HUN VERMUNDSSON nods and heads out through the crowd.

The streets of Rohald are jammed with a disparate crowd. Merchants, farmers, hirdmen, nobles and their servants, wandering animals, carts, stalls and impromptu meetings...Hunn hast to jostle his way through and of course, it is unlikely to find anyone amongst the flood of people. What's clear to him, though, is that there's a very large number of foreign visitors, unknown to the clan or any other locals...which of course means many potential suspects.

Astrid makes her own way to the stables.

Domar heads after Hunn, knowing that while the berserker had near-celebrity status in Rohald, he was mostly a pretty face without pretty words to back it up. That was Domar's specialty.

When Astrid arrives at the stables, she sees many horses put up there, some familiar, others foreign. Then, she notices one particular horse whose gear and tack stood out. It looks like those from the horses the mercenaries had at their camp. Whoever this stranger was, they were clearly in Rohald now...

Astrid walks over to the horse, wanting a closer look but also keeping an eye out for anyone paying attention to her.

HUN VERMUNDSSON makes his way among the foreigners, looking for anyone dressed like the bandits.

Astrid is left alone by the stablehands, while the horse exhales through its nose as it looks at her, a sign of curiosity.

Meanwhile, Hunn pushes through the crowd with Domar following in his wake. Unfortunately, as the "bandits" looked like common hirdmen, there's a lot of people in this crowd that look like them.

Now, if we were going by what Ylva would be doing on instinct, it'd be telling her to go find the nearest mead-hall, gambling ring, trade square, or preferably all three, and then just mingle and get wild and see just what might spring up. Basically what it seems like Hunn and Domar just went off to do. She's not quite a super well-known face, nor an unfamiliar one, and while she may not have the prettiest words, folks seem to like her just fine. Especially once she gets a little on the rowdy side. Known of but not well-known, you know? She woulda been fine! Except tall, thick, and unarticulate was already on the job, with everyone's favorite backup. Meaning that, being as she has more than a single wit in her head, she's more or less stuck making sure the pretty princess doesn't get assassinated trying to find the assassins. Which is about the last place on earth she wants to be right now.

Close to the local royalty, she means. Because, I mean... it's a cute princess. All sheltered and sultry anyway, pretty and polite with one of those little naughty streaks you can practically just taste already. Other circumstances, other places, not-with-someone-her-family-has-bonds-to. No making magic between these two sorceresses, not if she's sober and hasn't recently taken a blow to the head at any rate. Heck, aside from that, just down-time from party-Ylva might've been a nice change of pace.

Still, with the understanding that allowing the daughter of the Jarl to die of assassination in the stables would probably go poorly for her, she trots off right after Astrid after finding herself the last one left standing there, shouting a "Hey, wait up!" as she goes that's already a little bit useless at this point, since Astrid's seemingly already there.

Astrid stops and looks around, confused until she sees Ylva coming. "Oh Ylva, it's you. I'm glad you were with us today, that was...well, I'm not really used to being in danger. I guess I've been sheltered most of the time."

The horse looks at Ylva curiously, but says nothing, as it is a horse.

"Ah, it's not so hard to get used to." Ylva comments once she's able to slow down from her jog into a quicker walk, in the stable and catching up to Astrid. She has her bow in hand, but no arrows in her hand, just sort of casually limber and ready, her attention on the area around them... and on the horses... equally as much as the princess she's speaking to. This would be a whole lot easier if she had really focused on her lessons. She's heard tales of people able to talk to animals, it sounds pretty legit. "It's basically just the same as hunting. Except the thing you're hunting is usually also hunting you, and is expecting you to be hunting them back. So really you need to leave yourself open and not actually try to do anything at all except stop the other person from getting you until the exact moment you see an opportunity to get them. Then you take it.

The stablehands politely ignore Astrid and Ylva's conversation while the horse looks on. The horse's presence in and of itself is a clue: the last member of the group encountered in the woods IS here in Rohald. Someone could watch the stable and try to confront them when they return for their horse, though that probably won't be until the festival is over.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Domar and Hunn make their way through the crowd of people in Rohald, the din of speech and laughter rising with the smoke of the fires. Soon the noise gets even louder, as people start pointing at the gate.

"Make way!"

Standing a head taller than most men in town, Hunn can see who's approaching. It's his cousin, Gudrid, the Jarl's eldest daughter and Astrid's big sister! Her husband, a noble from an allied Danish clan named Herjolf Tryggverson, is right behind her, along with a group of servants bringing up the rear. The last time Hunn remembers seeing them was when they left for Finland to run a trading post in King Halfdan's name, which is where they've likely returned from. Hunn also notices that Gudrid is obviously, heavily pregnant.

HUN VERMUNDSSON moves directly in their path, making sure cousin Gudrid can't help but walk straight to him. "Ha! No one tells HUN VERMUNDSSON to move aside! Don't you know that rather than walk, the earth moves beneath his feet to bring his destination to him?" He's sporting a huge smile, always happy to see his cousin.

Astrid strokes the horse's neck. "Well, he's here somewhere. We should find someone to watch this animal and come tell us if someone takes it."

"I'll have to remember that one," Domar comments as Hunn rushes to meet his cousin and her family. "That'd be perfect in a saga."

Gudrid embraces her cousin in a strong hug.

"Hunn, you great bear! I've missed you so much!"

Herjolf laughs and waves. "Good to see you again, HUNN VERMUNDSON!" he says.

Meanwhile, in the stable, one of the stablehands finally approaches Astrid.

"I...couldn't help but overhear, my lady. I can do that for you, if you want."

HUN VERMUNDSSON points at Herjolf. "See, he says my name right!" He claps Gudrid on the back and Herjolf on the shoulder. "I'm glad you made it, I thought that I might miss you out on the hunt, but things got...exciting."

"He's humoring you, Hunn," Domar replies, eliciting a scoff from Herjolf. Gudrid yelps a little as Hunn claps her on the back.

"Easy now! Think of the baby!" she exclaims. "What do you mean, exciting?"

"Well, that's a long saga, Lady Gudrid," Domar replies. "Come, your father and sister will want to see you immediately!"

Astrid turns, seeing the stableboy. She looks him over, lower lip caught between her teeth. In the past she might have looked for an empty stall and...no, she can't do that any more, stop thinking about it. "That would be very helpful, thank you. But don't get too close or let them see you, it might be dangerous."

The stableboy nods.

"Well, if they ask me to help 'em with their horse, I'll help 'em with their horse. But you can rely on me!" he says, giving a gap-toothed grin.

At that point, Domar appears the stable.

"Ah! Found you. Come on, your sister's returned from Finland!"
