GCW 7: NO BRAKES
LIVE FROM THE TUCKER CIVIC CENTER – TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA MONDAY – MAY 22, 2017
The show begins with Chris Callum and Aspen Chaud in the ring welcoming everyone to Tallahassee, Florida. He says that big things always go down in Tallahassee, so he knows this will be a big show, but he says that United We Stand was a huge night for Gulf Coast Wrestling. He calls out Leela Watts and Cosmo Cooper, the GCW and Legacy Champion respectively, and they make their way down to the ring arm in arm, having fun. Cosmo congratulates both wrestlers on finishing up big rivalries with big wins, and especially calls out Leela for doing something Cosmo couldn’t do – defeat Zack Burton. Cosmo rolls his eyes but Leela seems oblivious as the crowd cheers her on.
Next, Callum calls out Mariano Fernandez, the new CWC Junior Heavyweight Champion. He tells Mariano that he doesn’t get it, but that he knows now how talented Mariano is. Mariano nods and holds the belt up high. Callum announces to the crowd that Mariano will be defending the best in Denver this Saturday at the King’s Road show, and that they should all watch. He says that he will be rooting for Mariano to defeat Back Alley Steve and keep the belt in the hands of a GCW wrestler.
Finally, Callum calls down Ashley Tierney, the new CWC World Champion. The crowd hates her, and they let her know it. She doesn’t care though, soaking it all in while waving the belt around with a big smile. Callum touts Tierney’s victory as the biggest achievement in wrestling history, and there is an audible groan from the crowd. He says that there is someone in the ring who wants to apologize to Ashley, and then hands the microphone over to Aspen. She apologizes to Tierney and thanks her for bringing the title to GCW. That’s when Leela Watts decided she had enough and took the microphone.
Leela says that she is happy that GCW brought back the World Championship too, but also says that the praise for Tierney is getting out of hand. She had to CHEAT to win the belt, with brass knuckles no less. Leela thinks that Samantha Tolson deserves a rematch, and if Tierney somehow manages to retain, that she should be next in line for a shot since she is the only one to beat Tierney to this point. Mariano and Cosmo back up, deciding to leave this between the two women who are now face to face.
Tierney tells Leela that she should be thankful that Sole Survivor is coming up and that she didn’t get a chance to qualify. Tierney says that the GCW Championship is still a title that she wants and deserves, and now that she is the CWC World Champion, she could snap her fingers and Callum would be happy to book the match. Callum and Aspen both nod hesitantly when Tierney glares at them. Leela asks Ashley to come after her belt. Ashley thinks about it for a while and then decides that she is going to let Leela keep the fantasy alive for a little while longer. She waves and winks at Leela and then her music plays and she exits the ring. Leela is fuming as Tierney struts up the ramp, holding her title high. We cut to commercial break.

CAROLINE O’HARA BURCHILL vs. MYKAL BAILEY
The first match of the night also marks the debut of Caroline O’Hara Burchill, “The Killer Queen”, to Gulf Coast Wrestling. Mykal Bailey is no fan favorite, but the smug actions of Burchill quickly turn him into one. They lock up, and Burchill immediately pulls away to mock Bailey. He charges forward, running straight into a drop toehold. Burchill uses the opportunity to gloat some more, moving to the top rope and extending her arms wide as Bailey made his way to his feet. The kid from League City moved towards the top rope and grabbed Burchill by the wait, but she elbowed her way out of it and immediately jumped down to the ground and slammed her opponent by their onto the mat. Burchill waited for him to rise to his feet again before she quickly pulled him by the hair and slammed his head across her knee. She moved into the corner and charged forward once again, driving her knee into his head. She went to the audience and shouted “off with his head” after it was all done. There was something about Burchill that kept Mykal off his game for the rest of the match as she continued to pick him apart, seeming one step ahead of him at all times. The end of the match came when she connected with the “Killer Queen”, a tornado DDT, and then locked in a crossface chicken wing for the submission victory. It was an impressive victory, and she knew it. Her manager Amy Scottsfiern didn’t seem thrilled with the arrogance at ringside, but was nonetheless clapping for Burchill as she continued to celebrate.
RILEY STEVENS: “I guess the concept of winning with class doesn’t resonate with Caroline.”
OLIVER THIBODAUX: “With that kind of ass who needs class, am I right?”
WINNER: CAROLINE O’HARA BURCHILL
After the match we cut to the back where we see Zack Burton, dressed in street clothes, lumbering around the arena. He is clearly pissed off, and understandably so after the way United We Stand went down for him. Zack moves through the catering area when he passes Dominic Sapsford, who, when he sees Zack, begins to chuckle. Burton quickly spins around and comes face to face with Sapsford, but Sapsford does not back down. Burton asks what is so funny, to which Sapsford tells him it’s the way he is pouting around the arena after being embarrassed by someone half his size. Sapsford says that here in a few minutes he will qualify for the Sole Survivor match and be the one who beats Leela Watts – something Burton couldn’t do. Zack says we will see about that, and then he exits the scene. Sapsford goes to back to preparing for the match, not worried at all.

NOAH MOORE vs. TRISH NEWBORN
The next match was ready to begin with Trish Newborn ready to make her debut in GCW, but there was an unwelcomed visitor making her way to the ring. Caroline O’Hara Burchill had just finished her debut in impressive fashion, but she made her way back to the ring and planted herself in a chair at ringside. Newborn and Moore were confused about why she was out here, but when the bell rang, they focused on each other. Newborn impressed early on with a hurricanrana on Moore followed by a belly to belly suplex. She worked his arm throughout the match, and it was clearly helping her keep control. Newborn was able to get the crowd behind her after a series of big suplexes to her larger opponent, and always a big smile after each. They could tell she was happy to be here. Burchill, at ring side, rolled her eyes every time the fans cheered. Finally, Newborn set up for and connected with her finishing move, the Californian Kiss, planting Moore into the mat hard. She got the victory with that one, and as soon as her music began to play, Burchill hit the ring, carrying the chair with her. SPLAT! Newborn fell to the mat as Burchill continued to wail away on her. Burchill placed Newborn’s arm into the chair and moved to the top rope, taking a moment to gloat, but before she could jump down a group of referees removed the chair and pulled Newborn out of the ring. This brought a big smile to Burchill’s face as they helped Trish to the back. We linger on the shot for a moment before cutting to commercial.
RILEY STEVENS: “What a cowardly attack by Caroline O’Hara Burchill! It’s like winning her debut match just wasn’t enough for her – she had to ruin someone else’s night!”
OLIVER THIBODAUX: “I like it. If you want to make a statement, you’ve gotta bust some heads Riley. Miss Burchill did just that, and man, isn’t she smoking hot? I have a new favorite.”
WINNER: TRISH NEWBORN
In the back we see Jack Conway making his way to gorilla position before his match, but he runs across Christian Jones, the man he attacked on the last show. Jones asks Conway to explain himself, and Conway says he already has – he wanted to make an impact, and he knows he is better than Jones, so he proved it. Christian Jones nods for a moment while Conway looks back at him with an arrogant smile, but then he snapped and clocked Conway in the face with a big right hand. The beatdown continued until Jones had Conway up and pushed him face first into a crate full of equipment. It wasn’t done yet. Jones pulled up Conway once again and sent him through a table that was set up on the edge of the hallway. Content, Jones finally pulled back. He said, “Now we are even,” and then walked away.

DOMINIC SAPSFORD vs. GILBERT GEIGER vs. JACK CONWAY
This is the first of a series of matches which will determine the three challengers for Leela Watts’ GCW Championship in the Sole Survivor Match. Jack Conway, who was attacked by Christian Jones earlier in the night, is missing and is reported to be on his way to a local medical facility. Geiger is outmatched early on in this one by Sapsford, but he tried his best to stay alive despite being tossed around the ring. Geiger uses the outside to take a breath, but without Conway, flanking the big man is impossible. Eventually, Geiger reaches under the ring and grabs a chair, thinking it will be an equalizer in this match. He moved onto the apron and swings at Sapsford, but it is caught in by Sapsford and pulled away quickly. Geiger escapes just before the chair can come down at him, but he is furious at ringside, kicking the ring posts and ripping signs away from fans. Finally, Sapsford is tired of waiting and moves out of the ring to charge Geiger, but is then involved in a chase around the ring. Geiger rounds a corner, drops, and then drops the big man by sticking out his leg. Then it is all about doing as much damage as possible. Geiger grabs Sapsford’s head and slams it against the steps, stomps on all of his limbs, and picks at his eyes. Finally Geiger stands, proud of himself, and manages to get Sapsford into the ring. He goes for the “Toxicity”, a ripcord high knee but Sapsford holds tight and picks Geiger up for a powerslam.
BOOM! It’s Zack Burton! The former GCW Champion said he would make a statement tonight and make Dominic Sapsford look like a joke, and it seems he is going to try to make that happen now! Burton bounces off of the ropes and pounces on Sapsford, taking him down easily! Geiger falls into the corner, shocked at what is happening. Burton continues to pummel an unsuspecting Sapsford before, finally, to the shock of the crowd, he picks Sapsford up on his shoulders and connects with a running powerslam that shakes the ring. Burton looks down at an unmoving Sapsford, proud of what he has done, and then, without looking at Geiger for a second, he leaves the ring. Geiger looks around, sort of shocked but mostly thrilled with what just happened. He climbs on top of Sapsford and lifts his leg for the three count and the victory! Gilbert Geiger will be making a run for the GCW Championship at Category 5!
RILEY STEVENS: “That may not be the most convincing win, but Gilbert Geiger is in the Sole Survivor match!”
OLIVER THIBODAUX: “Who cares about convincing?! He should thank his lucky stars that Sapsford pissed off Zack Burton, but either way, Geiger is the man of the hour.”
WINNER: GILBERT GEIGER
Cutting to the back once again, we see an interview with Sean Curley, Ashe Corvin, and Trisha Reinhardt. The interviewer asks Curley first about his Sole Survivor qualifying match later in the night, to which he says, as expected, that he is going to walk out the winner. Continuing, Curley says that the way United We Stand went down was disappointing at times, but in the end, The Horsemen came together and made their presence felt in the HPW Championship match when they helped Daniel Corvin take down Wulf Erikson. Ashe Corvin takes the mic and says that what happened there is just the beginning. The Horsemen, he says, are the greatest collection of wrestlers in history because they have wrestling in their blood. They were, literally, born to do what they do. He says that in a few weeks, The Horsemen are going to become CWC Trios Champions, but tonight, it is all about taking home the CWC World Championship. Reinhardt takes the mic and rips into Tierney, talking about how much fun it will be to pull that pretty blonde hair off of her head and other violent things. She says that the real queen will show herself tonight, and it is not Ashley Tierney.

HERCULES CORTEZ vs. LIAM STARK vs. ZABRINA MONETTA
With a shot at the GCW Championship on the line, these three wrestlers begin sizing each other up in the ring. It quickly gets started when Liam Stark charges Hercules Cortez and Zabrina Monetta, still quite unsure about her wrestling ability, sinks into the corner. Liam is able to keep Cortez stuck in the corner for a while, but with one big sweep of the arm he is tossed across the ring and Cortez storms forward with a big boot followed by a two count. Monetta is horrified as Cortez makes his way towards her, grabbing her by the hair and she flails around, trying to work her way out of it, but Liam is back to his feet quicker than expect and chop blocks Cortez down to his feet. After a running dropkick to the back of the head, Stark has the big man down and he invites Monetta to join in on the attack. She moves out of the ring, but he pulls her back in. Stark is less interested in beating down Monetta, rather hoping that she comes to her senses and joins the match. He pulls Cortez up and holds him for Monetta. She gets a bit of courage and charges forward with a forearm, but Cortez soaks it up and shakes it off. He powers his way out of Stark’s clutches, tossing him across the ring and then grabs Monetta and powerslams her into the mat. 1…2…STARK breaks it up. He is clearly tired and hurt, but he managed to break up the pin just in time. Hercules toyed with him for a while before finally tossing him out of the ring.
Monetta moved forward, scuttling across the ring on her knees, and planted Cortez with a big low blow that got a huge pop from the crowd. She was pleased with herself as he dropped to his knees, trying to catch his breath. She proceeded to land a few shots on him before connecting with a somersault cutter, a move that she undoubtedly picked up from the CWC World Champion Ashley Tierney. She pulled Cortez onto his back…1….2….LIAM STARK breaks up the pin! Monetta is shocked as Stark pulls away quickly, still unwilling to hurt Monetta, but also unwilling to give up his opportunity. The two go back and forth for a bit, talking, trying to explain themselves, while Hercules slowly got to his feet. He pulled Monetta away the hair and then grabbed Stark by the throat. He had him up and military press slammed Stark out of the ring before he turned his eye to Monetta on the other side of the ring. DISCUS LARIAT! 1…2…3! Monetta is out cold in the ring as Hercules has his hand raised.
RILEY STEVENS: “Am I the only one who feels very uncomfortable with Zabrina Monetta being allowed in the ring? She looks like a deer in the headlights out there.”
OLIVER THIBODAUX: “And Cortez is the big rig that just ran her over. No Cinderella story for her tonight, and I think Hercules is gonna be the favorite in the Sole Survivor match.”
WINNER: HERCULES CORTEZ
Cosmo Cooper is making his way out of the locker room dressed for action when he comes across Trevor Miller. Once again, Trevor congratulates Cosmo on the title win at United We Stand, to which Cosmo says thank you… a bit quietly though. Trevor continues by saying that he still has a rematch clause for that belt. Terry got one, Zack got one, and now he is going to get one – and the match will be next week at GCW 8. Cosmo rolls his eyes and asks Trevor why he is doing this. He reminds Trevor that what happened at United We Stand was supposed to be the end of it all. Miller responds by saying that he isn’t going to let a title opportunity go to waste, no matter who the opponent is. Cosmo is clearly furious by now, but Trevor isn’t willing to budge. Finally, Cosmo just accepted it and stormed off. Miller was conflicted, but he had his match.

CHRISTIAN JONES vs. SEAN CURLEY vs. TRAVIS KLINE
After the commercial break we find ourselves back in the ring. The entrances take place, and then we are ready to begin. Christian Jones is double teamed early on by Curley and Travis Kline, but he is able to fight his way out and connect with a sidewalk slam on Kline for a one count. Curley enters into the fold with a swinging neckbreaker to Jones for a two count. The action is fast and furious until Kline takes control with a backbreaker to Jones followed by whipping Curley into the corner. He moves to attempt a superplex on Curley, but the action is slow enough to allow Jones to get to his feet and connect with a powerbomb on Kline that also sends Curley across the ring. Jones attempts to pin both men but ends up with two counts. During a break in the action Ashe Corvin moves onto the apron and starts smack talking Jones, but it doesn’t seem to phase him. Jones’ manager and wife, Jacky Jones quickly remedies the situation by pulling Corvin off of the apron. Jones is pleased as Corvin crashes to the floor, but Curley is able to move himself close enough to attempt a rollup for a two count.
The match continues back and forth for a while. All three of these guys seem evenly matched. The pace changes once again when Travis Kline hits a thumb to the eyes of Jones and then connects with a Russian legsweep. Curley nails him with a lariat and then sets up for the Huroo Driver, but Jones is there to make sure that never happens. Jones nails Curley with a t-bone suplex and then pushes him out of the ring, but Kline rushes forward with a big boot in the corner. He attempts “What a Travis-ty”, but it is unable to connect when Jones elbows his way out of it. Kline moves to another rollup attempt, but Jones pulls him up and whips him against the ropes, nailing the Decade of Divinity on the rebound for the three count. Curley rolled into the ring, but was unable to stop the pinfall. Jacky moved into the ring to celebrate with her husband.
RILEY STEVENS: “What a match! Ollie, did you think Christian Jones would be able to pull this off?”
OLIVER THIBODAUX: “My money was on Curley, but this is Jones’ night. First he got payback on Jack Conway, and now he is heading into the Sole Survivor match. I’m not too worried about Corvin and Curley though, they can still make this night one to remember in the main event.”
WINNER: CHRISTIAN JONES
After the commercial break we cut to the trainer’s room, where Trish Newborn is getting off of the bed without the help of doctors after the close call earlier in the night. She is approached by the Reverend Thomas Cromartie, who knocks quietly on the door before entering with a Bible in his hand. The Reverend says that he is praying for Trish to be well, to which Trish says thank you, but she will be fine. The Reverend continues by quoting some inspirational verses from Psalms about fighting through hard times, but then Caroline O’Hara Burchill enters the scene with a smug look on her face. She says that no amount of praying would have been able to save Trish if it weren’t for those referees. Cromartie says that it was by the grace of God that those referees, those angels, were sent to save Trish. Burchill finds that hilarious and tells the Reverend and Trish that they should have a tag team match next week. Burchill will find someone, and then they would find out whose side God is truly on. Both Trish and the Reverend agree and the match is set for next week.

MADALYN MACIE vs. TREVOR MILLER
In this next match, Trevor Miller is looking for revenge against Madalyn Macie after the post-match attack at United We Stand. They lock up, and it becomes clear very early on that Miller is able to wrestle circles around Madlayn. He takes her to the ground and moves around her body, gripping and ripping at every appendage he can find. Madalyn begins to pound the mat in rage as Miller jumps up, shaking his head, with a huge smile on his face. Madalyn tries to lock up with Miller again, but he swivels around and slams her to the mat with a german suplex. Madalyn rolls out of the ring, furious, as Miller talks some trash to her. “You can’t handle any of us,” he says. She moves onto the apron and Miller moves forward, but then pulls back. He’s toying with her. She moves into the ring and swings at him, but he ducks under it. Madlayn reaches back with an elbow that lands on Miller’s jaw, making him move back quickly. She bounces off of the ropes and goes for a crossbody, but he jolts out of the way and Madlayn falls flat on her face. She rolls out of the ring quickly and moves up the ramp as the referee begins his count. Miller urges her to get back inside, but Madalyn waves her hand and then turns back up the ramp. By this point, the referee is already high enough in the count that Miller doesn’t even bother going after her. The end result is a countout.
RILEY STEVENS: “That has to be embarrassing for Madalyn Macie. She is set to take on Cosmo Cooper in a No Escape match at Category 5 for the Legacy Championship, and she was humiliated by the former Legacy Champion Trevor Miller just now.”
OLIVER THIBODAUX: “Embarassed? Humiliated? Oh shut up! Madalyn doesn’t need to wrestle this loser! He isn’t in her league! She did the same thing I would have done – just walk out!”
WINNER: TREVOR MILLER (COUNTOUT)
After the commercial break, we see Madalyn Macie storming through the backstage area. She comes across Buckley and Bellamy who tell her that their match is about to start and she needs to be at ringside. She calls them idiots and tells them that she is going home and that they are on their own. Buckley and Bellamy both respond with frustration – they thought this was the start of a new team. Madalyn turned around and told them that they both got played, and now they are on their own. She doesn’t need them anymore, and if they don’t stop whining, she will take both of them out right now. They say nothing, and then Madalyn storms off in a huff.

COSMO COOPER & TERRY MCKENNA vs. MATT BELLAMY & TREVOR BUCKLEY
Madalyn Macie may have avoided true justice tonight, but Cosmo Cooper, the new Legacy Champion, and Terry McKenna were ready to get their hands on the new team of Matt Bellamy and Trevor Buckley. Bellamy starts the match against McKenna, and he doesn’t allow the technician to get hold of him, instead taking the arm and wrenching it hard before whipping McKenna off the ropes and nailing him with a dropkick. Bellamy pulls McKenna into the corner and tags in Buckley and the two begin to stomp away at McKenna until the referee finally puts a stop to it. Buckley slams McKenna with a few more hard shots before tossing him into a different corner and placing his boot across the face. The ref once again breaks it up before Buckley bounces off the ropes and nails McKenna with a tornado DDT for a two count. Another quick tag out to Bellamy and another double team in the corner. A snapmare sends McKenna down to the ground before Bellamy nails him with a dropkick to the back of the head. The youngsters continue to work over McKenna for a while.
After another quick tag out, McKenna manages to battle his way to his feet, sending Buckley backwards with a hard forearm to the gut. Buckley came charging back, but McKenna dropped him down and locked him in an armbar faster than you could blink. Bellamy ran in and broke it up with a big stomp to McKenna, and Cosmo stepped through the ropes but the referee stopped that. Buckley moved into the corner as McKenna was making his way to his feet. He charged McKenna but was hiptossed away. TAG! Cosmo is in! The first thing he did was charge across the ring and smack Bellamy with a hard forearm, and he went crashing to the ground. Cosmo nailed Buckley with a belly to belly and then waited for him to stand back up. CRATERMAKER! The jumping piledriver sends Buckley hard into the mat! Cosmo hooks the leg…1….2….3! That’s it!
RILEY STEVENS: “Bellamy and Buckley were working so well together, I thought they had this one in the bag!”
OLIVER THIBODAUX: “They did too, and I think that’s why McKenna and Cosmo came rallying back. Jesus… someone better check on Buckley…”
WINNERS: COSMO COOPER & TERRY MCKENNA
After the match, we cut to the interview lounge where the GCW Champion Leela Watts just finished watching Cosmo Cooper pick up a big win. She is thrilled when the interview begins, and she is asked about Christian Jones, Gilbert Geiger, and Hercules Cortez – the three men who qualified for the Sole Survivor match earlier in the night. Leela says she is a fighting champion and she isn’t afraid of anyone, although everyone in the match seems like a great competitor. When asked who she believes is the favorite, she says that she has to be. She took out Zack Burton on her own, but now she would just have to do it with three other men. She says the Sole Survivor match will be grueling, but she is good enough to get through, especially if she has the fans behind her.

CWC WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ASHLEY TIERNEY vs. TRICIA REINHARDT
