Battle Royale RPG - Suggestions

I open this thread to argue about what we want for the next update of the game. Of course there will be only advice for the Gamemaker Papasan96 so he can use some ideas to improve the game later. I will inaugurate the topic! ^^

Achievements

Yours is a really great idea. But I think that something is missing... a reward. Yes, you have allies, but what about make the things more... attractive? First I think you should add more achievements (I suggest "Run from 1/2/5 people" ; "Kill 1/2/5 people" ; "Kill X with Y in Z time" ; "Use 10 breads" ; "Betray 1/2/3 allies" etc.) and change the main ones (the rescues, the way you end the game that are one character's own) for every character (for example add an Achievement for when Shinji saves Seto or Keita) .
Here some "bonus" given by the achievements for me

Dangerous: Kill 1 student - Strenght + 5
Murderer: Kill 2 students - Strenght + 10
Serial killer: Kill 5 students - Strenght + 15
Nemesis: Kill 10 students - Strenght + 20

Don't want to fight: Run from 1 student - Speed + 5
Coward: Run from 2 students - Speed + 10
Runner: Run from 5 students - Speed + 15
Flash: Run from 10 students - Speed + 20

Betrayer: Betray 1 student - Knife
Treacherous: Betray 2 students - Another Knife (stronger)
Infamous: Betray 3 students - Another Knife (strongest)

Etc.

Equipment changes

I think you should add more gears in general and second to make some gears appear at X Day Y hour so the player can't obtain everything in like two-three in-game hours from the start. Maybe do something like the rpg job but very elementary (like items that can be used only by certain characters or only female/male) . Also, in my opinion is good that every day all the students who survived gets new gears or/and better stats (the ones that aren't in the party) so the game is more difficult.
For the new gears, I think you can add some "special" weapons and armors that aren't really realistic but can be used only if some conditions are met. Chainsaw, Retractable Blades, Bazooka, Carbon Armor etc. These will be the strongest gear but very hard to find.

Thanks for the suggestions! I hope more people post here and give me some ideas! Although feature creep is a sure-fire way to prevent a game from being finished, so if I add any major changes it would probably be after I've finished he main game for all five characters.

The main reason I did achievements in the first place was to give the player some sort of idea of which characters could be saved. I like some of your ideas though, so I might well add a few extra achievements. Some of them might be too difficult or troublesome to implement, but I'll have a look.

As for the idea of bonuses for getting achievements...There is, actually, for Mitsuko. But I haven't done her story yet so you'll have to wait and see what it is :D Apart from that, there's two difficulties I can see:

The first is simply some of them will be a lot of work to do. For example, in the maker I use there's no easy way to count number of times a player escapes from battle. I like the idea of that as an achievement, but I'm not sure whether I'll actually be able to do it.

Secondly, since the idea of the achievements is that they carry over from one game to the next, I'm not sure how this would work with the bonuses you suggest. When you start a game with a new character, would they start with the strength/speed etc. bonuses? If so, this might make the game too easy for subsequent playthroughs.

Similarly super weapons. Battle Royale is not meant to be easy. I don't know whether you noticed the way I did the weapons and armour, but I'll explain. Each item can appear in one of two locations, or not appear at all. That means in some games there will be more weapons available then others.

I like the idea of surviving students getting stronger each day. Again, it's quite a lot of work but it's something I might try later. Also restricting weapons and armour to certain characters is easy enough, but on what basis should I do it? I mean, why would one character be able to use a knife and another not? If you can think of a good explanation or way to do it then I'll give it a try though.

It's me again! Today at school I was thinking about BR RPG. You said before that you have in mind something like the chance to make a own character and put him in the program. Yes, for me it's a good idea but it's also very hard because a game with more freedom have more bugs too (like Skyrim) . So I was thinking: what about making a VERY story mode? The story mode in my mind is oriented or on Shuya or on every character but I will talk later about this. The gameplay is a bit different from your version (maybe less complicated...) , here the difference

1) The time doesn't go on unless you: train yourself, move by X areas or talk with other students o
- Training: it's a way to increase the statistics of the trained character. Basically it's a voice in the menu (like items, save etc.) when you can choose the statistic to increase
- Move by X areas: you can move in other areas but these ones are limited to a number, so you can't find everything in a few minutes
- Talking: you choose a character in your party and you talk with him unlocking new skills (in your RPG a student can use only a skill as support and one as a active member)
2) The fights.
The fights that will happen are only those who exist in the story, but will be VERY HARD because there aren't many (in this case I think is better to make a TOTALLY story mode where you can do the fights of all students, like Shiji vs Keita or Sugimura vs Kiriyama... obviously you have to win even if after the battle you lose... this make the things harder and longer) . The fights happens at a certain time like the events and you will be moved to the area even if you're at the other side of the map. Of course it's not realistic but I think is a way to do this story mode (if you want) that I would like very much.

I have other ideas to share but I will wait your opinion about these ones.

Wow, you have been thinking deeply about this! Your idea kind of sounds like one of those visual novel/time management type games. I don't know what the correct term is, but they're quite popular in Japan (I remember a while back a snes one about female wrestling). It's a nice idea that fits in with Battle Royale, but it's so different from what I'm trying to do that I'm not even sure if the program I use would be appropriate. Sure, you could do it but it's basically a completely new and different game.

If you're interested in developing your idea you're welcome to use any graphic or sound resources from my game. The program I use (rpgmaker XP) is really easy to learn, although you can only use it for 30 days for free before you have to buy a license. As I said though, there are probably other game-making programs that are more suited for that style of game.

Anyway, I don't really have any serious plans of making customisable characters. Maybe one day, when everything else is finished. I'm kind of interested in trying something like that.

Btw, I was playing DayZ today (do you know it? it's still in Beta but it's a first person zombie survival game) and thinking how amazing it would be to have a BR version...It will never happen though :(

Unfortunately I'm not very good with the RPG Maker (I tried to make something times ago but... nothing) so I can't do a game on my own (otherwise I can be a kind of adviser) . The story mode is like you describe it but unlike the vision novel, here we have lots of fights (almost every fight in the game... I think is better to take the manga version for this one because there are more "anime style" fights) and of course lots of scenes. As I said I'm not an expert of RPG Maker, I just played... 3 games made by this program including BR RPG. So I think is better if you can ask (if you are interested) to someone who knows RPG Maker better then me if is possible to add a timer that go on if the player change area or do some actions on the menu (Training/Talking) . If you want I can help you with the less technical things like the fights, the skills etc.

Talking about the real BR RPG, I was thinking about the Achievements. There is one Achievement that the player unlock when he finish the game in the "canon way". All we know the Shuya's one, but the others? Shinji's canon ending is... death. So I was thinking about an ending that would fit the other characters. We have: escape by boat, killing the soldiers, make a bomb and become the victor of the Program. So:

- Shinji: I was think that the bomb is the more realistic since It was his own plan.
- Sugimura: The escape by boat for me is the only thing that fit the character. Obviously with his lover :3
- Kiriyama: Killing everybody, become the victor. Long story short. Yes, Kiriyama is the perfect neutral character so I was thinking... What about make him with TWO canon ending? The students' slaughter if he decides to be evil and the soldiers' slaughter if he decides to be good (for the coin trow)
- Mitsuko: I have to think more about her...

I got the point, but the canon ending is only for Shuya/Noriko... Yes is the ending of the film but I think that the point of the rpg is to make the story of the characters of BR. Maybe I'm wrong^^
