Farik stood with Kasim to one side of him and il-Samiiri and one of his men to his right, their conversation polite...too polite, an undeniable tension in the air though all present were acting too polite to point out the rather obvious elephant in the room. Taking a couple of goblets of rice wine from the tray of a passing servant, he handed one to his guest. "'Afwan," he said, raising his own goblet, his eyes catching sight of Basha'ir as she began to make her way toward him and his eyes assessed her, her beauty lighting the room and he found his breath catching as she neared, her eyes on his, Rashad tailing her at a respectable distance. As she reached them, he held out his hand to her and drew her to his side, "Gentlemen, may I introduce to you my wife..." Edited by Faris al-Farik, May 20 2012, 06:32 PM.

Basha'ir took a deep breath as she began to cross the room toward Farik, undeniably handsome in his formal suit, and for a moment she paused a half step to be sure that she was properly arranged. The fabric of the sheer, deep blue, gold threaded abaya swirled around her arms and legs as she moved, and was the perfect complement to the lighter blue of the sirwal and ankle long matching dress. Her long hair was braided, and sat hidden beneath the blue and gold hijab. She was perfectly covered, yet at the same time a perfect reminder of Farik's fortunate blessing to be the one to posses her. As she approached, her eyes took in Farik's companions, saw through their polite veneer and fought not to shiver at the cold threat she could not help but feel emanating from them, and was much relieved when Farik held out his hand to her. She slipped her fingers into his, her hands in part covered by the anchoring threads of the abaya, criss crossed over the back of her hand and threaded between her fingers. "Gentlemen, may I introduce to you my wife..." Farik tucked her into his side as he spoke, his arm around her waist, and as she should, waited for the men to speak first. "As'salaamu alaikhum," il-Samiiri's voice was like oil on water, and he held out his hand in her direction. A test... Determined not to let Farik down, to show him up, she nodded her head to to the other man and answered quietly, "Alaikhum as'salaam." Pointedly, she kept her hand in contact with her husband's arm. After only a moment longer, il-Samiiri lowered his hand, and with a nod of his own head, said, "Forgive me. I have spent so long in the company of faithless women, I though--" he stopped himself. "Ma'alish, I forgot what it means to be in the company of such a woman as your wife." Though he spoke to Farik, his eyes never left Basha'ir, as if - looking long enough - he could see through the layers shrouding her body. |

Rose had waited in the room she had been shown to after leaving Basha'ir for some time before she realised that Kasim was obviously not going to come for her and her guess had been proved correct when a knock came and one of his men had ushered her out, telling her he had ordered she be brought to him. As she followed the burly man down the marble steps that led into the room where the function was being held, she adjusted the diaphanous pale grey veil that covered her hair and her nose and mouth; though they could be seen quite clearly if someone chose to stand close enough. The gown she wore was high necked and long sleeved in two shades of grey with burgandy and white embroidery around the waist, between her breasts and the neckline. She had applied some kohl around her eyes and felt entirely unlike herself. She blew out a breath and the veil fluttered away from her mouth and she had to remind herself not to do that in public. When they reached the bottom of the steps, the man who had led her there, indicated she move into the room whilst he peeled off to go another way and she looked around her nervously at all the dark, dangerous men that surrounded her in various robes and suits. Her eyes sought Kasim, but being so short she could not see him above the many heads and she began to get nervous when too many male eyes began to look her way. |

Movement in the doorway made Kasim turn on instinct... at first he could see nothing but a 'wave' moving through the room, unsettling the tension that had settled around the many subordinates to both Farik and il-Samiiri, and for a moment he could not understand its source. Then he spotted her. For a moment the world receded around him, leaving only him in the room - that suddenly expanded and left only he and Rose in the room. His English Rose had become a dark, mysterious beauty. He couldn't breathe, and everything he was gathered for a moment in that spot deep within his loins. The breath hissed out of him, and he leaned closer to Farik for a moment to excuse himself, before making his way toward Rose, moving the circling hyenas away from where she stood; reached out her away. "Come," he said, his voice soft but firm. "Walk with me, ya 'Abal..." |

Rose found herself breathing a soft sigh of relief when Kasim appeared at her side and she let him lead her away from the group of men who had been inching closer. "I never thought i'd say I was glad to see you...but...am I glad to see you..." she said, her eyes taking in his appearance and it struck her how good looking he was...though of course she had already known that deep down. "So am I covered up enough for you?" she asked, trying to think of something other than the way he looked. |

"Forgive me. I have spent so long in the company of faithless women, I though--" il-Samiiri's stopped himself. "Ma'alish, I forgot what it means to be in the company of such a woman as your wife." Farik kept a careful smile playing upon his lips as he observed the way his enemy's eyes did not leave his wife's, his expression not betraying any of the murderous thoughts that were swirling around in his mind. Basha'ir had responded as he had expected she would, refusing to take the other man's hand and keeping her own touching him instead and this pleased him for he could see that il-Samiiri was envious of her beauty. Farik nodded at his enemy. "No offence taken," he said, his voice smooth, "....but I would excuse us for a moment whilst I see to refreshments for my wife..." Il-Samiir nodded and bowed once to Basha'ir, "Fursa Sa'eeda," he said, his eyes lingering on her a moment to long again and Farik placed his hand low on her back and steered her away from the hateful man. "You look stunning," he said to her as they moved away. |

Kasim drew her closer in to his side as he moved them past a particularly predatory group of of il-Samiiri's men... bringing her to where she might select refreshements for herself. "More than adequately," he said softly, "You have surpassed yourself, my Rose." He took a breath, and then said quietly to her, "il-Samiiri's men are dangerous - you must ensure you do not find yourself alone with them under any circumstances... do you understand?" |

Basha'ir nodded to il-Samiiri, and then left at Farik's side. "Shukran, hayati," Basha'ir answered her husband as he steered her away, staying close in on his side. "I do so for you." She looked around a little as they move, watching the interactions between the men around her, those of Farik, and those belonging to the other man "His insults are meaningless, Saad, you know that? But why did he tell his companion to wait?" She had not missed the way il-Samiiri had made a gesture with his hand as Farik had turned away - 'wait' it said, and she did not understand for what the man had to wait. |

Farik allowed himself a smile of satisfaction when she intimated that she had dressed so for him and his hand subtly caressed her back where his hand touched. He frowned slightly when she said that il-Samiiri had indicated for his man to wait...that meant that they were planning something, but what? Not wanting her to worry he said, "Perhaps he was waiting for his host to move away properly before they move to mingle...I am sure it is nothing habibti..." They reached the refreshment table and he looked upon the fine spread before them. "Would you like something to eat?" he asked, his eyes catching sight of Kasim with his English woman on the opposite side of the table, but further along. Before Basha'ir could answer his first question he asked, "The English woman...did she do as you bid? You didnt feel any threat from her?" he wanted to make sure she felt happy with the arrangement Kasim had suggested. |

Rose couldnt explain the flutter in her stomach when Kasim told her she had surpassed herself and then called her his Rose again. She knew she should hate the assumption, but she did not. As they reached the refreshment table, she shivered a little when he said, "il-Samiiri's men are dangerous - you must ensure you do not find yourself alone with them under any circumstances...do you understand?" "After last night I understand all too well," she said, then swallowed, not wanting to annoy him and so added, "...sorry..." |

Kasim growled softly, and tightened his arm around her as she spoke - and was about to respond, when she apologised. "I... deserved that, I suppose," he murmured, then nodded toward the refreshments. "Eat. I do not want you to become ill." He glanced around the room for a time, watching the way the men were moving in an out of each other in some kind of intricate dance. "I will have to work the room, but if you wish to stay near to me..." he did not finish the sentence, knowing he would be less than pleased if anything wrong happened. |

Basha'ir laid her hand dead center in his chest as she looked up at him and answered, "Yes, my husband. She did everything I asked of her." She took a breath then - she had promised she would not like to him, and she would not. "She does not seem happy to be in her situation, but..." she shrugged a little, not that she was uncaring or inconsiderate - in fact compassion was strong in her heart, but still, she finished, "...women of her kind often do not understand the way things should be. I am certain Kasim can teach her of the remaining errors in her thinking." She shrugged again. "Saad, this man does not like you, does he?" |

Rose ate a few things from the table when he said he didn't want her to get ill, carefully lifting her veil each time she took a bite, watching as Kasim's eyes darted around the room as he waited by her side. Eventually he said, "I will have to work the room, but if you wish to stay near to me..." She raised an eyebrow at him and said, "Shouldn't the question be do you wish me to stay near you?" |

Farik listened as she answered him with regard to the English woman and he nodded, glancing at Kasim, knowing if anyone could tame the woman it would be him...or she would suffer the same fate as his other women as his friend had said. Basha'ir's next question had his eyes returning to her. "Saad, this man does not like you, does he?" Seeing no reason to lie to her he replied, "No, he does not...but it is to my advantage to have him here, so please, do not concern yourself with him further." He looked around the room, narrowing his eyes as il-Samiir's men seemed to be sticking to their own groups and not mingling as his other guests were. "I would prefer it if you stay close to me...or Rashad...if for any reason either of us have to leave your side then you should return to our room...these men are not...honorable...do you understand?" |

Kasim looked down at her, tempted to say something about her antagonism, but at that time he notice Hakad, and old partner of his, the scar on 'Kad's face standing out more livid than ever. Kasim reached out and hooked Rose's arm, drawing her closer. "Yes," he told her earnestly. "I want you to stay close... Rose. Obey me in this. Stay close." |
