His knuckles were full of gushes. He tried covering them up with some gauze pads covered in alcohol. It burned like hell. Yet no recollection of what might’ve happened. Last thing he remembers was shutting his phone off and going out for a walk, alone.

Jersey City was what he called home, not really his home, but at least he hasn’t had any troubles there so far. After turning eighteen, he has walked alone. His life is full of broken promises and bad decisions. She left him, after one of those. His outbursts are occasionally too much to handle and tonight he has proved himself a mess once more.

“A friend...”

He laughed his way down the stairs of the complex of apartments he’s living in. The cold streets of Jersey welcomed him at this late an hour. He didn’t get too far, only making it to the bus stop before stoping to vomit. His stomach couldn’t handle it anymore. After all, he didn’t know how much Jack was in his system. He knew he started with one bottle, after that he doesn’t recall.

As he fell to his knees, he looked up and saw the gaze of the moon. It smiled at him.

“Fuck you and your smug!”

As a kid his parents told him the moon smiled at those she saw worthy. He believed it then. Now, he knew better; the moon only smiles because she mocks us. He knew the moon was mocking him right now as it covered others. He got up and threw a punch in the air, the punch caught the glass covering the advertisement on the bus stop, shattering it.

Glass, light snow and vomit laid around where he stood... and finally he dropped down. A tear fell down from his cheek as he got himself over and went back in. The outside world wasn’t for him, he knew that.

As he covered the gushes on his knuckles he thinks to himself. A smirk appears on his face as he sits down on his couch looking blankly at the end of the hallway.

“A friend...”

Once again, he felt, he was in the shadows... so, from the shadows he’ll strike.
