Welcome to Bio-tech. The first thing I would like to address is that Rose and I have participated in 3 other RPG sites and have formed our own based off of the failures of those we have seen. One major contributor to the fail of many RP sites is unhappy users. Both Rose and Myself have agreed that we want Bio-Tech to be as little like a dictatorship as possible. We don't have any out of the ordinary guidelines and we would like our users to respect our site because we will respect you in return. Our rules are simple: First: No Unreasonable Power Playing. It is one thing for a character to assume a movement of another character (I.E. Presty is watching Rose Run. I may assume in my post that Rose is still running when I post) Unreasonable Power Playing occurs when a user makes someone else's character do something they wouldn't normally do. Use proper judgment though. Power Playing is aloud when a user gives another user permission to do so. Keep that in mind as well. Second: No One liners. Everyone is capable of posting more than one line. An exception is dialogue though. If a conversation is occurring, one liners can be tolerated. But regardless, even in a conversation, people move, think, etc. Also, please no double posting out of OoC boards. That can be considered spamming because it counts towards your post count. If you forgot to say something in your first post, just hit edit and add it in. In addition, do not use excessive punctuation. It creates a sense of urgency that is often unnecessary. One question mark is plenty. Third: No Plagiarism. Give Credit where credit is due. Do not copy anyone. Write! Be creative! You can do it! Fourth: Know where you can Role Play. You common sense with this rule. Refrain from having boys enter the female wings of the school and vice versa. Although that is not a user offense, the character will be punished if he is caught by an authority character. Otherwise, do as you please in character. Also, refrain from posting in the Catacombs of the school. If you feel like a board there is necessary and you feel passionate about making use of this area, let an Admin know and we'll grant access. Fifth: No God-like Characters/Perfect Individuals. Everyone has a weakness. Everyone has fears. Be able to illustrate them in your characters. Sixth: Be Respectful to other users. We will not tolerate the racial abuse, sexual orientation slurs, or the 'C' word under any circumstances. However, this site is rated NC-17. Swearing, Violence, and sexual material is fine. Be Mature about how you illustrate sexual scenes. Seventh: Don't overload your signatures. Creativity is separate from a jumbled mess of pictures. Eighth: Be able to distinguish between yourself and your character. It's alright to have a character that is exactly like you. It is wrong for you to get upset at other users for having their characters dislike your character. I would hope that users will get along but if you have a problem, contact an Admin and we'll take care of your issue in a timely manner. Ninth: Use Common Sense/ Proper Judgment. Happy Posting. =] One other thing I would like to address is that if a user is posting what a character is thinking in 1st person, you may do one of the following to illustrate that the character is thinking. First, italicize the text to differentiate between different narrations. [[Example: Presty sat down at the computer and decided to join this awesome website. He decided that the first thing he should do would be to register a character and read the rules. As he read the rules, everything seemed pretty basic. However, the tenth rule startled him: "No Male Users Aloud." "What?" Presty said with disappointment. This site sucks. I don't want to join anyway! Prestwick then proceeded to stomp into his room and cry himself to sleep.]] Notice the last line. The words in italics illustrate thought. Italics are not restricted to differentiate between narrations though. They can be used to add emphasis as well. [[Example: Do I have to join this site?]] Second, the may illustrate thought of a character by using things called single quotes. 'This site sucks. I don't want to join anyway!' Prestwick then proceeded to stomp into his room and cry himself to sleep.]] This isn't meant to be a strict guideline but just a general rule. Simple. One other thing I would like to address is that post count doesn't matter. I don't want a competition developing about who has the most posts. What we, as writers, should be proud of is being mentioned in the "Honorable Mention" Forum. Thanks! |
