Kasim walked at Farik's side, trying very hard not to look back at Rose, trusting that she would heed the warnings; hoping that she would do as Farik had commanded... He had seen women in the wake of Farik's anger - it was not something even he... the Wolf... wanted for Rose. He swallowed down his concern, and turned his mind to the business at hand. "I am... troubled, Farik." he said honestly... and when Farik turned a glance his way he said, "To have invited al-Samiiri... is that wise?" |

"Probably not," Farik agreed, then added, "...but I have been out of the loop for some time now my friend and he could prove useful...we could get some useful information from him if we play him just right..." |

"You think you can play him?" Kasim asked, unable to keep the surprise from his voice. "How? There are some people calling him the next Prophet - he seems to anticipate every move..." He looked over at Farik then, to add seriously, "I don't believe a word of that - Farik, but I do know one thing. He hates you. He always has." Kasim fell silent then, pausing in his step to allow Farik to enter the villa ahead of him. He should know how much al-Samiiri hated Farik... he used to work under his direction... until the accident - until Faris al-Farik had saved him when no other man would touch him. |

Farik entered the villa and waited for Kasim to draw level with him again before he placed a hand on his friends' shoulder. "A man such as al-Samiiri is his own worst enemy. He is unable to keep himself from gloating, from letting me know exactly how things are going for him and in doing so he will unwittingly make we aware of his weaknesses. I do not worry for myself this night my friend...but I urge you to be cautious. I do not think the man has quite gotten over your switch in allegiance just yet..." |

Kasim turned a little Farik's way as the man put his hand on his shoulder, and listened to his words. "Don't worry for me, Farik," he said quietly, dangerously. "I am certain you're right - that he has not forgiven my change in allegiance, but he cannot yet see that loyalty works both ways..." He sighed softly. "What would you have me do with the support that he will no doubt bring with him?" |

"Allow them to do as they please...within reason...let them think we are not concerned, but watch them, closely...and if you havent already, I want someone dedicated to my wife's protection...but give her room to breathe, I want to see how she performs this evening.." Kasim raised an eyebrow at Farik's words. "You doubt her?" He added, after a moment "I have assigned Rashad to her protection," he told Farik. Then thinking about his former compatriots, he said, "Given a free run of the function they will likely attempt to gather intel about your operations, search for and then exploit any weakness they find. In some ways, giving them a free rein might well be a way to identify those weaknesses ourselves and... eliminate them." |

"Exactly my friend...and no...I do not doubt Basha'ir, I merely want to see how she fares at such an event. She is innocent of many things and I want to see how quickly she can learn what it means to be my wife...to cope with the life I lead." He removed his hand from Kasim's shoulder and said, "Keep watch on your English whore too...I do not want her trying to convince someone to help her get away." |

Kasim began to nod his understanding of what Farik was saying about his new wife, but then Farik went on to speak of Rose, and unexpectedly, and unexplained, a part of him bristled, and with a breath he stiffened. He was uncomfortable with the feeling, as to why he should object to what was... essentially the truth... and trying to give himself time to recover, to find his balance again, he asked. "For your sake, Farik, I trust that your wife is everything you hope and believe her to be," he said, then asked, "What will you do, however, if not? As for the English-woman, she... will behave, I am certain of it. She will not disappoint you." She has not yet disappointed me The thought came unbidden, and he felt a frisson of a familiar and welcome stirring deep in his loins. |

"If Basha'ir lets me down..." Farik paused, the thought seeming ridiculous, "...then she will join your other whores in the desert." He felt his stomach turn at the idea and then nodded as Kasim made assurances about Edwards' widow. Sighing he said, "Come...let us take a cursory walk around." |

Kasim felt somewhat guilty for having upset Farik. The man meant a lot to him - had saved his life... had been a brother to him when no other person would. "I do not mean to make you question, ya achi," he said softly, then fell into step with the man. Changing the subject he said, "I noticed what I thought was a weak point on the eastern perimiter as we were driving in. Perhaps we should start there." |

"No need to apologize my friend," Farik said, then nodded to Kasim's suggestion of where they should start. |
