Kenji knew war was coming. He may have been a tad bit naïve, but Kenji was no fool. Even if Heero had not instructed him to begin preparations for a grand mission soon approaching, Kenji knew what was about to take place. It was hard to ignore reports of hostile take-overs to the north. How could you not notice the paranoia in the commanding officer's eyes? Kenji knew it was coming, and was grateful he had taken the initiative and spent the past several months home in rigorous training. Constantly pushing his limits, he spent every waking moment training. He would reach the next level or die trying. He knew he was falling behind his fellow ninja, and that bothered him to no end. He was not about to allow Kurisu and Karei surpass him. Not a chance. He would strive to master his element and his strength. He would punch until he bruised, and he would kick until he would bleed. Nothing was going to stop him. He knew war was coming, and Kenji would be ready. Kenji had spend the last week specifically honing his physical endurance. He had brought in a log from outside, and he was determined to continue his assault on it until he pierced through it. It was a grudging task, but Kenji was not the type to let up any time soon. Every punch, every strike, every blow was meaningful. Every time Kenji let his fist fly, the ideal he strove for was brought back into mind. Every time his knuckles made contact, he knew that all the pain he was to endure was for the sake of a brighter, freedom filled tomorrow. Every moment was for the sake of his growing stronger in order to protect that which mattered most to him. And when it came to Kenji, he would be relentless in his efforts to achieve his goals. That was the kind of person Kenji was. |

All the while, not too far off was Siegfrid, the Metal Giant, toiling away at his anvil, taking out the stress of preparing so very much for what promised to be a very bloody war. He toiled away, reworking the damaged piece of armor of his ally until the patch of steel had been put on so well, only another craftsman would ever know it had been broken in the first place. Placing it into the large basin of water, he watched with slight satisfaction as a large burst of steam came forth and with it, a newly repaired piece of armor. Nodding, he replaced the shoulder-guard on the large table behind him, and picked up the next piece of equipment to be done. Examining it closely, he looked over the piece and then the note attached. He read it carefully, ensuring he made no mistake in his next order. Even though Siegfrid was now well versed in the art of conversation here in his new homeland, this style of writing still eluded him on occasion. Peering it over, he read it to himself slowly, his deep, almost gravelly voice trailing off as he murmured. "Sir Siegfrid, these are to be melted down and reforged into the following weapon and armor piece. Once finished, we will be returning them to Sir Kenji Isamu. It is understood that you are busy, but please be exceedingly careful with this piece. After all, Sir Isamu is one of the leading commanders within the Valley chain of command, and should his equipment fail him, we would all be hard-pressed. Thank you." Siegfrid feinted a chuckle at the note, knowing full well it had been written by Kenji himself. He could recognise the poorly made out hand-writing anywhere. Siegfrid had dealt with Kenji before. He was the headstrong kid with a wicked arm and that odd inherent power to control and manipulate water into a glass-like substance. Siegfrid remembered how the kid had also taken out the gate to mirage in the previous war in rage after the young Kappa kid had been killed by that devil sand kid. It was then that Siegfrid realised the awesome potential these easterners had when it came to the art of war. Of course, Siegfrid was nothing to over-look either. Sure, Siegfrid couldn't slam his hand into the ground and cause the earth to split, but he could cut a man clean in half with his sword, and for now, that was good enough for him. Looking over the metal bars, he figured he could easily forge the requested items. It would likely take more time than effort normally, but Siegfrid knew that this Kenji kid was expecting master-craft work. And for the amount that Kenji's brother in law was paying him, Siegfrid was happy to oblige. |

Kenji was near his goal. He could feel the slow and subtle yet steady improvement to his physical prowess, and it felt good. He was near the end now. Today would be the day he reached his current goal and broke through the log. It might have been done sooner had Kenji simply tried to pierce the wooden shaft, but Kenji wanted to ensure the training was about the fact of gaining power, not to be able to brag of piercing a wooden pole. The log was not only to be pierced. It was to have it's very middle part obliterated into nothingness by Kenji's efforts. "Ninety-six...ninety-seven...ninety...eight...ninety....whew...nine...okay, last one!" said Kenji, preparing for the final blow. The log teetered and swayed from the lack of support. Kenji rested one hand against it to ensure it would not break before he was granted his victory. Kenji had been counting his blows, although saying 'fourteen-thousand nine-hundred and sixty' had long since grown tiresome, so Kenji resigned to simply counting hundreds at a time. This would be the fifteenth hundred blow, and Kenji was eager to have the ordeal finally taken care of. Not that Kenji had not enjoyed the training, but rather his knuckles were growing so painful that it was beginning to exit his threshold. Taking a step back and aligning himself and the log, Kenji began to wind back his punch. This was to be an epic finish. But sadly, Epic was not on Kenji's side today. Just as Kenji was winding up, the log began to sway towards him. Without time to react, the log fell clean on Kenji's head, snapping like a twig over his hardened skull. Rubbing his goose-egg, Kenji said with a sigh "fifteen thousand..." and promptly passed out. |

Siegfrid began by seeking out the proper molds for the requested items. Luckily for Siegfrid, he had already constructed one for a chain, as well as plenty for kunai, and a suitable one for the requested armor. Once those were found, it was just a matter of getting it done. Siegfrid looked over to the forge. It was a rather large one with a great fire. Coals of all sorts as well as a number of sophisticated devices to deal with ideal temperature control. In this day and age, smithing had it's own share of science. No longer was it necessary for a large amount of fanning and pushing on a pump in order to raise the flames. A mere switch of the button and the machine did it for you. Siegfrid took the large steel objects and placed them within the melting pot. Siegfrid did not have to wait long: The steel was quick to melt. Not to waste time or risk having the steel be contaminated, he quickly fetched the appropriate molds and fitted them into the water basin. The second he was done, he hit the button on the side of the kiln and the now liquid steel was slowly dumped from the melting pot and into the system of tubes which led the liquid metal into the molds. Once all the metal was pressed into the molds and fitted properly, Siegfrid hit the switch allowing freezing cold water to be quickly raised into the basin. Steam rose up as though it was a geyser about to erupt. Siegfrid waited but a moment before hitting the switch once more to quickly lower the water, leaving the now red-hot yet solid objects left for Siegfrid's true work to begin. Siegfrid took the objects and placed them once more into the kiln, although this time it was not as hot as it had been moments before. Only hot enough to ensure their continual place within a solid and liquid state limbo. He decided to begin with kunai first, as it would require the most attention. Using ancient hammering techniques passed down through the Aurenhart family, he folded and refined the metal, slowly building on it's sharpness as well as it's durability. Siegfrid wiped the sweat from his heavy brow as he toiled over the burning hot piece of metal. The kunai was a tad bit longer than a traditional one. Much longer and far more sharp than the generic kunai shinobi commonly carried. This kunai could easily pierce the flesh and continue going. Siegfrid then added the requested hooks at the far end, enabling the weapon to double as both a grappling hook should it be required, or more importantly, as a form of demented lasso should it's wielder find it appropriate to bring the skewered opponent close enough for some really rough physical combat. Once the chain was attached, this masterly-crafted weapon would be something to fear on the battle-field, so long as the foe it sought was not in full armor. Putting the kunai aside to slowly cool down, Siegfrid began the slow, grudging process of interlinking the chain. It was to take a while, but it would be worth it. Seeing the look on Kenji's face when he saw the work Siegfrid had done. The feel of a flawless weapon. That was far more rewarding than any jutsu or swordsmanship mastery. To create is always better than to destroy. |

Kenji stood in darkness, not able to see, hear, feel anything. It was all around him, and he could not escape it. Suddenly, a bright flash, and he could see off in the distance a large crater. half cut away. Within the crater, he could see what seemed like a younger version of himself and some sort of beast. As he got closer, he realised it was himself fighting his brother all those years ago. He looked with fear and horror as the crater was expanded upon by the two Isamu brothers exchanging blows, most fruitless. Kenji could see the fear and exhaustion in his own, youthful eyes and knew what was to come, yet did not want to see it. He watched on, reciting the events through his words as it all took place, spoken with uncanny accuracy. "Right now...my brother will extent some form of claw and carve a hole where I was only a moment before. Next, I'll slide along the wall and use heaven's parting to try to slow him down, but to no avail. I can see it now, every blow we exchange happening before me. It's like watching a rerun on TV. Even though it's all happening before you, you know exactly what's going to happen. Kyo is going to try to skewer me, but I dodge him and he rams his hand through the wall...and then water starts to pour out. I soul-beat and he gets stuck, and..." said the young Isamu heir, watching with horror as his younger self exchanges words with his true brother, not the demon he sees now, and then drives his sword through his brother's head, killing him instantly. "...And then it's over. Just like that, the greatest Isamu ever known, corrupted by a devil in the shape of man, was slain. By one of his own blood, no less. Kenji felt a tear begin to form in his eye as he watched his dream-self bawl in agony while watching his brother's demented form return to normal. Kenji fell to his knees and pounded the ground, wondering where the justice was. At that moment, Kenji woke up in a flash, rising up from his prone position, breathing heavily. He could still feel the severed log on his leg where it had fallen, the other half a few inches from his head. Shaking his head slowly as he rubbed his goose-egg, he attempted to remove any thought which remained from his dream. This was not the time for such things. |

(OOC: Sorry if this post seems to lack effort, I had a big 5 paragraph one written out and it ninja-vanished on me somehow.) Siegfrid had finally completed the ten foot long chain, with the kunai and weight on either side, it was a sound, if not unorthodox weapon. He looked down on it with a hint of satisfaction, knowing the young Isamu warrior would be quite pleased with his work. Placing the completed weapon aside, Siegfrid quickly remembered the metal plates which were to be fashioned into Kenji's gauntlets. Taking one from the forge, he then placed it on the anvil and began to hammer away, instilling his own strength within the steel with every blow. Sweat poured out from his body as he toiled away on the small soon to be armor fragment. When he was finally finished, he quickly moved to the next piece. Siegfrid was not one to lose momentum, swordplay or not. When at last the final piece was done some sixty minutes later, Siegfrid sighed with content relief. At last, the hard work was done. All that was left was to attach the armor plates to the leather gloves provided by Kenji. Siegfrid took his time, ensuring his work was flawless, as such was Siegfrid's practice. When at last the final piece was in place, it was indeed as ordained: Flawless. Siegfrid sat back for a moment in relief. For the first time in a long time, Siegfrid took pleasure in knowing he had done a good job, and that he had something more to be proud of than as simply a soldier. Siegfrid was proud he could do more than simply destroy. Now, he could create as well. |

The following day Kenji was surprised when a knock on his door revealed a delivery from the Black Winds. He was amazed the work had been completed so quickly, and when he opened the package, he was even more astounded by the craftsmanship. Bidding the young Black Winds' trainee goodbye, he quickly dawned his new equipment and went to training. He was soon to be ready for this war. He was now more than ready. Fin~ |
