Becky Balfour
Newbie
[ * ]
After the scuffle in the streets that Riley Savell and Becky Balfour-Lawless had, the two were arrested as seen in the leaked cell phone footage. Now nearly an hour after the initial arrests, the two women sat in side by side holding cells. Becky was sitting on the floor, nearest Riley’s cell. Her fishnet tights were ripped in a few places. The pair had both received medical attention and Becky’s lip was swollen and still red where the piercing had been ripped from her face.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: This has always been my reality. When something happens, it’s never the pretty girl that everyone sees as the aggressor, it’s the street kid.

The usually charismatic, outspoken Balfour’s voice was monotone. Her lively eyes looked down at the cold floor that she was sitting on.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: You challenged me to a fight. YOU started this. This is all your fault.

Riley sat on the far wall away from Becky, her already damaged wrist now in a hard cast, resting in her lap as she picked away at the fresh still slightly soft wrapping. Her eyes trained down as she scoffed at Becky’s words.

Riley Savell: What’s the matter Becks? Thought this was your thing, now you’re one of your people, isn’t that what you wanted.

She lifts her hand to touch at her freshly stitched eyebrow and sucks in a pained breath, shaking her head as she finally looked over at the far more muted Becky.

Riley Savell: You fucking pushed me to this… My ribs were already messed up, fractured wrist… you think I wanted to get thrown in a cell when I should be rehabbing for my matches this week?

Riley’s tone was softer than usual, almost pensive as she pulled her knees up close to her chest and rests her cast on them with another flinch.

Riley Savell: And Hey, I bet Seth at least encouraged you into this… go team or what the fuck ever.

Becky’s eyes remain on the floor.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: Less than twenty four hours ago, my community was nearly burned to the ground. I sat there, in the middle of ring with my fallen brother, watching the flames dance around us. I heard the sirens. I saw everyone fleeing, but I couldn’t. I don’t know, it was like my boots were made of concrete or something. I just held Warren, and I told him that things would be okay, but I wasn’t even sure they would be. It was your sister that nearly killed my brother. Our Followers. Me.

Finally, Becky lifts her head and turns it in the direction of Riley.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: I must have washed my hair three times since then, but I can still smell it. The burning. The smoke.

She sifts her long, dark hair through her fingers and inhales, closing her eyes.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: So don’t come at me with the whole rehab thing, I nearly died.

Riley sighs, pushing up from the wall she walks over to the other side of the cell, running her fingers over the bars she looks down at Becky.

Riley Savell: Yeah…

She swallows hard, her eyes betray the war she’s having with herself in her mind, biting back on her teeth she exhales sharply through her nose.

Riley Savell: The smell goes away, of smoke I mean. You smell it a lot longer than anyone else can, cause it gets in your nose… then it’s just your mind playing tricks, smells do that…

Turning her back to the bars she slides down them so she’s sitting back to back with Becky, a small, soft laugh coming from her as she leans her head back to look at the ceiling.

Riley Savell: You’ll be out soon… I’m betting this is your first arrest, for all the shit you talk; you don’t strike me as the petty criminal type.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: Think again. When I was younger, right after I ran away from my foster home, I used to shoplift. Food, makeup, clothes, I was like thirteen, and I had no other way of providing for myself. I was a juvenile, so I got off easy most of the time, but I’m not really a stranger to being in these cells. I’ve been pretty lucky for most of my adult life. I had friends that put me up, that helped me out, and now I’m in a position to give back, yet...here I am. I’m no good to anyone in here.

Becky taps her boot on the floor as her leg shakes a bit.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: I should have stayed in Detroit with Warren. I left him with family and Followers, but I’m not there for him now.

Balfour puts a finger to her mouth and runs two fingers gently over her lip. She whimpers a bit but quickly reels it in before she cries, knowing who she’s back to back to now in side by side cells. Riley sighs softly and turns her head to look at Becky, she frowns slightly and shakes her head.

Riley Savell: Misdemeanor shit, you’ll be fine… Ash won’t let you stay in here, despite how I treat him he’s actually a really fucking decent guy.

She immediately stops talking, feeling a stab of pain somewhere deep in her stomach at the thought of her fiancé, she gives herself less than a second to feel it, not wanting to show weakness.

Riley Savell: Once they process and decide the fine, we’ll be out and you can hop a plane back to some starving orphan in need of a society shirt.

He tone drips with sarcasm, unable to help her reflex of attack when feeling weak she offers up a derisive laugh, biting at her bottom lip as she keeps her eyes on Becky.

Riley Savell: Why do you do that shit? Tweet out all your charity work like it’s free publicity, I’d think someone that comes from where you do would get it. Would see outside her own little community and how much bigger the world is, the pain out there, it’s a lot larger than a hot meal to some kids in Detroit, you’re so fucking superior with it too, like “OH I’M BECKY LOOK AT ME DO GOOD!”

She swaps her tone to something nasally and mocking, following it up with a slight snort as though she really amused herself, but stops when she sees Becky’s lip properly guilt and her own pain driving her back into silence.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: You have no idea. You don’t know me, you don’t care to, and the feeling is mutual.

The two women again make eye contact before Becky’s eyes are drawn to the fresh cast on Riley’s arm. Her defensive tone changes, as she relaxes a bit.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: I do so much that I DON’T tweet about. I’m currently negotiating appearances for another wrestling company, and I didn’t even ask for a fucking check, or a salary. I asked them to make donations to different organizations that I feel passionate about. I didn’t blast that all over social media, did I?

An officer walks up to the cells to make sure the two aren’t going at it.

Officer: Are you ladies doing okay?

Becky Balfour-Lawless: I’d be doing better if you didn’t have us caged up like animals while you sit behind your desk playing with yourself you asshole!

The officer’s face turns red as he looks over both of them. His eyes finally settling on Riley.

Officer: Maybe someone else actually has an answer for me?

Riley smiles sweetly at the officer, batting her eyelashes a little she pushes herself up and walks over to the bars closest to him, pushing herself against them she wraps her good hand around one bar and pouts slightly.

Riley Savell: My wrist hurts…

She holds her arm out at the bars and looks up at the officer once again with another bat of her eyelashes, as soon as he steps closer she pulls her arm back and shakes her head.

Riley Savell: Wait, no… it’s my eyes… looking at you. Fuck off.

She offers that same sweet smile and manages to flip him the bird around her cast, the officer huffs loudly after being drawn in by her flirtatious demeanor, he storms off back the way he came and Riley turns back to Becky.

Riley Savell: I did that in Empire you know…

She stays standing and looks over at her with a shrug.

Riley Savell: All my match fees go to build schools in Africa, the rest is being used to set up a fund for at risk girls with nowhere to go…

Her voice trails off and she suddenly gets a slight threat to her tone.

Riley Savell: Fuck! Tell anyone that and I’ll rip every piercing out of your body, got it?

Becky laughs mockingly, but remains seated, making no move to stand up.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: No one would believe me anyway. Nobody ever believes me. You, your friends, every single fucking person I encounter in wrestling...they all call me a gimmick, or question my authenticity. So don’t worry, your secret is safe with me.

Becky runs her tongue over her injured bottom lip.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: That was cold, by the way, but it makes so much sense. All you have to do is bat your eyes and you have everyone falling at your feet. Must be an easy existence.

Riley slowly walks over to the bars, dropping down next to Becky now she presses her cheek to the bars and looks at her ‘nemesis’ with a slight scoff.

Riley Savell: You think it’s an easy life for me? All I’m ever told is to stand there and look pretty, don’t do this Riley, ladies don’t act that way. Don’t get into wrestling Riley, you’ll mess up that pretty face of yours. Go back to modeling Riley, the ring isn’t for girls like you.

She rolls her eyes, then looks back down at her cast with a frown, turning it over she shakes her head.

Riley Savell: You think a pretty face opens doors, but you don’t get it. People look at me and they see some spoiled princess with a famous brother and a rich boyfriend… I have to work twice as hard and scream twice as loud to be taken seriously and then people like you…

Riley sneers slightly.

Riley Savell: People like you come along and try to draw comparisons to me and Meg, like there are any… we’re not doing this because we’re the same, we all have our own agendas. I refuse to be the pretty little socialite, you said it yourself, we don’t know eachother… but you forgot the part where you’re just as fucking judgmental as me.

Becky pulls herself away from the bars a bit, sitting cross legged on the floor, facing Riley who still has her face to the bars.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: Maybe you’re right...for once. I have judged you, and your entire group of friends. I see the last names, the cute outfits, the pretty faces, and I assume you have had an easier path to where we are than I did. Maybe this is an eye opener, or maybe it isn’t...but I still don’t like Megan, and Aria is fucking dead when I see her.

Becky scoots closer, her face just a few inches from the bars. There was something about Riley’s expression. Becky could see anger, confusion, and other emotions running through Savell, or at least she thought she could.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: When we leave here, whenever that is, we’re not going to like each other. We’re still different, more than we’re the same, but hearing about the whole school thing at least gives me a reason to respect you. I still think you’re a loudmouth bitch and I still want to punch you in that face and really welcome you to wrestling properly.

Becky laughs, knowing the two had punched each other enough today to make up for the lack of punches previously. Her laugh soon fades though as her eyes move down again.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: Truth is, I rarely feel fear, but I’m alone out here. I remember being 14, 15, and having to do these terrible things for a place to stay. I can’t...I won’t, go there again.

Becky this time fails to stop herself as her chest heaves up a bit, she quickly wipes the corner of her eye.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: I just want my husband to be here. I want out of this fucking hell hole.

Riley watches quietly, she doesn’t say anything as Becky shows a little weakness. Staying quiet she shakes her head and half whispers, not even sure Becky will hear her.

Riley Savell: You’re not alone.

Riley then pushes up once again, moving over to the bars where the door stands she presses into them and shouts out as loud as she can.

Riley Savell: Hey, you dumb fucks, my fiancé is Asher Sweet… Yeah, you know THAT Sweet family, so I would suggest you get your fat asses out of your chairs, put down the fucking donuts and MAKE SOME CALLS…

She looks back at Becky and shakes her head before pushing up against the bars again.

Riley Savell: I want this Jail Bond ordered in the next hour or so help me when I get out of here I will sue the fucking ass off every single one of you that so much as touched me today!

As Riley turns from the bars some commotion can be heard out in the main office, the shuffling of chairs as the officers start to actually take their arrests seriously. Riley looks at Becky and narrows her eyes.

Riley Savell: I made you come here, I don’t like you. I don’t pity you either, but you’re in here because of me…

Swallowing hard she looks away and closes her eyes as though going through her own memories, parts of her past she’s never told anyone, when she opens her eyes, Becky can see a genuine empathy in her gaze.

Riley Savell: Once you get back to Detroit, whatever truce we have right now? It’s done, but until then… until then I’ll do everything in my power to get you home.

Becky nods her head, standing up as well. She walks to the door of the cell and wraps both hands around the bars. She slowly turns her head towards Riley.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: Just so we’re clear, you didn’t make me do anything. You challenged me, and I’m not a chicken shit like most of the people in our business. I’m real, and I was kicking your ass until the cops saved you.

With a smirk, it’s now Becky’s turn to shout out to the officers.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: She has a fucking broken wrist and you throw her in here? This is why nobody likes the police in 2018. Treat us like people, not animals.

She yanks on the bars, but it’s in vain as she quickly releases them and stumbles back a bit, just managing to keep her balance from falling.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: I don’t need your rich boyfriend, husband, whoever he is, or his money. Tell him to use that money to get you some real medical treatment. After our little encounter, I’m not seeing any photoshoots in your near future.

Knowing she may have gave away too much of her personal feelings earlier, Becky attempts making up for it with the harsh words directed at Savell. Riley laughs and shakes her head.

Riley Savell: Shut the Fuck up, if you knew Ash at all, you’d know he wouldn’t leave you in here even if I begged him to… he’s better than that.

Riley sighs, feeling that same sadness in the pit of her stomach once more she whispers her next words.

Riley Savell: Better than me…

Becky sighs, and just as Riley did before, she whispers. Making sure nobody else can hear her.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: Stop. You just told me that you donate your match earnings to building schools in Africa, there aren’t many people in the entire world that would do that. You’re a bitch, but you at least have a heart. Somewhere in there.

Becky looks at the cast on her rival’s wrist once more.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: I have a heart too. That’s why I haven’t shattered your wrist yet.

The officers begin chattering and both women seem to hear the name ‘Asher Sweet’ at the same time. Becky’s eyes light up as she nibbles on her bottom lip, but quickly stops as she bites into her fresh wound.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: FUCK! Let us out.

After a moment or two, Riley hears Asher’s calm tone echo down the hall and she visibly relaxes, her eyes lighting up despite the sadness she feels and she leans her ear against the gap in the bars to try and hear him.

Riley Savell: We’re getting out of here soon… Then you can go home and this stupid fucking shit can be behind us… The next time I see you, I’m going to rip the other fucking piercing off your face as your so much as look at me.

Her tone is almost joking as she turns away from the bars and moves to sit on the bed, knowing Asher will get them out soon she seems calmer.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: You’re so full of shit. He’s YOUR boyfriend, he’s not getting me out too.

Becky’s eyes become a bit glassy as she huffs in a defeated tone.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: I’ve seen this before. Again, the rich, privileged, get to walk out. I’ll probably be here all night, until this hits the internet and Seth realizes how bad we screwed up and flies out here.

Becky follows Riley’s lead and moves to her own bed in her cell. She lays down on the hard bed, attempting to get comfortable as she cuddles the pillow against her stomach and rests her chin against it.

A few moments of silence pass between them before an officer appears once again, he clears his throat and looks over them both.

Officer: Balfour-Lawless?

He nods at Becky and Riley rolls her eyes, her irritation rising as she knows what he’s done, but refusing to show any further weakness, she remains quiet.

Officer: You’re free to go…

Becky sits up in the bed, shooting Riley a glance. She slightly tilts her head in a quick nod and stands. Becky then drops the pillow on the ground and steps on it as she walks towards the officer, holding her middle finger up at him as she passes him.

Becky Balfour-Lawless: You can never keep me down…

Her words were aimed at the officer as she walks out of Riley’s view. Once Becky is out of sight, Riley looks over at the officer and glares, shaking her head slightly.

Riley Savell: Really?

The officer actually laughs and folds his arms over his chest as he watches Riley.

Officer: Mr. Sweet said, and I’m quoting here; “You can change your ‘at’ for this too.”

Riley laughs back at him in a sarcastic way before flipping him off as the officer turns to follow Becky down the hall, ready to process her release.
