Zero walked into the village library, looking at all the various books and scrolls collected since the village first came into being. It was right after his earth training, and he was itching to learn a new technique. He fingered thru the various scrolls and books, trying to find a technique he could use. He stopped on a book called "Writting: A Ninja's Tool", but shrugged and continued looking. He found the scroll he was looking for, then with a smile turned to leave. But he stopped after taking a step, looking at the scroll with a guilty expression. If he took the scroll, it would almost be like stealing if something happened to it. He looked back at where he got the scroll, then set it back. He almost turned to leave a second time, when he noticed he didn't put the book he found all the way back in. He took it out, looking at the cover again and flipping it open to the first few pages. A smile slowly came to his lips, as he began to realize what he had in his hands. Chris was going to be so jealous. Zero found an empty table in the middle of the library, snagging a writting utensil and a blank piece of paper from a nearby bin. He opened up the book to the first page, and began to read how to create scrolls. He wrote tips on the piece of paper, laying out the steps in easier sentences as soon as he understood them. He filled three pages front and back with information from the book by closing time for the library, then took the pages and headed home to practice. For the next week, Zero took the notes and used some of his dad's blank scrolls to practice making jutsu scrolls described in the book. They wern't real scrolls, just some made up techniques the book suggested to help learn how to make them. He ruined almost all of them because he got the order mixed up at various points, but the last two almost had no big mistakes. He felt satisfied with his work, then went back to the library to read some more. He came home that night with another four pages of written material concerning scroll writting. This was the first time he was ever excited about actually writting, usually dragging his heels when it came to school work his mother forced on him. Now he understood why Chris wrote so much during the academy, it was a great way to learn techniques. Zero grabbed some more of the blank scrolls and began to practice some more. This was a more advance practice jutsu that the book described, this time using elements along with the seals and training to learn it. With the added element of elements, the order kept getting more and more confusing as Zero progressed thru the next two weeks. Each time he tried to correct one mistake, another would happen down the road. He was about to give up on the whole thing when he noticed something on the papers he brought from the library. Two words that seemed to jump from the page, words that he didn't even pay attention to when he wrote it. "Don't Panic". Zero took a deep breath, then began on a fresh scroll. He made it all the way thru without a single mistake, and he went over it a second time to make sure. He smiled at his success, then continued farther down so he wouldn't waste the paper. The first was a make believe fire technique, this was going to be a make believe water one. This required a different kind of writting, as well as a drawing of how the technique was to be performed. He took the words on the paper to heart, keeping himself calm as he finished off the scroll. One or two mistakes were in it, but much better than when he was panicing. He did two more of the water techniques on one of the blank scrolls, the last one being perfect without mistakes. He smiled, reading the notes to start the next step. During the fourth and fifth week Zero continued to make more and more complex scrolls, using the notes he took from the book at the library to improve himself. He already knew the basic understanding of writting, he had to to send messages back with the frogs that his clan sent to check up on him. But writing scrolls seemed to use a different style of writting, and it took him a while to get used to it. Once he got used to it though, it slowly became easier as he practiced. He came home on the sixth week with another mess of papers, placing them in order with his other papers to make it easier to understand. He took the books advice and started from the beginning, making the first scroll with little difficulty and moved onto the second. He repeated the process all the way till he got to the new stuff, using what he learned to build up steam to push on thru. He actually did very well, only making one mistake on the new scroll. He repeated the scroll, this time not making any mistakes as he focused. It was the last step in the book, and he did very well from his point of view. He rolled up the used scrolls and used them to further bury the scrolls from his clan. He placed the pieces of paper in a box, then headed back to the library to finish reading the book. The second half of the book described how to make several seals, including explosive tags and seal of burden. They looked very nice, and Zero was very eager to start making them. He first had to read how to prepare such seals, and again wrote notes on a seperate paper as soon as he understood them. He managed to get about two pieces of papers front and back of material. This was just the introduction, and he wanted to practice before he actually started to learn how to make real seals. Zero brough the pages home along with several blank pieces of paper to practice on since his father didn't have any blank seal paper. He began to read the papers he made and began work on creating the mock seals. The finished project looke donly half done, and he couldn't figure out how to add the second half. He looked at the papers a second time, and a third. It was only when he read the first few sentences of the second page that he began to understand what was wrong. He had the pages reversed. He placed a small number at the bottom of the page to indicate the numbered page, and he put them back in order. He began with a new piece of paper, throwing the used mistakes away so he wouldn't be confused. This time he made the seals correctly, following the steps in order to make a properly prepared seal. He looked at the sheet of seals that were prepared, the symbols of the actual seals ready to finish the seals. He took the next week making the seals, using both front and backs of the sheets to not waste space. He looked at the finished pieces of papers with a smile, a feeling of satisfaction that he completed them correctly by the end of the week. He put the paper on the corner of his table, then went to sleep sleep with a smile on his lips. He looked forward to returning to the library, and finally learning the various seals for creating things like the exploding tag that caught his attention at the beginning of the book. He spent all the next day writting out the instructions for the various seals, as well as the steps for creating them. He finished up three pages front and back of the steps, each with the steps needed to make exploding tags and other seals. He came home with a smile on his lips and the papers in his hands, ready to get to work and finish the work. He sat down at the table, ready to get to work and finish. He spent the next few weeks working on creating the various seals, working on one each week till he perfected it. It took him over three more weeks to finish all he learned from the book, a tired sigh on his lips as he leaned back from his finished page. He went thru the entire book, learning the symbols and writings needed to create scrolls and seals. And he was tired, mostly because he spent long hours of the night on several of the seals trying to perfect them. He leaned back on his chair, feeling completely satisfied that he learned how to create seals and scrolls without having to steal from the library. |
