A moth drifted lazily across the horizon. It dipped and weaved, and made it's way across the Mirage Village. A few people walked by, but ignored it. It continued lazily until a bussling young boy dashed past it, disturbing its path. It twirled around, then fell to the ground. It had not been able withstand the obstacles that were always apparent in life.

Toshi did not intend to kill the moth, he was just making dure that he would not be cast among the forgotten, who could not withstand the test of time. He had to train, and step up to his new rank, genin. He already had basic knowledge of ninja skills from training himself, but he was in search of more knowledge, and more skill. He needed to be ready for school. He planned to be the best in his class. That would be hard if he didn't find himself someone to train him. He dashed through the streets in the sweltering desert sun. He looked at everyone, analyzing physique and deciding who would be able to teach him. The strong men scared him, so he was trying to find a nice lady to train him. So far, he had not found anything.

He dashed around a corner and a bug was caught in his eye. Yet another life claimed by the hardships of living. He had to make sure the same did not happen to him! He dashed blindly through the street, eyes closed, as he tried to get the bug from his eye. Unfortunately, he had forgotten to stop running, and as he ran along the streets, he nearly crashed head on into many passer by's. He was in too much of a hurry to stop, though. If he stopped, he would fall behind, and he might lose his advantage over the other students in his academy class.

And so, a crazy boy blindly ran along the streets of Mirage Village, hoping to find someone who could train him.

(If you wanna step up, step up, you're gonna get knocked down! Step up, you'll get knocked down!)

Tatsu wandered the streets. He was silent, and he was thinking. He looked up at the sky. It was pure blue ofcourse with not a cloud in sight. The sun weltered down upon the village. It baked the houses. Infact, it was because of the sun that the houses were so strong. Anyway, he continued to walk down the road. He ignored everyone, not wanting to speak.

He kept walking until he came to the center of the town. Here there was a water fountain. The water in the village came from a deep underground river. He went over to it and sat down on it's edge. He didn't have his sand gourd with him, but he didn't always need it after all, being in a desert afterall. All the sand of his land was at the mercy of his soul.

Toshi continued to run blindly, annoying pain buzzing in his eye. He barely missed a cart full of merchandise as he bolted through the streets of the village. He kept on running, until he got the stupid bug out of his eye. His vision was fuzzy, so he blinked a few times, until he saw clearly. Luckily, he was able to see a figure in front of him just before impact. Unluckily, he tried to stop but only skipped across the hard ground and smacked right into an unlucky person.

Toshi was pretty banged up, and he stood up with a frown. He saw that he had run into a young man, so he dusted himself off to apologize. "I am sooooo sorry mister, I couldn't see because I ran into a bug and then I couldn't see so I blinked then I saw you but couldn't stop so I hit you and got hurt. Soooo Sorry!" Toshi pleaded as his lip began to puff up a little bit. It was that he noticed that this was no villager; it was a Sabaku. Toshi could tell from his build; it represented the desert itself. He had knocked a Sabaku into the water fountain. O no.... he thought. He could either run away and try not to get into trouble, apologize and maybe get punished, or he could beat this guy up and prove himself. He decided that the second was the best idea.

"O no, I a-am s-so s-s-sorry M-Mister Sabaku." Said Toshi, close to tears and bowing down with his hands over his head.

Tatsugira looked down at his shadow as he thought of all that he'd learned recently. Life was not a game. It was not a toy. It was something else....he tried to think of something for it, getting random images that weren't too kind, but then his thoughts were stopped as some annoying kid not too much younger than himself came stampeding forward.

Being suddenly lost from his thoughts, he soon found himself pushed backwards into the fountain. Now Tatsu was awake with burning rage, after he'd managed to actually spend a few hours not being angry for once. The twelve year old Sabaku got out of the water fountain and jumped down onto the ground. A cloud of sand erupted up and spread out, expressing his anger. He was soaked and in his clothes, something that NEVER happened, but with the cloud of sand, the wind blew his messy orange hair somewhat dry.

"Shut up! I don't want to hear your appology! You ruined my day!" He said harshly. He stepped forward a bit, out of the cloud. His bright green eyes surrounded by thick black circles shone. He looked at his rude aquaintance, awaiting another stupid thing to come out of his mouth. However, he did think he liked being called Mr. No one ever called him that before.

Toshi looked up and saw a cloud of sand. This was a Sabaku. Only they controlled the desert itself with so much skill. Toshi had heard of these people. All of them ran the Mirage Village, no matter thier age. Toshi hoped he wouldn't die as he continued groveling at Tatsu's feet.

"Mister Sabaku please! Don't hurt me please! I am so sorry!" Continued Toshi, beginning to replace sadness with anger. A fight raged inside him. He wanted so bad to kill this idiot, and end this conflict, but the repurcussions would be endless and the Sabaku clan would want vengeance, and his mother would suffer. That could not happen. At the thought of his mother, Toshi calmed down, and he gained control of his anger. His mind raced, he had to escape this boy's wrath. He decided that there was nothing he could do, and sadness embodied him. He collapsed to the ground, crying. "Please!....don't hurt...me" he sobbed, rocking himself on the ground. "I just wanted to make a friend!" he howled.

Tatsugira thought this boy was pathetic. He hardly liked anyone, especially someone who ruined his day. Why would he want to be friends with some begging kid? He was however not the stupidest of kids, even if he was a fool. He feared Tatsu, and that fear was real. Tatsu remembered though, not too long ago he was the one who got picked on by other kids in the older village.

The sand was calm, and Tatsu walked over to this boy, and stood over him. His face was frowning, but not angry. He just looked down at him, and then he finally said, more calmly, "What's your name? I am Sabaku, Tatsugira."

Toshi's waterfall of tears came to and end as he noticed the Sabaku boy did not intend to hurt him anymore. He looked up and stared Tatsu in the eye, stating, "I am Toshi Tokagawa." Toshi then stood up, slowly. He wiped the snot from his nose and the tears that stained his face. Then, he stood face to face with the Sabaku child and mumbled, "I am really sorry..."

He wondered, that now, that he was spared, that he could stretch his luck and get training from this master ninja. If that was possible, it was worth a try, so Toshi decided to test his luck. "I was wondering if maybe....you could help train me....my academy teacher told me that many of the children in my class are stronger than me, and that cannot happen. I have to be the strongest. You understand, don't you?" Said Toshi, gaining strength behind his vioce with every word.

A cruel smile played slowly over Tatsu's mouth as he looked across at Toshi, then he said, "Here, Toshi!" And a blast of sand pounded forward directed at Toshi's chest. Tatsu folded his arms and stood where he was.

"Don't be sorry, just fight me, if you can. The first lesson is this..." He said, trailing off as more sand flew across towards Toshi. "Pain and suffering. If you cannot withstand pain and suffering, you cannot become a ninja and you will never be stronger than than a single tiny insect."

The sand blasted Toshi straight in the chest, sending him rolling across the street, where he bumped into a wall and stopped. He gasped, and panted. That attack ad knocked the wind out of him. He slowly stood up, the brave flame of determination burning bright in his eyes. He squared his stance and drew up his chakra. Then, he made the hand seals Dragon, Rooster. With this done, Toshi grabbed five kunai from his pocket, and as he toouched each one, they bursted into flames. Armed and dangerous, Toshi sprinted towards Tatsu. As he neared the next blast of sand, Toshi dove the the left and threw three of his kunai at Tatsu.

The kunai raced towards their target, flames trailing the kunai like a comet and its trail. Toshi hadn't intended to do this, it was just his anger that had gripped him. He was angry that this kid would strike him unaware. Now, he wouldn't hold back, and he would show Tatsu, show everyone, what he was capable of. As he attacked, his eyes flickered with the fire of anger, and suffering. Then, just as the Kunai were about to hit their target, Toshi declared, "How could you!" he continued, "Why would you do that?!" Then, Toshi hit the ground and quickly got to his feet, clutching his two burning kunai. He slowly inched toward his enemy, Tatsu, as he intended to attack close range after his other attack missed or hit.

"You're a fool, you haven't suffered anything yet!" Tatsu declared. His Sabaku Shield came up to block the burning kunai, and seeing him rush forward, he made the sand swirl intensly around him. The sand completely blocked the way of Toshi, and he pushed his hands forward. The wall of sand lashed out at his opponent like angry tentacles.

"Didn't you know that people put out camp fires with sand?" He asked.

Toshi wasn't surprised when everything he had attempted had been blocked. He had nothing left in his arsenal to throw as this arsehole. He was a student after all, against a genin. As he was thinking of his next move, Toshi was smashed against the wall by sand, and it pinned him to the wall. Grimacing, he declared, "Your an idiot, just because I am at a disadvantage doesn't mean I will ever stop trying! Never, ever, will I stop fighting, because the day I stop fighting is the day I die!" A fire raged in his eyes, and with his last word, he struggled and struggled to get free. He set his jaws as a lonely tear fell down his face. He could not get free of this sand attack, but that didn't mean he would ever stop trying to get free.

Tatsugira didn't appreciate being called an idiot, but he didn't let it get to him. This "foe" wasn't even woth his time. The only thing that he kept on at this was his anger, from everything that'd happened in his life. It made Tatsu what he was today.

The tendrils of sand that pinned Toshi, grabbed around him, as Tatsu moved his hands to clutch. He squeezed Toshi hard. He didn't crush him persay, byt the only reason he didn't kill Toshi was because he had to be an academy student. Being an academy student meant that Sabaku Sensei would be mad at himif he killed one of her students. He didn't want to shatter the band of trust he'd recently gotten from her. So, instead, for fun, Tatsu moved his arm from side to side in a jerking motion. He slammed the sand rope holding Toshi hard into the ground, swining it from side to side ending in a smack each time. He would continue to do this until he heard or saw what he wanted to see.

Toshi felt his entire body scream as he was squished, but he didn't say a word. He just stared at his foe as he was sqeezed and smacked. He wimpered a little every time he got smacked into the walls, but he was determined not to show this enemy the feeling of pain. But, when he was thrown to the left and then to the right, Toshi could not help it. He felt sick, and puke came up in his throat, and then, when he got smacked onto the wall, he hurled. A mess of green and orange and bright purple spilled onto the sand that had a hold over him. He would not last long in this position, because already he was begginning to pass out.

Tatsugira saw his torture as he puked. Now he squeezed Toshi tighter, for just an instant, and he threw him against the wall as hard as he could. Then the sand fell off Toshi and onto the ground. "Thank you, Toshi." Tatsu said, cooly.

The young Sabaku stepped forward. By now his clothes were much drier, thanks to the sun. He had a look on his face that seemed so innocent as he walked up to Toshi. Once again, he looked down at the boy who had fallen. He was hoping he'd learned his lesson about not watching where he was going. The next time he got bumped into something by Toshi, he wouldn't be so nice about it.

Toshi stood up, wobbling around like Jello. Then, he stood up fully and looked straight at Tatsu, and said, "Could you....please train me?" with a small smile. He needed to be trained, and surely after this wierd guys' change in personality, he would help a child. If not, Toshi would continue looking for someone else to help him. He didn't care that Tatsu had tortured him, he could forgive, as long as he trained him. After seeing the power of sand, though, Toshi wanted so bad to control the desert just like Tatsu, from now on, he planned to try and learn some sand jutsu.

Tatsu smiled and closed his eyes, laughing. Where his eyes were closed were deep black ovals. "Me? Train you? I'd kill you, and you know it. I'm not going to train you. Not in the way you want anyhow. You want me to train you? You've just had a sample. You can never have the power I have. It swallows, consumes....it deprives. It rages on in a storm, forever. I don't even know why I'm telling you this." He said. He had stopped laughing, and he opened his green eyes again. Then he turned from Toshi as someone approached them from behind.

There stood a woman. She was taller than both of the boys with long brown hair pulled in a bun at the right side in a red ribbon. She had lightly tanned skin, glowing yellow eyes, and wore a red training outfit and black sandals. She carried with her a giant sword on her back, and two fans at her sides. She smiled at them and then she spoke, "Are we playing nice children?"

Toshi frowned as Tatsu spoke. The frown was not in sadness, but in anger. He needed to be trained, and this was a guy that could easily train him in the ways of the desert. Toshi was about to open his mouth and say something stupid when Tatsu turned around. Toshi screwed his face up and looked at what was approaching. It was a woman, and a pretty woman at that. She was built like a runner, lean yet strong. She had the most beautiful eyes Toshi had ever seen. When she spoke, it woke Toshi from his trance.

"Are we playing nice children?"

Toshi stuttered, then blushed as he said, "Yes miss....." Then, he walked away from Tatsu to put as much distance between them as possible. After that, he noticed that the pretty lady was a ninja! She had weapons and she was even built like a ninja, and a very proffessional one at that. He ran up to her, and looked up, deep into her eyes. Then, he said, "Miss, could you please train me? I tried to get him," Toshi pointed to Tatsu, then at his bruises forming around his body, "but he hurt me and refused. Could you train me, please? It is my goal in life to be strong enough to survive, and to not fall behind my peers. I am already at a disadvantage, as I have no sacred clan bloodline!" He said this with an urgency that made it sound like the most important thing in the world.

Tatsu glared back at Toshi as Toshi's face got angry. He didn't say anything, and he was waiting for Toshi to say another stupid thing. But then Toshi turned away from him and ran up to the women. He wasn't surprised, but he felt something in him, the loneliness. Did he feel sorry for Toshi? No one would ever know, as all he did was remain silent and blink, his face was blank, and his eyes were harsh.

The woman looked at the two boys. She saw one was Tatsugira Sabaku, for she'd heard about the trouble he caused, breaking a roof on a buidling not too long ago in a bout with his brother. But she looked at the new little academy student and saw a whole nother story. This boy didn't know how things worked around here. one doesn't ask for training, one recieves training if they are selected, or, they train themselves.

"My name is Tsurugi, Mia, and don't whine. Whinning won't get you anywhere. Do not beg, for you will not recieve. You seem to be the type to learn from mistakes." She said to Toshi. Then she turned her face towards Tatsugira.

Tatsu looked back at her. He didn't leave, because he was trying to be "good". Whoever this person was, she was skilled and wise, even if her style obviously was not his type to learn. "Sabaku, Tatsu correct?" Mia asked him. Tatsu nodded.

"You did a good job. A genin does not teach academy students. A sensei does. But next time, leave the punishment to your elders. Now, you are dismissed Tatsugira. Go about your previous buisness and I will handle this one." Mia told Tatsugira, sternly, yet as gentle as she could. She knew about the traits of the Sabaku and didn't wish to upset Tatsugira.

Tatsugira nodded slightly, and he leapt up into a cloth covering a door, pinned up by poles and asended to the roof. However, once on the roof, he crouched down, and watched, barely propping his head over the small covering he had. Mia turned to little Toshi once more and she waited for him to speak.

Toshi waited for Tatsu to be punished, but instead, he was. Apparently, Tatsu had done the correct thing in beating up a child younger and less experienced than himself. He had done the correct thing in torturing a child. Toshi's face burned with rage, and he felt like ripping out Tatsu's lungs. But he didn't because he couldn't. That was what Toshi hated about himself. He could never do anything that required skill or strength. He intended to change that.

As Mia Tsurugi spoke, Toshi looked to the left and the right. He listened to her words carefully and nodded. She was correct, he learned from his painful mistakes. Already, today he had learned a very important lesson; never cross a Sabaku. That is one thing Toshi would be more wary of next time. Once Mia was finished speaking, Toshi stepped back and said, with a sad "Sorry, I didn't know. I will take my leave now." And, with that, he turned and ran down the streets, this time actually looking out for obstacles. He turned down the next left street, then left again. He did this until he came in a full circle and he was behind Miss Mia. Then, he waited and watched patiently. He wanted to see what this lady was all about. He had nothing better to do anyways.

Mia watched the boy run off. She didn't pursue him. Instead she stood where she was. She opened her chakra to the feeling of the wind. She concentrated and felt the boy, through the wind current. He was coming back. She waited, and then when he came up behind her, she turned around. Tatsugira watched from the roof with a bit of an amazed expression. How did she know he would come back? He didn't know.

"So, Toshi. I can see determination in you. Do you really want me to teach you? I can teach you. I've seen your strength and you took a good beating." Mia Tsurugi asked Toshi. She was serious. She knew that with a little time, if this boy really had it in him, she could help him, on side of his academy training ofcourse.

Toshi had no idea how Mia had found him, he was bewildered. "It must be some special technique" he thought to himself. He stepped forward from his hiding spot behind a building and approached her. Then, he listened to her speak.

"So, Toshi. I can see determination in you. Do you really want me to teach you? I can teach you. I've seen your strength and you took a good beating."

To this, Toshi replied, proud. "Yes, Miss Mia, I really want you to teach me. I have a disadvantage in the academy already, and I promised myself I wouldn't fall behind." Then, Toshi awaited Mia's response with vigor. He needed this lady to teach him, or else he might end up the weakest in his class, and that could not happen. If this lady would not teach him, then he would have to go off and train on his own. And that could be dangerous.

Mia smiled a bit cruelly at Toshi, and she said, putting a hand on her hip, "Very well. Go clean yourself up, and take a rest. Tommorow after school you will go to the Black Star Dojo. I will be there waiting for you, and our training will begin." Said Mia Tsurugi. She smiled at Toshi, and she turned around, and walked down the street.

Tatsugira grumbled, a weakling like Toshi going to be trained. But then again, it was not really his buisness. After seeing her leave, he decided he would go as well. He needed his own training to do, out in the desert away from the Village, where he felt the most grueling pain.

Toshi was excited, and he left with gusto. It had been quite a while since had left last morning, and he decided it was almost time for dinner at home. Happily, he jogged home to a comfortable night and evening. He couldn't wait to see what this lady Mia would teach him.
