“Rage only works if it is justified. That's the trick with rage. You gotta have a reason to be mad.” Sam Kinison <span style='font-family:Times'>The Donavan Residence Asheville, North Carolina August 9th, 2017, 6:07pm There’s no fancy backdrop or montage-style intro this time. There’s just the garage, impeccably-kept interior with every tool, box and trinket in its proper place, a stunning black-and-silver 1968 Mustang GT California Special and a perfectly-seething Lyra LeVeux-Donavan. Never before did the tank top with the world ‘Cruel’ in red letters on the front look more appropriate than at that very second. Certainly, by now, the world had seen the shenanigans that took place in Lyra’s one-on-one encounter with Dakota Shane at HPWXVII as well as the furious tweets that followed after the fact… and if they had seen Lyra’s verbal fury, they had likewise seen Eric’s stern challenge laid not only at the feet of the Shane Sisters, but at those of Hudson as well. Speaking of the Irish Dragon, he moves into the frame a few moments later, right after the view steadies. While he doesn’t look any happier than Lyra does, he is at least calm and somewhat rational. He leans against the hood of the Mustang alongside her, white t-shirt tucked into an old, comfortable pair of jeans. Hands in his pockets, he stares toward the concrete surface of the drive for a moment before turning to his wife. Eric Donavan: Sure you’re up for this? Lyra LeVeux-Donavan: No. That’s why you’re doing to do the talking. Otherwise we’ll be gone before we have a shot at revenge. Chuckling quietly, Eric turns to look at his wife. She keeps her eyes forward, on the camera, smouldering hot. He gets her attention, though; curling a finger under her chin, he turns her gaze from the device and to him. Eric Donavan: Don’t let this turn inward. Lyra LeVeux-Donavan: What if it already has? Eric Donavan: Then we have a second problem on top of the first. Lyra LeVeux-Donavan: I’m sorry. Eric Donavan: Don’t be. From the way her expression twists, Eric might as well have just asked her to snuff out the sun. She slowly turns her attention forward again. Lyra LeVeux-Donavan: Let’s just handle this. A simple nod is given before Eric turns back to the camera. Eric Donavan: I’m going to make this very simple for you, Hudson. And this involves the Shane Sisters and the Parker Brothers as well, so if you’re out there watching? I suggest you pay attention. The Irish Dragon smirks faintly, out of his own very slight amusement rather than anything else. Eric Donavan: Four times we have faced the Shane Sisters, in tag team and singles matches, since HPW #7. Each of those times, some manner of nonsense, or an act of boneheaded officiating, or straight-up cheating, has cost us a victory. Whether it has been them touching my wife with familiarity not afforded them or taking cheap shots… take your pick because it’s all equally infuriating… those two former tag champions have made us look foolish. And that’s something that we have a damn hard time allowing to slide. Lyra LeVeux-Donavan: Fucking whores... Turning sharply to Lyra, Eric narrows his eyes and she looks away, jaw clenched. Then it’s back to the camera. Eric Donavan: Need I remind the world that each of these three tag matches in question were title matches? So not only have they made a mockery of us but they’ve done it while rubbing their previously-held titles in our faces. Now, before you go off thinking this some sob story? Don’t. Don’t… because we accept that the losses are our fault as well. We’re both well-traveled veterans of this business and both of us have had multiple title reigns. For as long as we’ve driven the roads and pounded the mats, we should be ready for this sort of thing. It has been flung our way more times than we can count, has it not? Lyra LeVeux-Donavan: Yes... Nodding to his wife’s response, Eric puts an arm around her shoulders. She willingly leans in to him, half-hiding her face against his chest. Eric Donavan: The fact is, we haven’t come up with an answer for them. Without any cheap tricks on their side? They can’t beat us. We proved that at the aforementioned HPW #7. But that means next to nothing at this point. While some invader tag team has HPW gold around their waist, while one of the most exciting teams to have been a part of HPW has left the company and while the Shane Sisters continue to fight and complain and go at one another with impunity… the best team in HPW, bar none, look like jackasses who show up every Tuesday just to figure out how they can be jettisoned further down the totem pole. Right now? As certain as we are that we could destroy the Parker Brothers, we don’t deserve that shot. At this very moment? As much as we hate to admit it, the Shane Sisters are most worthy of the next shot at them. It’s a shitty situation to be in, knowing how good you are and how great you can become, but having to accept that you simply don’t have what it takes in the company in which you’ve chosen to ply your trade. Ever felt that way, Hudson? It sucks, pal, let me tell you. Lyra LeVeux-Donavan: Hence… the challenge. Eric Donavan: Right. See, neither of us want to leave Hollywood Pro. We’ve enjoyed our time here… met some good people, had some great matches. It’s been nice to be able to enjoy wrestling again without having to deal with politics or any of that bullshit. But at this point? Lyra LeVeux-Donavan: We’re not doing right by Hollywood Pro. That’s the hardest part to admit. We come into this place with so much fire and drive, bringing with us a history of an extremely high level of success and... Holding up his free hand, Eric opens it so that the palm can face the camera for a moment. Eric Donavan: ...nothing. Lyra LeVeux-Donavan: The way we see it is… we have to put ourselves in a match where everything is on the line. And all that we have is our HPW contract. That’s all we have here. Nodding, Eric lowers his hand. Eric Donavan: The Dragon Clan versus the Shane Sisters. Losers Leave HPW. We want one more shot at them, Hudson. It’s not about their cheating, it’s not about us getting a title shot or getting revenge… it’s about proving to ourselves that this is where we belong. And if we can’t beat those two with our jobs on the line? Lyra LeVeux-Donavan: We don’t deserve those jobs. Finally looking toward the camera again, Lyra glares quietly while Eric polishes their message off. Eric Donavan: And if we don’t get that opportunity, we have to assume that the decision as to whether or not we’re of worth to this company has been made for us. We’ll opt out of our contracts and wish the company well. Lyra LeVeux-Donavan: No hard feelings, no mess and no stress. Eric Donavan: Don’t misunderstand us here, Hudson: this isn’t an ultimatum. It isn’t a demand, either. It’s an acceptance of who and what we are and recognition of where we are. Besides… I think you can everyone else can agree that a match like this will put asses in seats. Lyra LeVeux-Donavan: So give it some thought, then give us an answer. Yes… or no. Eric Donavan: We’ll be waiting on your answer. Disengaging from Eric, Lyra walks over and turns off the camera, ending the short message.</span> |
