Farik's car pulled up outside of the expensive villa he had hired to host his 'networking' function.

There was only an hour or so before his 'guests' were due to arrive, but it gave them enough time to freshen up and ready themselves...the catering and entertainment already taken care of by his staff.

He got out of the car and walked around to the passenger side, nodding to Kasim who had stopped in the car behind as he passed by the hood. Opening the door, he stretched out his hand for his wife to help her to alight.

They had spent a most pleasant morning breakfasting together and he had given her the tour of her new home that he had promised her and though he had ached to take her again, he gave her time to recover, knowing that he would want her that night...would take her long into the early hours...

Turning to two servants who moved forward he said,

"Take our bags inside and escort my wife to the master bedroom."

They bowed and one moved to retrieve the bags from the trunk whilst the other one bowed to Basha'ir who looked at him.

"Make our room welcoming for us habibti," he said.

The tour of the villa - her new home - had taken much of the morning, and then it had been time to leave. The journey had been a long one... long and hot, and she had spent much of it going over in her mind all that she had learned that morning.

This new place was unfamiliar - the second unfamiliar place in as many days, and so hard on the heels of a flight from her father's home - she tried not to feel too overwhelmed. She had promised Farik she would not let him down.

As he held out his hand to her, she first checked her hijab, and then slipped her fingers into his, gladly accepting his help to get out of the car, and stand by him... behind his right shoulder as he instructed the staff in their duties. She looked at him as he told them they should lead her to the master bedroom.

"Make our room welcoming for us habibti,"

She smiled faintly, and nodded once to Farik.

"Of course, my love," she answered softly, and briefly touched his forearm before taking a step to follow the staff.

Kasim stopped the dark SUV just behind Farik's car, and turned in his seat to the security detachment sitting in the rear two rows of the vehicle... his own personal elite... behind where he had installed Rose, in the passenger seat.

"Hakim, Abdul-Amir, Farhad," he looked pass the middle row to the three tough looking men in the rear seat of the SUV. "I want the two of you walking the perimeter, coordinating the security already here.

"Jasim, take a team of four, and set up a walking patrol of the ground floor inside the villa, Tarek, the same for the upper floor." He took a breath then, and looked to the final member of his six man team.

"Rashad," He looked at the tallest of the men, who sat impassive directly behind the passenger seat, "I want you running personal security for Mrs al-Safwan whenever Farik is not with her, when he is, you support the two of them - clear?"

"Na'am, Kasim," Rashad growled, "I know my job."

"See that you do," Kasim instructed, then pushing up his shades as the six men left the vehicle, he turned to Rose, "I thought perhaps you might like to... assist Farik's new wife - it would be another woman to speak with... rather than just tell you to wait for me in my room."

He tried to keep his voice patient, soft, not wanting to stir her attitude toward him again.

Rose listened with not much interest as Kasim instructed the men who sat in the rear of the SUV.

She had been more than surprised when he had told her that morning that they were going to one of Farik's functions and that she was going to accompany him and even more surprised when he had seated her next to him in the car.

Her belongings had arrived at his apartment sometime before she had woken and she had swallowed one of her heart pills with her breakfast.

She had no idea what to expect of the evening to come, but since Kasim seemed to be treating her like a human being for the moment, she decided to return the compliment.

"That would be nice..." she replied as the men at the rear began to alight and she reached for the door handle, not accustomed to waiting for anyone to let her out and she slid from the car, coming face to face with Farik.

As his wife began to move away he watched her for a moment before moving to stand by the side of Kasim's SUV and he took a step back as the passenger door opened and a pale pair of shapely legs swung out and he found himself face to face with Rose Edwards.

He saw her swallow nervously and his eyes narrowed at her.

"You are still alive," he commented dryly, his comment an observation, not an accusation and he raised an eyebrow at Kasim as he joined them at the side of the car.

"I hear Ameen was called upon in the night..." he said, his eyes leaving Rose to look at his Second.

Kasim came to a halt beside Rose, ready to act in case she should try and do anything... foolish, listening to Farik as he addressed the woman and then pointedly ignoring the raised eyebrow for a moment before he was directly addressed.

"What can I say?" he began speaking in Arabic for Farik's sake and to save himself a whole load of balls-ache if Rose knew what explanation he gave. "She pleased me." Then he switched to English so that Rose would understand the rest of the conversation.

"Yes, I sent for Ameen," he nodded toward Rose, "She became unwell in the night - has a heart condition and had not taken her medication. I had it brought to her this morning."

Farik's eyebrow went a notch higher as Kasim said the English woman had pleased him and then he frowned as he said that she had a heart condition and hadn't taken her medication.

Using Arabic himself he said, "Why did you not let her condition claim her?"

Many woman had 'pleased' Kasim in the past, but he had killed them without preamble when they would have been much less trouble to keep...so why this one, the wife of the man with whom Samia had betrayed him.

*****

Rose wasnt sure what Kasim said to Farik, but she could hazard a guess and she pursed her lips and looked down at the floor to avoid looking at someone the wrong way...

She listened as Kasim explained about her heart and yet again wondered why he hadnt just let her die...surely it would have been easier for him in the long run.

Kasim shifted, a little uneasy... his own reasoning seemed flimsy even to him... still, he answered nonetheless, still in Arabic, still as certain as he could sound.

"Her death on your estate, Farik? No... If she outlives her usefulness I will take her out into the desert with the others." He glanced at Rose, and then finished "For now, my... intuition tells me that it is not yet her time. And so she lives."

He took a breath then, and in English made his suggestion, "I thought perhaps your wife might appreciate another pair of female hands."

Farik nodded at his second's explanation, but frowned when he suggested Basha'ir might appreciate another pair of female hands.

His eyes turned to the woman as he said, also switching to English,

"How can I be sure that she would not make an attempt on my wife's life...as she did mine...?"

Before Kasim could reply, Rose lifted her head.

"I wouldn't try to kill an innocent woman...I wouldn't have tried to kill you if I had known what my insect of a husband had been up to...I'm hardly a trained assassin am I..."

Kasim couldn't help but find amusement in her words, and looked down at his feet for a moment to try and hide the smile that threatened to find its way to his face.

"Farik," he said softly, "Leave be, hmm? Mrs bin Safwan will be safe in her company." He turned his eyes meaningfully up at Rose, viewing her across Farik's arm, his expression warning her that nothing Farik could do to her would equal his displeasure if anything happened to Farik's wife. "You have my word."

Rose regarded Kasim as he spoke, not missing the warning in his eyes and she forced a smile at him, making it too sweet to be real.

"I wont hurt her..." she said, looking to Farik, doubting he would believe her.

Reaching out, Farik wrapped his hand in Rose's hair and tipped her head back.

"Do so and I care not whether you please Kasim...you will die instantly...by my hand, do I make myself clear?"

When Rose nodded he looked at her glossy auburn hair, wrapped around his hand as it was and he said,

"Tonight, honor your man by covering yourself from other men's eyes...and...behave yourself...I do not wish to hear of you unless it is favorable news..."

As Farik's hand reached out to Rose, something snapped inside of Kasim, and it was all he could do not to reach forward and grasp his leader's arm. His feet shifted in a half step that brought him closer to the two before he knew what he was doing, and he had to cover his near mistake by seemingly moving in protection of his boss.

He wanted to speak, but wasn't quite sure in that moment what he could say to divert what he sensed was Farik's rising ire, and risking much, he did reach out and put a hand to Farik's arm.

"Farik," he said softly, "There are many things that still require our attention."

Farik stared at Rose for a moment longer until Kasim's words and the touch of his hand on his arm had him release the woman's hair and he pushed her lightly away from him so that her back pressed against the side of the SUV.

He nodded at Kasim and turned toward the house.

Speaking to another servant who stood on standby he said, "Show the woman to my wife..."

*****

Rose glanced at Kasim, biting her bottom lip as she followed the servant toward the villa for some reason feeling unsafe now that she was leaving his side.
