image

All 28 of us lined up and smiled pretty for the photographer.

Posted Image

This is a good time to recognize each and every particpant in this milestone event.
Without the dedication of these individuals, there would be no Kruize.
Thanks to each of you for making this a memorable event:

Junior Berg, Mike Boyle, John Collett, Steve Curbishley,
Shannon Dimaulo, Jim Fernandez, Chester Fesmire, Dan Frizzel,
Clare Gilbert, Christian Gottschlich, Ken Hamilton, Howard Hazleton,
Melvin Jones, David King, Tim Kolankiewicz, Tommy Kortman, Tommy May,
Mike Napoleon, Richard Olson, Karl Osolinski, Dave Roehrle, Ron Royston,
Lou Scrima, Dan Stobert, Ben Stone, David Sullenberger, Dave Sullivan and

We lined a bunch of cars up, too, and didn't even scratch any paint.

Posted Image

Okay, everybody....say "Cheeze":

Posted Image

In case you're wondering how we got that last "elevated" shot......

Posted Image

Same scene; same crowd; different camera angle.

With all the excitement of the Raffle, one activity that's been
overlooked is the Car Wash sponsored by the Mizpah Mizfits Car
Club Ladies Auxiliary. The K&J balloon captured the action from above...

Posted Image

Closer to earth, we see Dave Sullivan's wagon getting cleaned up for the trip home.

Posted Image

Dan Stobert needed to wash off some Kruize Dust. There was a long line of
cars and the ladies were busy all day. Don't scratch the paint, girls...

Posted Image

Tommy May, never one to pass up an opportunity to be around the ladies,
checks out the scenery while the Hot Rod Girlz wax his toy.

Posted Image

Even Mercman jumped into the act. He and his chopped Kustom
attracted lots of attention, and Ol' Merc was having the time of his life.....
.....until MRS. Merc showed up.

Posted Image

BUSTED!

With the scheduled activities completed and the prizes given out,
it's just about time to wrap it up. For one last look at the Kruizers as
they leave the fairgrounds, let's hang out for awhile at the front gate.

Not surprising, Hollywood Jim is anxious to head for the more
hot-rod-friendly environment of home. Because of his newly
found local "connections", he's immune to further prosecution....
so he takes one last opportunity to make a statement that's
directed towards his earlier adversaries.....

Jim's departure is a tough act to follow, but many others have a
long way to go, too. Dan Stobert's drivers finish up their pre-trip
inspections and get some last minute directions before hitting the road.

Posted Image

Some of the Kustom guys decided to leave together and do a few laps
around Mays Landing and hit the WaWa before heading for the Atlantic City Expressway.
Ben Stone leads the way in his Best-Paint-Winning Kaddy, but he pulled
away too fast for us to get a good picture.

Posted Image

Fortunately there was another Kruise Photographer on the other side
of the street. He was able to capture Ben, followed by Howard and
Steve Curbishley, pulling out of the Fairgrounds.

The exodus continues as Dan Stobert pulls out in his pickup
(he left the heavy-duty driving chores to his crew) followed
by Richard Olson in his Merc.

Posted Image

Now this isn't what it looks like.......
Tommy Kortman has been itching to put a hurtin' on my '55 ever since
he got here. With the help of the Mizpah Police Department, we closed
down the road for a few minutes so we could race for a hundred yards or so.
Tommy hooked up a little better while I went up in smoke.
Best two out of three, Tommy???

Posted Image

Totally oblivious to what's happening out in the street, Lou and Chef Bink
negotiate a deal so Lou won't have to cart his horse all the way back to
New York.....and Chef Bink can make a few pounds of homemade scrapple.

Posted Image

It took a while, but they reached an agreement. Karl-O was taken aback
by the sight of Chef Bink's passenger.

Posted Image

As they headed for home, Le Chef's passenger was under the impression
he was going out to stud (...hence the smile...). Chef Bink was smiling,
too, thinking of the many bricks of scrapple he'll be serving at his next
catered affair. Meanwhile, Clare Gilbert is thankful he's in FRONT of the van.

Everybody wants to leave with a full tank, so the pump island
is a busy place. Melvin Jones is filled up and ready to hit the
road pulling his trailered Cobra. Clare Gilbert and Richard
Olson will be right behind him on the highway.

Posted Image

Richard also needed to top off the Ice Cream truck, but every time
he stops, he's swarmed by kids (young and old) who want ice cream.

Posted Image

Since Mercman was the first one to arrive, it's only fitting that he should
be the last one to leave. Only this time, several of his new friends are on
hand to see him off. He ordered T-shirts for all of them, so its a good thing
they all gave Merc their phone numbers so he'll know where to deliver the shirts.

Posted Image

As Merc pulls away, the K&J crew wastes no time taking down the Official
Kruize Banner. They say it will be neatly folded and stored away in the
attic, but it wouldn't surprise me to see it on eBay....

Posted Image

It doesn't seem possible, but the longest day in model car history has
come to a close.

What began as a car show that was to be photographed outdoors in
real time over the course of one day - starting in the early morning
light and ending when the sun was going down on the other side of
the Fairgrounds - turned into an epic adventure that lasted a little over
2 months (2 months and 3 days to be exact)

This could never have happened without the involvement and generosity
of every one of you. Your enthusiasm for this project kept the fire going
and turned the Kruize into something that has never been seen before and
will probably never occur again.

Whatever happens in the future and however the Kruize is remembered,
always keep in mind that only a handful of dedicated modelers can say:

"I WAS THERE"

Thanks for a great ride.
