Kasim frowned at the sudden change in Rose's demeanor, and a warrior's intuition sent a chill running along his spine. First he glanced around to see if he could spot where Farik was in the room, and having located him - deciding for the moment that the trailing bodyguard he had assigned to Farik's wife was probably more than enough support than Farik needed with the men he was talking with, he turned back and nodded to Rose. Then he took her arm and began to almost forcibly march her toward the nearby conservatory door. Once through, he slid it closed behind them, and without waiting for a moment demanded: "Tell me!" |

Basha'ir blushed, and nodded to the man that her husband had introduced so warmly. "You honour me with too much credit, Sayiidi," she said quietly. "I did... and do, only my duty, as any other woman of Islam would gladly have done. She turned a smile Farik's way then and added, "Though, like you, I praise God for his health and happiness. For he makes my life a brighter place, al Hamdu le..." |

"Ahh you have yourself a good woman here..." Imad said, patting Farik's shoulder. "I am glad you agree," Farik replied good naturedly, his smile fading a little when, across the room, he saw Kasim all but marching Rose Edwards towards the conservatory and he wondered what she had done. Hoping his Second dealt with her quietly and without fuss, he turned back to the more friendly of his guests, settling into polite conversation with them and Basha'ir. |

"Tell me!" Rose rubbed at her upper arm as he released her and she swallowed a little at the annoyance she saw in his eyes. "When I went to the powder room, I overheard two men...one being the one with the scars...they are planning to kill you and then your other men and then finally Farik. They said twenty minutes, but I'm guessing that's more like fifteen now..." She had no idea if he would believe her or not and she began to get a little worried as to what would happen if he didnt. |

Kasim regarded her for a very long time, in his mind running through all the possibilities: that she was lying - that should could have misinterpreted what was being said - anything to make himself believe that what he had feared would happen, was not coming to pass. In the end he cursed himself... he should have seen the signs... the way il-Samiiri's men had been keeping themselves to themselves. "You are certain of this?" he asked her quietly. "Of what you heard." ** ** ** Sa'ib stormed out into the lobby - where four of his subordinates, were apparently casually lounging with drinks in their hands and canape's in their belly. "No more time," he snapped. "We are done waiting!" |

"Yes," Rose replied, "...he said something about one of them wanting to punish you for your betrayal of allegiance, that they had to hang on a little while to lull you into a false sense of security, that once you were out of the way the others would be easy to get rid of and then they would have a clear run at Farik." ****** Sa'ib's men straightened, throwing their cups into nearby plants and reaching for their weapons to ready them as he said that they were done waiting. "Remember, Kasim first...quietly as possible..." |

"Damn it!" Kasim swore softly, and reached into his back pocket for a cell phone... quickly calling up a pre-programmed text message - which he hit the send button, immediately informing Farik of trouble from il-Samiiri's men. Then he reached into his inside pocket and pulled out a hand gun... flicking off the safety, and pulling back the slide to load a round into the chamber. "Do you remember the way back to my room?" he asked Rose urgently, wanting her out of the way when the bullets started flying - if they did. |

"Yes...I think so..." Rose replied, fear gripping her as Kasim readied his gun. For some reason she wanted to tell him to be careful...it seemed a ridiculous thought to have, but then again she realised that she did not want to see him hurt...or dead. She frowned, wanting to slap herself upside the head. What on earth was wrong with her? |

Farik felt his cell phone buzz in his pocket and as discreetly as he could, he lifted it out and checked the message. It was the pre-programmed warning from Kasim...the one they had hoped not to have to use. Without wanting to alarm anyone, he placed a hand on the small of Basha'ir's back and indicating to Imad with his eyes to give them a second, he whispered close to her ear. "I need you to take Rashad and go to our room...please don't ask any questions now, just do as I ask..." |

"Go there," Kasim ordered her, "As quickly and quietly as you can. Lock the door - and do not open the door for anyone but me. Fahma?" Kasim took her arm in his free hand and started to lead her out of the conservatory toward the stairs. ** ** ** Duqaq snarled softly to himself. He hated Farik... hated everything the man had - that he did not... everything he had /taken/ from him all those long years ago... well now - before he died - he would come to know what it felt like to have taken from you that which you were sure was yours. He took the stairs two at a time - leading his two companions with him. |

Basha'ir frowned, but it was one of worry, and taking a breath she nodded to Farik. "Aiwa, my husband," she said softly, and suddenly fearing for him, she squeezed his forearm, where best she could reach. "Please make my apologies to your friends." With that, she wasted no more time, turning away from her husband, and beginning to move toward the nearest staircase. A little space away, Rashad frowned, but swiftly followed Farik's wife, already beginning to close the distance between them. |

Rose nodded her understanding and moved with him back into the main room and towards the stairs, unable to stop herself saying quietly, "Be careful..." before she left him to dart up the stairs, holding the hem of her gown up a little so that she could move faster. *** Kasim's ex partner's fingers flexed on the handle and trigger of his gun where it rested in his pocket, his eyes darting this way and that, looking for his enemy. A flash of grey caught his eye and he saw a woman disappearing up the stairs, Kasim standing at the foot of them. "There..." he said. |

Farik nodded when Basha'ir asked him to give her apologies to their guests and he watched as she moved away, his eyes following her until Rashad caught her tail and began to follow her and then he turned to Imad, who was looking at him expectantly. "Trouble?" the other man said quietly and Farik nodded. "I'm afraid so my my friend, il Samiir...prepare yourselves just in case..." |

As soon as Kasim was certain that Rose was on her way upstairs, he turned, meaning to go and round up his loyal companions - those loyal to Farik, and close the enemy down before they could do any harm. As he turned he spotted Sa'ib coming his way - the man's expression was pure hate... Murder. ** ** ** Sa'ib cursed, as Kasim turned his way a moment too soon. A moment later and he would have been right behind the man, the gun in his pocket would have been ready, and Kasim would have been without his head. As it was he had to make the best of a bad situation, and pulled the gun from his pocket, drawing back the hammer - ready to fire at point blank range. |

Basha'ir tried not to hurry up the stairs so much that she would trip, already noticing that Rashad was catching up to her. Her heart pounded in her chest, and she could not help but worry for Farik - almost paused and turned around the head back downstairs to be with him. With a breath she forced herself to go on. As she reached the top of the stairs, meaning to turn and ask Rashad to go back down to Farik, that she would be fine to reach their rooms from there, a blur of motion to her side caught her attention, and she barely had time to yelp before hands closed around her upper arm, and a hand clamped across her mouth... her feet were lifted from the ground and she was traveling... travelling toward the nearest of the rooms off the hallway. ** ** ** Rashad heard the slight yelp, and began to take the rest of the stairs two at a time, cresting them in time to see a man carrying the struggling woman toward one of the upstairs rooms. He pulled out his gun... silenced... and without a thought to the worry of hitting Basha'ir instead of his target, fired off a couple of rounds... but the man was faster, and ducked aside. Rashad's shots went wide. He didn't get a chance to take a second attempt. Pain exploded against his face as the butt of a pistol hit his temple... and he toppled backwards - only stunned at first, but by the time he reached the foot of the stairs, unconsciousness had claimed him. |
