The relief that Farik felt when Basha'ir moved ever so slightly was almost tangible, but he refused to let his emotions show.

Putting the safety on his gun he slipped it back into its holster at his leg and then moved closer to Basha'ir.

"Hayati...I'm going to take you home..." he told her, his tone hushed as though it was Asma that he spoke to.

Reaching up he released one of her bloodied wrists, catching her as she sagged and he nodded to Kasim so that he would free her other hand.

Kasim took out his knife, and flicked the blade open, cutting the leather that held Basha'ir aloft, then stepped back only slightly as she all but fell into Farik's arms.

He let out a soft string of Arabic, a prayer for strength... to get her through what they must do to get her home...

As she fell against Farik... heard his voice, Basha'ir sobbed weakly... her mind barely able to sort impressions from the fire of agony that coursed through her body...

She barely whispered, "Saad...?"

"I am here..." Farik replied, fighting hard to keep his voice level and he pressed a kiss to her temple.

Her blood coated his hands as he moved them over her to get the best hold on her to swing her up into his arms and he grit his teeth as he could only imagine what injuries she had sustained...the blood on her thighs not escaping his notice.

He knew that she was in pain and wondered perhaps if it would be better if she were unconscious, to spare her from the agonies that transporting her home would undoubtedly bring her.

Biting back on his anger at Mahir and for the Americans who had started this, he looked to Kasim.

"Let's get out of here..."

Kasim swallowed hard as he stopped Farik.

"The tracker," he said, his voice full of regret. "If we don't get it out, we'll just bring them down on our heads - and land us all - Basha'ir included right back in this hell..."

He took a breath. "If you can't do it, I--" he took another breath. "I will try..."

As if to prove his point, he took the detector from his pocket, and moved it closer to Basha'ir as Farik held her in his arms... the small machine emitted a high pitched sound as he brought it close to the apex of her leg.

The sound of the detector roused Basha'ir, seeming to alarm her, and her trembling increased slightly...

"No more... please...." she whispered, as if expecting the terrible current to go through her again... memories coming thick and fast. "I can't-- I won't--"

Her voice cracked and she took a sobbing breath, and tried to wrap her arms around herself, around her belly - why did she hurt so bad inside?

Farik stopped as Kasim reminded him of the tracker and he cursed, his mind all over the place.

He held Basha'ir more tightly as his friend held the detector close to his wife and the alarm sounded to signify the presence of another device and he closed his eyes as she moaned with distress and tried to wrap her arms around herself.

"My love...one more thing and then we are on our way home, I promise you..."

There was a low cot nearby, probably where her torturer had been resting and though he was loath to lie her on there he did so and knelt beside her.

"I will do it..." he told Kasim.

Basha'ir whimpered as Farik set her down, half reaching for him - his voice familiar, his scent...

"H...home..." she half sobbed, only part aware of anything any more. Could he really be there...? Was it all some fevered dream. Had she finally come unhinged with all the torture and pain...?

Kasim nodded, still at Farik's side, and as he handed the knife, and the detector down to his brother, he checked his watch.

"Two minutes, ten," he warned softly. Not wanting to rush Farik, but he wanted them clear when the missile came. That she was still alive was a miracle... he wanted her to stay that way.

Farik took the knife and detector from Kasim and moved the slip that Basha'ir wore a little higher on her thighs, the blood there making him frown again, but though he wanted to know the cause, he knew time was not on their side.

Moving the device over her, he located the tracker and then positioned the knife, the thought of cutting her soft skin making his stomach churn.

"Forgive me..." he murmured and then proceeded to do what he must.

Basha'ir's confused mind could not comprehend the sound of her husbands voice asking for her forgiveness, and then she felt the sharp pressure... the cold of steel pressing against her thigh, and she could not help the soft cry that left her lips, but the cry was nothing compared to those the dark man had forced from her lips... and in truth, the sharpness of the blade minimised the pain. Only when the knife's tip caught behind something lodged within her skin, and began to pull did the pain increase, and she tried - weakly - to fight... to struggle - the push as the figure she could feel but could not see..

As Basha'ir started to struggle, Kasim crouched on his haunches and caught the arm she tried to push against Farik with, fearing she might accidentally make him catch a vital blood vessel or nerve. He kept his eyes averted as best he could, and tried to be gentle in holding her still...

Farik worked as quickly and gently as he could, Basha'ir's soft whimpers and attempts at trying to move almost breaking his heart and he was grateful when Kasim caught her arm to try to keep her still.

Finding the tracker he worked it free and dropped it to the floor, crushing it with his heel.

"Okay...it's done..." he said, nodding to Kasim. "How long have we got?"

Kasim glanced at his watch as he released Basha'ir.

"One minute, forty-five," he said, shaking his head. "We've gotta move. Now!"

Farik nodded and despite knowing that handling Basha'ir roughly was not going to be easy on her, he scooped her back up into his arms and followed Kasim up the stairs and to the exit.

Bolting through the door they ran toward the cars and he prayed that they would get clear in time.
