It was a normal desert day. The endless sea of sand was flooded by the intense heat and light from the sun, high in the sky. Harutomo shielded his eyes from the stinging light with his hair as he absorbed the energy of the outside. He loved his home, there was no other place like it. It was a very hot day, so Harutomo cast off his Chuunin vest, revealing a white shirt underneath. It had short sleeves, so as to make sure that Harutomo was kept cool in the desert sun. As he moved leisurely to the Market, to grab some lunch, Harutomo saw something out of the corner of his eye. It was an odd looking man. He was obviously not from the desert, as anyone could tell, because of his lack of a tan, and red sunburns all over his face. Not only that, but his physique was slim and unmuscular, marking that he was obviously an intellectual type. His curiosiy got the best of him, and Harutomo approached.

As he got closer, he heard the man rambling on about desert monsters and elemental beings. Harutomo laughed and approached with a smile. As soon as Harutomo was about three yards from the man, he stopped and immediately raised his right hand, pointing at Harutomo. Haru reacted by rolling to the side instinctively and reaching for his fan. Then he remembered it was not there, along with all of his other weapons. With a sigh, Harutomo realised after a few awkward moments that the man was motioning for him to approach. Haru cautiously approached the man, and when he was close enough, shook hands with him. The man smiled, and Harutomo opened his mouth to speak. Immediately, though, the man cut him off and began to speak.

"I don't know if you can tell, young man, but I am not a native to this land. I am a researcher, from the great city of Tera. No one has ever actually gone through this desert of yours to catagorize and study its monsters. That is what I plan to do. I will pay you heartily, if you guide, protect, and keep me safe through my journey." The man croaked. Harutomo thought for a moment, then. He could use the money, and he had the entire day free, so he decided that it was a good idea. He turned to the man, and answered with a quick nod. The man's face glistened in a smile, as Harutomo led him to the desert, outside of the village. Harutomo was actually happy to lead this man about the desert. He got to show a man the beautiful desert that so many others feared, as well as he got paid some money. That was a big bonus.

As he led the man outside of the village, Harutomo turned to him and asked him where he wanted to go first. He smiled, and politely answered, "Well, I was thinking we could make this take four days. Each day, you would show me a new area of the Mirage Desert. First the village outskirts, then the Old Temple Ruins, then the cactus field, and finally the large Oasis. That way, I get to observe each area of the Mirage." Harutomo nodded, and lead him to the large sand dunes outside of the Mirage Village walls. As they continued to walk that way, Haru noticed the large backpack the man was wearing, and shouldered it to releive the old man, acting beyond his limits by coming here and trusting a random ninja. Who knows, maybe he had seen something in Harutomo, and that was why he had chosen him out of the crowd...

Haru and the man continued for a while, Haru simply following the man as he stumbled about in the shifting sands. He stopped and bent over every other second, to observe the mysterious contents of the desert. Haru waited in silence for him to carry on, and silently monitered the area. After an hour or so of the monotony, Haru spotted something upon the horizon. It was a figure cloaked in black. Not exactly the smartest thing to do in the desert, especially on a day like this. Haru tapped the old researcher upon the shoulder, and he looked upon the figure. He immediately gasped in fright, and turned to Haru. "Young ninja, those bandits have been following me from the beginning of my journey. There should be three more. Please protect me! Or should we flee?" He panicked.

Haru let out a sigh, and rolled his shoulder. The old man's pack fell to the ground as Harutomo scoped out the situation. He saw one to the north, one to the east, and one to the west. To the sout was the Mirage Village, but the gate was far to the southeast. He had no choice, but to fight. Soon enough, one bandit let out a loud cry. Haru looked for the source, and it was from above. The bandit leapt from a nearby tree, a disgustingly curved and jagged sword gripped in his hands. Haru motioned the Old Man to safety, while assuming a defensive situation. If he could dispatch this foe before the others arrived, there would be a chance of getting out without harm to himself or the old man. As the bandit soared at Harutomo, time slowed as he quickly formed hand seals. Rooster, Rabbit, Dragon. The seals flashed in the bandit's eyes, and then Haru placed his hands in front of him, palms facing each other, and with some room in between. A gust of wind surged through the space between the hands, like a flood through an opened flood gate, and they blew at the bandit. The powerful winds hit him square in the chest, knocking him backwards. Haru imagined that the enemy would be stunned for only a short period as he fell to the ground, and just as he smacked against the unyeilding sand, Haru lept upon him.

Haru gloriously landed upon the bandit, and immediately gathered chakra to his hand and msutered all of the strength he had, and struck the bandit straight in the stomach. The air was knocked out of him, and he gasped for breath and his gasps were ragged with pain. A few seconds after the initial hit, Haru released a small amount of chakra, and a wind surged down and struck at the bandit's stomach as well. He reeled in pain again, and Haru stood up. He figured this guy was about to pass out. His face was pale, and his breathing was way too shallow to be healthy anymore. But, out of the corner of his eye, Haru saw that the three remaining bandits had formed together, and continually approached from the north. Haru looked for the old man, and snatched him up to place him behind the tree, a safer place. It was then that Haru saw that each bandit had two weapons. Each had a bow, and a few arrows, as well as an extra weapon. One had another jagged sword. Another had a nasty axe. The final one, and the one that was in the middle, had a full fledged katana. They all took aim with their bows, and launched off a volley. Haru rushed to save himself from the projectiles.

Haru swiftly calculated their decent, and with an estimate in mind, he knew how to avoid all three arrows without too much chakra exertion. Of course, they were already too close to move away, so Haru quickly assumed a ready stance, and when they had closed half of the distance, a great wind picked up, throwing most of the arrows off course. Haru was to blaim for this great gust, but he still had more to worry about. He watched the one last arrow come near, and quickly punched forwards right before it came. When it did finally come in to strike Haru, the wind gust, consequence of Haru's taijutsu style, knocked it away from Haru, harmlessly. When the wind ninja finally looked up at the bandits, they were running. They had dropped their bows and arrows, and now had their weapons in hands. Haru prepared himself, and quickly created three storm clones. They fizzled into reality, creations of pure energy and wind. Haru pointed at the three bandits, and immediately, the clones ran off, to engage their foes. Meanwhile, Haru followed behind his small strike force., planning to finish off whatever the clones could not. That would most likely be all three of the bandits, but the clones could easily damage and disorient the foes before Haru approached.

In a mighty clash of steel and wind, both forces tore at the sand, creating chaos in the normally eerily calm desert. All three valiant storm clones plunged their bodies head first into the steel of the bandits. The clones exploded, turning into whirling cyclones if intense strength. They blew back all of the foes, and left a calm scene before Haru. The amazing wind ninja saw his opportunity, gracefully sweeping his hand to his pockets, to snatch three kunai from his packs. When his hand met now cloth, and no steel. Haru paled. He realized he had no weapons with him. Quick and desperate, Haru took to the skies with an intense leap, and planted his foot into the gut of the bandit with the jagged sword. He looked up for a second, the air knocked from him; then his eyes rolled back, and his muscles relaxed into a comfortable slumber. Haru then rolled to the side, away from the remainingly dangerous bandits, and then recomposed himself. He watched them closely, and did not move from his ready stance.

Like three statues, they watched each other, obseved each other, in silence. Until, like a scorpion, the axe weilding bandit thrust himself forwards, his heavy ave following close behind. He swiftly moved from side to side, zig-zagging his way to Haru. The Mirage Chuunin, with no time to prepare, simply enacted the simplest action; he struck back. Hard. With one graceful movement, Haru pivoted himself, and took that momentum through his arm, to his knuckles, and into the bandit's face. He stumbled back, dazed. Haru had no doubt that the stars were spinning 'round his little tiny brain, but he had to end the poor fellow's confusion, with a swift gust that surged at the impact zone where Haru had punched the poor fellow. Another one, prey to the Sakakida Fist. The gust, focused and concentrated, knocked him flat on his back, gasping for air, and struggling to keep his eyes from crossing. Haru looked up, to see the final bandit eyeing him, his thirsty blade held in both hands. Haru had no weapons, but he still knew that this was more than an even battle for him. This man had restricted himself to a weapon that he must always hold, always use with his hands. Haru had a tool that require only his thoughts to deliver the most punishing of blows. Haru had the wind.

The wind ninja kept his eyes on his foe, as Haru prepared himself. He expected this man to attack first, and so he was ready to get his ass out of there. After a few seconds, the enemy slowly raised his katana high up into the air. He brandished the glistening steel high above his head, ready to bring it down and bring the pain. The bandit charged forward, and Haru's eyes twinkled with a plan. He made the seals Dragon, Rooster, Tiger, then Bird, instantly in front of him. He then exported his chakra, and four small cyclones formed in each direction of the foe. He charged forward, foolish, and Haru rolled to the left. Then, all four cyclones rushed forward speedily. That man had triggered Haru's trap, and now he would most deffinitely pay. Haru had been perfecting this jutsu for a long time, and finally, to see it work, he was extremely proud. The winds smacked into the poor bandit, shredding his clothing, and crushing him between the swirling energies.

He cried out in agony, and then the winds dissipated. He was left, a broken doll, on he ground. Haru grimaced as he saw the awkward positions that the man was in, and saw many of his parts bent bakwards and out of place. Haru sighed, letting out all of the excitement from the battle in a single rush. He turned around, looking for the old man he had told to hide. Haru hoped he had been fine, but there was no sign of the man. He was not there. Haru searched and searched, yet found nothing. He eventually gave up and headed back to the village, but he could not help but wonder if that had been all a plan, between the bandits and the man, or if he had just ran off in fear. Haru would never know, because if he asked around the village, no one would know about the man. If he continued his search, he would find no sign that he had ever existed. Quite the mystery, it was, but Haru was exhausted from using all of his chakra, and so he headed directly home to pass out on his bed, and rest himself. Tomorow, no doubt, would be just as action packed.
