He did well in his role. Unfortunately, and beyond his own control, he was booked for so many years to look like a loser that it hurt his credibility. He wasn't terrible at promos. He was okay in the ring. He had a good look. To say it was a complete failure would be wrong. He is now a bonafide WWE main eventer and that is something nobody can take away from him. AJ Styles vs. Brock Lesnar is a better match and I think WWE knows that. I just hope people don't get to comfy with AJ as champ. The India tour is right around the corner. I expect Jinder to win it back before then. |

The problem I have is that Jinder was just okay. He cuts okay promos. He wrestles an okay match. He has a look, I guess. Your top dude shouldn't be good, or okay, they should be one of the best wrestlers you have. Jinder Mahal is a solid B- at best in a lot of departments, and that's not accounting for some real questionable booking. WWE's roster is too robust for Jinder Mahal to be carrying the belt. They can, and should, do better. I had a similar reaction to Money in the Bank. Owens, Zayn, Styles, Nakamura... they gave the briefcase to Baron Corbin. Like... I... what? And then it went nowhere, because they, too, realized that they'd given the briefcase to Baron Corbin. WWE has so much talent and no idea what to do with it. |

I disagree that your top guy has to be, as you put it, the best "wrestler" on your roster. Owens, Zayn, Nakamura, and others are really really good. Nakamura is probably my favorite person on the roster to watch (next to The Miz). But none of them needed to win MITB. They will get there. Corbin needed it to elevate him. I agree it was a throw away in the end but again, thats not on Corin thats on the people making the decision. In the end, championships in pro wrestling are just tools to move a story along. They are props and mean nothing. Jinder's story needed the championship at the moment. The man who felt "neglected" because of the color of his skin and vilified because of it; the man who wanted to rise to power for his people and to be the leader they needed....that is a story that needed the title. Jinder got reactions, good or bad wherever he went. Plus, as much as I may get sick of hearing about the billions of people in India, its a real market WWE wants to see grow (Just like China which they are heavily marketing right now). |
