As the servant placed the bag down and left the room, closing the door behind him, Basha'ir let out a trembling breath, and looked around the room, her hands travelling to the front of her abaya to unfasten the top few buttons. Her hands shook, and for a moment she clasped them to try and stop the shaking... and swallowed hard before setting about unpacking the few belongings they had brought with them - most importantly Farik's suit, and the dress she had selected to wear at the function, and hanging them to drop out any creases... Then she set about preparing the rest of the room - moving cushions, turning down comforters... drawing the curtains and turning on the fan... so much to do... so mundane, and all the while the sight of the king sized bed in the corner of her eye, taunting her with the confusion it represented. "...only for me..." The memory of the dangerous tone in Farik's voice and his savagery in those moments caught her breath with he memory of an almost physical pain, and she couldn't help but gasp, and turn to sit on the side of the bed - the events of the last few days suddenly starting to catch up to her she covered her face with her hands and tried not to cry the tears that were already spilling onto her cheeks. She didn't even know why she was crying - she was not, in truth, unhappy - and while Farik had been exacting, but for a few isolated moments he had not been unkind - or an inconsiderate lover... she just felt her age and inexperience in those moments alone. She jumped at the sound of a knock on the door, and hurriedly wiped her face on the sleeve of her abaya, calling out in Arabic, "One moment..." while she tried to compose herself... "Yes?" The door opened, and beyond the obvious bodyguard who held open the door, stood a servant, and beside him, an auburn haired woman. "Your husband bid me show her to you company," the servant said. Absently, Basha'ir gestured for the woman to come inside, thanking the man, and nodding to the bodyguard, who closed the door behind the obviously foreign woman. |

Rose wasnt quite sure what to say to the woman who was Farik's wife...and who had so obviously been recently crying. She didnt think that "Hi, I'm the woman who tried to kill your man yesterday," was wholly appropriate and so she cleared her throat and offered. "I'm Rose Edwards...I'm to help you in any way I can..." |

Basha'ir stood with the seeming gulf between them for a very long time after Rose spoke to her, before finally she nodded and gestured to the chair on her side of the bed. Sitting down again while the other woman crossed the room. "Let us... speak as civilised women," she said softly as she waited for Rose to sit. "I am Basha'ir Nasim al-M-- bin Safwan." She fell silent then, looking at her hands, so obviously at a loss for what to say herself. She did not miss that this was the woman that had yesterday tried to kill Saad, and now he had sent her to help. She did not understand what had come to pass, or what had changed. "My husband bid me make our rooms comfortable, but..." she waved hand that trembled slightly still, around the room, "...as you can see, the servants have done everything already. All I can do is put out what things we have brought with us... is... this the lot of a wife?" |

Rose regarded Farik's wife, who seemed a little lost in her new role. Sighing she moved a little closer and nodded, "It seems so...at least for women of your...religion. Where I come from things are very different. You must love Farik very much to put up with such...treatment..." |

Basha'ir regarded the woman as she moved closer to her, as she spoke of things being different where she comes from. She was honestly curious as to what impression Rose had of the 'treatment' she was receiving at Farik's hands. She sighed softly, "The day before yesterday," she began quietly, "I was an innocent in my father's home. Today I am... Farik's wife," she faltered with the unfamiliar name which people used to refer to her husband, "and all that this means..." She did not, however, deny that she loved him - could not, because she did, her devotion to her husband was without a doubt. "Tell me, Rose Edwards, for I am curious," she spoke gently, with open curiosity, "what is it that you believe I endure?" |

Rose frowned at the other woman. "I saw the way you were bundled in here..." she said, then thinking of the way Kasim had been with her last and of the bruises on her own cheek, she added, "...and I know what it's like...to be with one of them..." She coloured a little...trying not to envisage Kasim naked. |

Basha'ir couldn't help but blush as she thought on the previous night she had spent with Farik... then she swallowed. "He is my husband," she said softly, "And everything that I am belongs to him... willingly I have given myself to his care, to his... life." She looked down at her hands, a question hovering at the front of her mind, which she pushed away, instead asking, "With whom are you..." she hesitated as to how to describe such a relationship. "Who occupies your nights, Rose?" |

Rose pulled a face at Farik's wife's answer and then glanced away as she replied, "Your husband saw fit to give me to Kasim..." |

Basha'ir watched Rose. Her tone of distaste was unmistakable, and thinking of Kasim, she could not help but think that Rose could have had a worse fate. "You do not..." she began slowly, "...find him agreeable?" She watched Rose's reaction to her question, and the way she had worded the previous accusation 'Your husband saw fit to give me to Kasim' rekindled the question in her mind... from earlier. This time, she asked, "Tell me something: you tried to kill my husband - why?" |

Clearing her throat, Rose thought about Kasim. To look at he was most agreeable...very pleasing to the eye...but the way he had taken her last night...making her feel things she did not want to feel...using her like she was some harem trollop... "No...I do not find him agreeable..." she replied, but somehow her tone lacked the conviction it needed and then Basha'ir's next question almost floored her. She remained silent for a moment, then, thinking the woman deserved the truth she replied, "I tried to kill him because he killed my husband." |

Basha'ir gasped softly when the woman in front of her told her what Farik had done. "He... killed. your husband?" she asked, paling at the thought that her husband could have done such a thing... but then - she had felt some part of his anger... and with a breath, her voice shaking slightly as she asked. "Why...? Why did he do this?" |

Rose sat down on the end of the bed with a small thud, Johnathan's betrayal coming back to her tenfold. "He slept with Farik's wife..." she stated flatly. |

Suddenly everything made horrible, terrifying sense... "...only for me..." Basha'ir almost physically backed away from Rose even as she turned to face her. "I'm so sorry..." she said, as if it were somehow her fault. |

"It's hardly your fault," Rose replied, unbidden tears forming in her eyes and she swiped them away, angry with herself. She didnt want to be upset about what Johnathan had done, but the fact was, she loved him...still did...to a certain extent.... "I had no idea that he was cheating...came here to kill Farik because I thought he had killed Johnathan for the hell of it...turns out I was wrong..." she laughed a little though the sound held no real mirth, "...I even got to see them at it in glorious technicolor!" |

Basha'ir shivered, as she listened to Rose, put it together with everything she already knew of her husband, she came to realise more about the man with whom she was now inextricably bonded... She swallowed, then taking a huge breath, trying to steady her nerves she said, "So... we both are here because of our husbands... there is perhaps not so much different between your world and mine after all." |
