Name: Sabaku, Tetsuya Gender: Female Age: 16 Clan: Sabaku Village: Mirage Preferred Jutsu Type: Bloodline Personality: Tetsuya is a quiet, morose, and very introverted girl. She dislikes large crowds, finding them too noisy for her taste, preferring to be alone, either training or reading or doing something else worthwhile. She also hates wasting time, thinking that you should always be doing some productive at all times and that no time should be wasted on anything trivial. She hates most things, either finding them annoying or just literally unbearable to be around, such as people who annoy her and especially those who make her mad. In short, she hates anyone and anything that either annoys her or gets in her way, though she does try to keep this from happening by avoiding people all together. She is not afraid to kill, sometimes enjoying spilling the blood of enemies, though she tries not to allow it to get out of hand. To her, allowing such things as emotions to get in the way is stupid and utterly ridiculous and can only lead one to trouble. She is always in control of her emotions, keeping them locked away behind a mask devoid of emotion. This does not mean she doesn’t feel it; she just refuses to show it, thinking that it will annoy those around her for seeing her affected in such a way. After the disappearance of her father, she is often not at home. The desert has become her sanctuary from the world, and she sometimes searches for him, hoping to find him amongst the dunes in whatever shape he might be. Deep in her heart is a lost child searching for its parent, desperately clinging to the hope that he is alive, though the mind tells the heart a completely different story. Appearance: Tetsuya despises looking in the mirror for any reason whatsoever because she knows that she looks good. She does not need the assurance that some people need when they look at their reflection, so she will not look no matter what the reason. If she did ever look, she would find that she is indeed a lovely young girl. She stands at the height of 5’7’’, looking down on many girls who are small and petite in size, and she has a slim, well endowed build (105lbs) that is quite the eye catcher. She is muscled and well toned, though she does not work out much, finding that if she works more with her bloodline, she won’t need to be strong physically. She has long, spiky, jet black hair that falls down to her waist, haloing a pale, angry face that is adorned with a pair of harsh and forbidding aquamarine eyes that are ringed with black, a trademark of the Sabaku clan. She does not smile, ever, and can often be found training or sleeping. Her face does, however, have a sense of character, as though she might have been a kind person long ago. Her basic outfit consists of a black, strapless dress that stops just below her thighs, leaving her legs for the world to see. At her waist is a white ribbon that goes around her waist, tying into a neat but discreet bow. On each of her arms are makeshift sleeves, which hang down below her wrists slightly, and both of them revealing a little bit of her skin at the top of them because of the netting that is there. On her right thigh, she has her small pouch filled with her basic ninja tools, such as kunai and shuriken. On her legs she has black leggings that stop just before her knees, going all the way down and tucking into her ninja sandals. Strapped to her back is the gourd that holds many pounds worth of sand, which she can manipulate at will thanks to her bloodline ability. The only other adornment is her ninja headband which is tied around her neck, showing off the sign for the Village Hidden in the Mirage. The only thing that mars her appearance is a thin scar that traverses her face. Its start point is just above left eye, goes across the bridge of her nose, and stops just underneath her right eye. It is obviously old, something that occurred during her childhood. Money: 100 Yen Personal Status Rank: Genin Chakra: 50 Mental: Charisma: 3 Intellect: 15 Will-Power: 5 Physical: Strength: 5 Stamina: 10 Agility: 6 Skills: Ninjutsu: 10 Genjutsu: 0 Taijutsu: 0 Summoning: 0 Sealing: 7 Medical Practice: 0 Weapon Practice: Sword Skill: 0 Axe/Hammer Skill: 0 Fan Skill: 0 Pole-arm Skill: 0 Instrument Skill: 0 Armor Skill: 0 Shield Skill: 0 Ninja Skill: 0 Jutsu Types: Fire: 0 Water: 0 Earth: 0 Wind: 0 Dark: 0 Light: 0 Ice: 0 Thunder: 0 Sound: 0 Sand: 20 Plant: 0 Bloodline: 25 Known Jutsu Ninjutsu Suna No Yoroi (Armor of Sand) Description/Seals: [Ram, Dragon, Boar]. This jutsu uses chakra to cover the user with a thin, but very dense, layer of protective sand. While a good defense, it puts an unignorable burden on the user's stamina, both through chakra absorption and the fact that the sand makes them heavier and hampers their movement. Requirements: Sand 10, Bloodline 10 Effect: Blocks great deals of damage, but cuts Stamina and Agility down to half. Cost: 15 every time used Sand Shield Description/Seal: [Bird, Tiger]. The sand rushes towards the user and creates a barrier around them. Capable of withstanding considerably strong attacks and projectiles, this sand shield can become stronger than steel. Avoiding it completely with extremely high-speed attacks, or merely overcoming the shield with incredible brute force can defeat it. Requirements: Sand 10, Bloodline 10 Cost: 5 Third Eye Description/Seals: [None, Focus] The user of this Jutsu creates an eye made of sand that is connected directly to the user's optic nerve. The eye can then disperse into sand and reform elsewhere for spying and surveillance purposes. The difference between this eye and the user's regular eyes, is that this eye follows movement based on the user's sand and bloodline stats rather than the user's agility stat. Therefore, if the user's bloodline and sand is higher than their agility, third eye will make it easier for them to follow movement. The Third Eye can travel up to 20 meters in any direction away from the user. Requirements: 15 Bloodline and 15 Sand Cost: 3 Chakra per post used. Desert Imperial Funeral Description /Seal: [Tiger, Dragon, Bird, Boar] The user slams both hands palm down into the sand and emits powerful shockwaves that compact and greatly damage anything within the sand-covered area. Considering that the previous jutsu levels an entire forest, its soul purpose is to send debris along with the foe flying. The foe can be damaged by debris caught in the jutsu and ultimately if no escape is found the foe can be slammed into something solid with the force of a small automobile accident! Requirements: Sand 20, Bloodline 25 Cost: 15 Genjutsu None Taijutsu None Medical Jutsu None Summoning Jutsu None Weapon Jutsu None Bloodline Limit Shield of Sabaku: Description: [Natural] A sort of double-edge sword, this amazing Bloodline Limit allows the user to control and manipulate sand around him. The sand acts on its own accord spiraling around the user at high speeds, deflecting all light weaponry and most Taijutsu, Heavy weaponry are slowed down considerable. Although the limit is quite powerful it comes with a cost if not monitored the user could easily run out of chakra in a battle especially if other jutsu are preformed through out the battle. Requirements: 10 Bloodline and 10 Sand Effect: When activated, A portion of sand automatically blocks attacks and reduces the damage. Light Weapons are easily deflected. Cost: Four every post used. Sand Manipulation Description: [Focus] The user possesses the ability to control all sands, whether it is drawing it in to surround him/her or sending it rushing at an object or opponent in a tidal wave. Of course this limit is limited by the source of sand it could prove quite powerful in the desert but produce little to nothing if in moist area or another area where sand is not located. The user can target and send a wave of sand at a foe from above it can even be deployed from below as long as the sand covers the area where the target is located. Requirements: 20 Bloodline and 10 Sand Effect: Allows the member to control the movement of Sand. At Twenty, one can merely move it in small masses, but someone at 200 Bloodline could create a devastating Sand Storm that could cover an entire city in moments. Cost: 1 Every use. Sand Creation Description: [Focus] The user is blessed with the ability to use the minerals in the ground and air to create grains of sand; the users level and the mineral source in the environment only limit the jutsu. Requirements: 25 Bloodline, 10 Sand Effect: By grounding up the earth underneath or by pulling small parts of sand from the air, one can create a small potion of sand around them. Cost: None Abilities Summon Chakra Description/Seals: [Focus, Tiger] One of the few abilities that requires a seal for concentration. This Ability increases your max Chakra by a set amount. Depending on your Stamina you can summon a load of chakra. For every five stamina you have you can summon two extra chakra points by focusing on it. You're forced to hold the seal of the tiger and focus on it to summon the chakra. The Chakra you summon stays with you in the thread until you use it. A quicker way to use it is to just use the seal of the tiger in front of the seals of a move you are currently using. Although, you must pause for a moment when you hold the seal of the tiger. Say you have ten Stamina you would be able to summon five Chakra., if you summon all of your spare chakra you are drained of your stamina and cannot fight very easily anymore. So using this is for large Jutsu's or for last resort. Requirements: Willpower- 5 Stamina- 5 Intelligence- 5 Effect: Summons Chakra. one Chakra every two stamina. Cost: None Equipment/Items Weapon Inventory Kunai X10 Description: Light Throwing Daggers Effect: None Weight: Light Type: Iron Throwing Stars X10 Description: Projectiles with sharp edges all around. Effect: None Weight: Light Type: Iron Armor/Clothing (Do NOT edit this in ANY way) Normal Clothing Description: The normal Clothes the character wore in the description. Effect: None Weight: Light Type: None Items Gourd- a large clay container made of hardened sand that holds a large amount of sand inside, sealed with her own chakra. Effect: allows the user to employ sand justu while using the sand held in the container. History Desert Rose A young, ragged woman was wandering across the desert. The giant, burning disk that was the sun shined down harshly upon her head, sapping her gradually fading strength. Her water had run out not too long ago, and she knew that now it was gone, she did not have a lot of time left. Soon she would become too weak to move and she would pass out from exhaustion. Then the animals that inhabited the desert would do what they did best. It was not a bright prospect, but she knew there was no likelihood of finding help in this endless wasteland of sand dunes. Soon, she would die. And there was nothing she could do about it except keep going and hope that a miracle would happen. Suddenly, in the distant, she saw a figure dressed in black making a steady approach. She shook her head firmly, knowing that it could not be a person. It had to be her imagination; a mirage, or a hallucination. A person would not be out in this deep of a desert. Then again, why was she? That was a long story. She had been with her parents, searching for archaeological findings in the deep desert when the nightmare began. They had been curious of what had gone on before the Hidden Village’s sprang up and what civilization was like then. The desert seemed to hold many clues, so they began their search for the history of the world here. It had gone well at first, until they realized they had not brought enough water. The young woman had told them that they did not know how much water one needed to consume in a day, but neither of them had listened, believing they had enough. How wrong they were. Within a week, they had run out, and all of them were suffering from dehydration and the intense heat. It didn’t take long before her parents died, leaving her alone in this godforsaken place. Now she wandered, awaiting death to take her. And now the desert wanted to torment her so! Giving her that false sense of hope! Growling irritably, she continued to stumble along, before losing her footing and collapsing to the ground. Lying there, she struggled to rise, nearly making it before falling back down once again, going still. The sun beat down on her, suffocating her as she fought to live, before finally the darkness claimed her. Just as everything went black, she felt someone lift her from the ground, holding her in their arms. A pair of beautiful, aqua colored eyes came into her vision before everything faded away. The one who held her studied her carefully, curious as to why she was out here in the desert alone as she was. Picking her up gently, he hoisted her into his arms and carried her away from there, making his way back to his home in the Village Hidden in the Mirage. The girl must have walked far, he thought, noting her condition. She was covered in dirt and her clothes were stained. Her lips were dry and her hands were rough. He wondered where she had come from, but now was not the time. However, he noted how beautiful she was despite how bad she looked now. Underneath all of that she must be a pretty girl. She reminded him of a desert flower, an enduring one. A desert rose. The walk was not at all long (to him, anyway), and soon he was inside the door of his modest home on the outskirts of the Village Hidden in the Mirage. Sliding the door shut carefully with his foot, he made his way deeper into the house, carrying the unconscious woman to his bedroom. Laying her down on the bed, he found himself wondering what to do now, before he noted the state of her clothes. He reddened just slightly. Should he change them? Leaving the room, he went into another, a somewhat smaller room, before rummaging through the drawer and pulling out a small robe. This should do for now. Returning to his room, he removed her clothes slowly, trying to do so in a most gentlemanly manner that he could. Finally, he managed to get her in the robe, tying it quickly in the front. He watched her a moment. A moment later he left the room, leaving her alone. Hours passed, and she finally awakened once the sun had begun to set. Her eyes snapped open and she sat upright like lightning, staring around her wide-eyed. She was in a large bedroom, obviously whoever lived in it wasn’t one for decorations as the room was nearly bare, excluding the drawers to hold clothes in and a table nearby. She lay on a simple futon, covered in a blanket. Sitting up completely now, she rose to her feet, wondering where her clothes were as she was wearing a robe instead. It was then that a cold voice fluttered through her ears, leaving her speechless. She turned to face the source, finding herself looking at a tall young man. He had pitch black hair that fell into a pair of intense, aqua eyes that seem to bore into her soul. “...Finally, you’re awake.” said the stranger, watching her from his lone corner in the room. “…ah, who are you?” she asked, stuttering slightly. He stared at her, as though hesitating slightly before replying. He approached her now. “My name is, Sabaku Tatsushiro.” he replied, his voice cold. “What is your’s?” “I am…Masago.” she said simply. “I have no other name.” “I saved you. Be grateful. You were nearly dead.” Masago’s eyes widened. “You saved me? I…I thank you!” She bowed slightly out of respect, wondering what was going to happen now. “There is a pitcher of water on the table. Take what you like of it.” said Tatsushiro, not even acknowledging her thank you. “Get some sleep. I’ll see you in the morning.” Once he had finished speaking, he turned and left the room, shutting the door quietly behind him. Masago stared after him. Was this how it was going to be? Sighing, she walked over to the pitcher, poured herself a cup full and took a drink. That tasted good after having had no water for many days. Finishing her drink, she walked back over to the futon, climbing back under the covers and falling into a blissful and peaceful sleep. Tatsushiro watched her through a crack in the door, his eyes narrow. The months passed, turning into years, and Masago did not leave the lone Sabaku as he had originally thought. She liked him very well, and it wasn’t like she had anywhere else to go. He didn’t mind her being there at all. In fact, he privately enjoyed her company, so he allowed her to stay with him as long as she wished. However, he told her to stay away from him during the full moon. He did not explain. He merely told her to stay away from him. Masago didn’t understand. And one night, she decided to find out why. The moon was full. The previous day, Tatsushiro had told her that on no certain terms was she to come into his room. She was in one of the guest rooms now, having managed to recover enough. Slipping out her room, she slipped through the hallway quietly, making her way toward the young man’s room. Reaching his door, she slid it open just slightly. What she saw was as normal as it could be. He lay on the futon in the room, sleeping, his back to her. Masago stood there, brow furrowed in wonder. She was still curious, so she stepped inside, sliding the door shut silently behind her. As soon as she was inside, she felt tentacles of sand wrap around her, immobilizing her before she could even react. Frozen in fear, she was Tatsushiro rose from his bed and began to head toward her. Pinned as she was, she was unable to move, and all she could was plead with him to let her go. “Tatsushiro-san, listen to me!” she pleaded, trying to get him to snap out of it. “…I warned you.” And what happened next was beyond what she imagined. She was appalled and enraged at what had occurred. Tatsushiro had always been kind to her, and yet here he was raping her harshly and completely unbridled. Yes, he had warned her, but this was too much for her to handle. She screamed and yelled at him to stop, yet it went on and on, for hour upon countless hour, until the Sabaku had finally sated himself completely. Collapsing from exhaustion on top of her, Tatsushiro fell into a deep, and rather content sleep. Masago, meanwhile, was sobbing quietly and uncontrollably, having had her virginity ripped away from her in such a fashion. Managing to push him off of her with her waning strength, she backed away from him, grabbing what was left of her torn clothes and running from the room. Cleaning herself up, she pulled her clothes on quickly, still crying uncontrollably from the ordeal before running out of Tatsushiro’s house and into the desert. Since she had been with the Sabaku so long, she had learned the ways of the desert from him, so she knew where to find the oases that were located throughout the desert. Thanks to him, she had also learned how to find food as well. Because of him, she would have everything she needed. She would thank him for that. How she hated him though! She didn’t understand what had happened. She was in complete and utter shock. Tears still pouring down her cheeks, Masago ran far away into the deep desert, hoping never to be found or seen again. Especially by Sabaku Tatsushiro. As the sun began to rise, Tatsushiro awakened to find himself naked and very alone in his room. He was sure someone had been with him. But…oh no, Masago! It had been her! Rising from his bed, he quickly and efficiently dressed himself before hurrying around the house searching for her. Finding that she was gone, he searched the village and the outskirts, before noting the fading footprints of a person heading deep into the desert. He cursed, punching the ground hard and sending a rippling wave of sand flying outward. Damnit! This was his entire fault! If he had just taken more precautions this would not have happened! He didn’t like to admit it, but he had come to love that girl. Now she was gone from him forever. “…I suppose a desert rose must always remain in the desert.” Child of the Desert Masago had wandered far into the desert once again, surviving on all that could be found in the desert wasteland. She had finally come to a grouping of distant caves, deciding that she would live there for the rest of her days. What she never counted on was the coming pregnancy and birth of the child that she would have by Tatsushiro. When she realized she was pregnant, she was terribly angry and enraged, and possibly even more upset. She knew that the child would be just like her father. A freak, and a monster and she was hell bent on merely killing the child and forgetting that the rape had ever occurred. The thought was always on her mind, eating away her, and practically had the knife in her hand as soon as the contractions started on the day of her pregnancy. She would give birth to it on her own, and then kill it. No one would ever know, especially the child’s father. Thus, Sabaku Tetsuya (though this would not be her name for many years) was brought into the world, hated by the only parent she would know for the first five years of her life. She was a small, frail, child with spiky black hair and beautiful aquamarine eyes; the exact counterpart of her father in everyway. There was hardly a trace of Masago in little Tetsuya at all. Much to her mother’s rage. The little brat looked exactly like her monster of a father in everyway. She had been about to kill her, when she decided to keep her alive. Even thought Tatsushiro would never know of the existence of this child, she would make sure that it suffer for his crime. He should have never done what he had done. Then this would not be happening, would it? Using this twisted logic, Masago made to torment her daughter in everyway that she could think of and imagine. Her suffering was like a drug to her. The ordeal had caused Masago to go mad and she made sure that her daughter suffered and screamed. She didn’t even give her name, merely saying, “You! Come here!” This went on so long that she eventually began to think that ‘You’ was her name. This was here life; she knew nothing else. She beat her daughter, starved her, refused to give her water, and even slashed her across the face with a rock when she began to scream, leaving her scarred for life. For years this torture went on, making little Tetsuya angry, and bitter, making her hate her mother more than anything else in the world. At one point, the poor girl tried to run away into the desert, though she didn’t make it far. Her mother caught her before she could too far. As a punishment, her mother broke one of her legs. Luckily, Tetsuya managed to remain still long enough for it to be heal, though she never attempted to runaway again. However, the injuries didn’t stop there. Her mother broke her arm when she got angry and tried to hit her. She busted her jaw one time when she back talked her (she was five at that time). Masago did not take anything from her terrible daughter and would not hesitate to hurt her to teach her a ‘lesson’. For the first five years of her life this went on, until finally, the little girl had had enough. Her mother had been attempting to goad her into a fight, so that this would give her an excuse to hit her as always. This day had been worse than the others for some reason. Her mother had been harder on her, and she badly bruised from the continuous abuse. “I hate you.” said the little girl suddenly, glaring at her mother. “What did you say, brat?” snarled her mother. “I HATE YOU!” BAM! With a loud crack, her mother attempted to slap her. That is, until a wall of sand shot up, blocking the attack. Her mother stood wide-eyed, watching the sands swirl around her small daughter, seeing her daughter’s eyes glow red with unbridled hatred and rage that emanated from her in waves. The sand flew forward quickly, immobilizing Masago for the second time in her life. She struggled and fought, screeching in rage at her daughter to let her go. “Damn you! Let me down, now!” she yelled, continuing to try and get her way loose from the sand that held her. “Die.” The sand moved fast, covering her mother’s face, cutting off the air to her lungs and leaving her to suffocate. After what felt like an eternity, the sand pulled away from her mother, dropping her to the floor where she lay lifeless, her eyes glassily staring at the sky. The little girl stared at her now dead mother, not feeling anything. She was only numb to the fact that she had somehow killed her mother. A power had flown through her suddenly, and enhanced by her feelings and emotions, it had awakened and done her will. She didn’t think she would ever understand how she did it, but that didn’t matter anymore. She was free to leave her evil mother forever. However, before she knew it, hot tears were rolling down her cheeks and falling to the dusty floor of the cave. Holding her arms to her chest, she rocked back and forth on the balls of her feet, sobbing now. “I’m sorry! I’m so sorry, mother!” said Tetsuya over and over. “I couldn’t stand the pain anymore. It had to end, it had to end, it had to end…!” Hours passed and the little girl had cried so hard she was hoarse. Unable to stay there anymore, the girl rose and walked away, wandering into the endless dunes. Maybe she would die out here and the sand would cover her, allowing her to never be found. She could rest in their warm embrace forever. That would be so nice. Walking through the desert, she wandered away and into the unknown. Meanwhile, miles away, Tatsushiro felt the surge of strength, marveling at the possibilities it had and the potential. What felt strange about it was how familiar it was. It felt as though it were a part of him. He found himself curious about it, and he still noted the power pouring off of whoever it belonged to, as they obviously could not mask or hide it. This meant they were young and inexperienced. Rising from where he sat in his home, Tatsushiro made his way out of the house and deep into the desert. He had to find this person, just to see who it was. He recognized them. And he wanted to know who they were. The walk was long where he was going, and he did note that it was in the direction that Masago had run to when she had left. After she had left, he had grieved for her, his beautiful desert rose. But he knew she hated him and would have nothing to do with him. So his hopes of finding her and reconciling with her were hopeless. But what was this other presence? It did not take him long to find the source. Tetsuya had wandered over many days, finally coming close to where the Village Hidden in the Mirage was located, though she was not aware of it. She had found ways to survive thanks to observing her mother while in the desert, so she knew where to find water and food. But the sun was beginning to get to her and she was going to pass out from heat exhaustion soon if she didn’t slow her pace. She didn’t see the point of it though. It wasn’t like she had a purpose or a place to go. No one cared about her and she could die out here and no one would ever know it. It was at that moment, she happened to look up and see Tatsushiro standing some distance away from her. She stared at him in wonder, glaring at him dangerously. “Who are you!?” she snarled, feeling threatened. Tatsushiro stared at the pitiful child before him. She was frail and thin, looking as though she had not had a proper meal in days. Her black hair hanged unkempt in her face, scarcely hiding her aquamarine eyes that were ringed with black. His eyes widened in shock and surprise, noticing the resemblance between them. “I am…Sabaku Tatsushiro.” he answered finally, studying her. The only thing he could come up with would be that Masago had had a child by him. Judging by the child’s condition, she had not had an easy life. Obviously, Masago had not been kind or loving to their daughter, which hurt him. “…so you’re my father!” she yelled, eyes flashing dangerously. “You’re the reason mother hated me so much!” She remembered her mother ranting about him, the man who had raped her and helped bring Tetsuya into the world. Because of him, her mother hated him, and she hated him too. So his assumption had been correct. Masago had brought this child into the world and made her hate him. And she had mistreated her for her entire life as well. And remembering the surge of power he had felt, his little daughter had taken care of Masago for good. It saddened him to think that she was dead, but he knew that the little girl had felt as though she had had no choice. “Yes…I am.” said Tatsushiro, giving her a look of warning that told her to be silent. “But you must allow to me explain what happened.” The young girl glared at him, but was quiet as he explained everything to her. He told her how the two had met in the desert, and how he had saved her from death by bringing her to his home. He told her of how they lived together for many years, finding happiness with one another. And he told her of the fated night when he had lost control of himself and taken her mother and how she had run away from him into the desert. The girl remained quiet, finding his words to be far more truthful than her mothers’. She had said that he had done it on purpose, luring her and gaining her trust. She had called him a monster and fiend, yet she saw no beast before her. Just a man who had honestly loved her mother and had felt badly for what had happened all those years ago. He had always regretted it; desperately wishing that he could have done something to prevent what had happened. And because of his carelessness, Masago had paid a price far too dear. “Come with me, little one.” said her father, stretching out a hand. “Let me take you home.” “Don’t call me little one.” she muttered, looking away. “It’s annoying.” “Then what do you want me to call you?” he asked. “I don’t know, but don’t call me little!” “I’ll call you Tetsuya. Sabaku Tetsuya.” said Tatsushiro, picking her up and making his way home once again. This was the second time he had journeyed into the desert and found someone. Perhaps with this desert rose, he would do far better. Living in the Mirage Five more years had passed since Tetsuya had been found by her father, Sabaku Tatsushiro of the Village Hidden in the Mirage. Since then, he had taken care of her, teaching her how to properly manipulate the sands around her. She came to love and respect him, wishing nothing more than to please him. He trained her hard, wanting to make sure that she became an able member of the Sabaku clan. The only problem was that because of her mother, she was small and fail, almost weak in appearance. He tried to help her train while she was in the academy, hoping to make her look far healthier. But the harsh years of starvation had taken their toll on the girl, making her look far weaker than she was. She had been in the Academy for five years now, managing to pass her classes, though she had been unable to graduate because of complications. She worked hard, focusing exclusively on her bloodline, able to overpower many of the students that she sparred with, manipulating the sands around her hardly a gesture. To her, she did not need to be strong physically, as her bloodline could slaughter any and all who dared threaten her. Many of the children were afraid of her and refused to spar with her, but she found ways of making them fight her. She would goad them into fights a majority of the time, or give them the idea that they had best do it or they might find the sand chasing them unnaturally. She was not afraid to make threats to get what she wanted from anyone, students or instructors, and they all learned not to cross her path. The children didn’t even bother to tease her, they were so frightened of her, and often avoided her, knowing of her deadly temper and making sure to stay out of her way. This was how she preferred it. However, there were those that did tease her and annoy her. And they could not simply be intimidated into leaving her alone. These were other Sabaku children who lived in the Village, trying to make her understand her ‘place’ amongst them. She glared at them, daring them to challenge her, but they did so without worry of her temper. How she hated them! They treated her like she was some lowly peasant among them. And she knew exactly why, even at this age. They felt that because her mother had been an outsider, she did not have the right to the family name or bloodline. They told her so too. “Your blood is filthy! Contaminated!” “You aren’t worthy of the Sabaku name!” “Why don’t you die? Your father has to be dying himself from shame!” And one day, she had had enough. Before she knew it, they had gotten into a scuffle, sand flying everywhere, all of them ganging up on Tetsuya. She blocked their attacks, managing to hold them back thanks to her father’s training. They continued to attack her, trying to make her angrier. It was working. Until her father arrived on the scene, having come to check up on his daughter today. He came up on the daughter to see three other Sabaku children attacking her. Angrily, he stormed over, ordering them to stop. “Enough! Get out of my sight!” snapped Tatsushiro, giving them all deadly glares. “Or else I’ll be having a talk with your parents!” They all looked at one another before turning and scampering off, whispering angrily to one another as they hurried away from Tetsuya and Tatsushiro. They stood there, staring after them, Tetsuya breathing hard from holding them all off as long as she had. Tatsushiro looked over at his young daughter. She was trying so hard to do well and those idiots were trying to make her feel small. Thankfully, she was much tougher than they had taken her for. For that, he was proud of her. “…let’s go home, Tetsuya-chan.” said her father, turning and making his way home. Tetsuya stared after the trio of Sabaku before following him, her rapidly growing hair swishing behind her as she followed him. She was still angry with them even after that. Thankfully, because of her father’s threat she managed to work in silence without being bothered anymore. Their continuous idiocy had been knocking off her concentration and she no longer had to deal with it. Her days in the academy passed smoothly after that, and she finally managed to graduate at this time, much to her pride. Even though she had just graduated, her father would not permit her to go to war like many of the other Genin’s in her class were. She was eager for a battle, craving to prove her worth on the battlefield. She had killed before (her own mother, to boot), so what would a few invading shinobi mean to her? It would be easy to kill them, especially if she remained here, waiting for an enemy attack. After all, the sand was everywhere. It would be no hard task to drag them under and crush them, compressing the sand and watching the blood flow and mix with the beautiful sands. It was not to be, however, as her father would not allow her to fight though he fought among the Mirage shinobi during the war. This worried Tetsuya. Her father was strong, yes, but that did not mean that he could not die. She had already lost one parent (by her own hands, no less). She could not bear to lose another, especially in times such as these. Tetsuya tried to remain confident that he would not die, which he did not, and for this she was relieved. The war ended on her twelfth birthday, though it left Mirage in a shambles. The war had caused a mountain of corpses to rise high into the air, accompanied by many rivers of blood. After all, this was the price for peace was it now? For there could be no peace without war. This she knew to be true. Every time that someone would try to make peace, a war was always sure to be the prequel to that peace, and it was sure to fall apart not too long after, with more lives being lost. To her, this so called ‘peace’ was impossible. A dream that could not be achieved. It was in human nature to kill one another. It was around this time that she noted a change in her father. He was prone to silences more often when she asked him anything, and often was seen staring out the window across the desert. She knew he was thinking about mother. He had grieved for a long time when he realized that she had died. He had never blamed her, understanding that she had been threatened for the entirety of her life. It had been a complete issue of survival and he understood that she had not wanted to hurt Masago, but had had no choice. And one day, he disappeared, leaving her alone all over again. He left only one thing. A note which said: A desert rose must learn to endure on its own. She read the note over and over again, wanting to cry just as she had when her mother had died by her hands. First her mother, and now her father. But where had he gone? She hurried out of the now empty house, she being the only occupant, to find no trace of him. Not even footprints had been left behind. Did they both hate her now? They all ended up leaving her alone every time. Something must be wrong with her. She didn’t know what, but it had to be something. Despite that, she smiled weakly. “As a desert rose, all I can do…is go on.” And with that, she stepped back into the house, shutting the door quietly behind her. An Enduring Existence Since her father’s disappearance, Tetsuya had remained in the old house that he had lived in since he was young. It was so big to her now that he was gone and she often wondered if this was how he felt when he had lived in it alone. She hated the emptiness but she knew she preferred this way, hating the company of large crowds of people in a house. She would like to have at least one person in the house. Her father had made her happy just being nearby and she knew it was his presence that she craved. She missed him. He had paid attention to her, listened to her, cared for her, and even helped her when she needed it most. Now that he was gone, she had to rely on herself to keep going. She was sixteen now, fully capable of living on her own. It didn’t bother her at all, but there was the lingering feeling that she was missing something. She pushed it aside, however, merely craving to live day by day, ‘enduring’ as her father had told her to do long ago. The days were simple. She trained, ate, slept, and repeated the ritual once again the next day, as her life was not at all complicated. She avoided the company of others, enjoying her own far more, though from time to time she could be seen reading or casually people watching from a distance, sometimes scaring the locals who happened to notice her unscrupulous and intense gaze so like her fathers. She was often compared to him, sometimes referred to as his counterpart, a female version of him so to speak. She was flattered; although she knew she was her own person. All the same, it was an honor to be compared to him. Tetsuya frequently wandered the desert, sometimes, though unknowingly, searching for her father through the wasteland and until she has reached the border of Mirage territory. She never had found a trace of him, much to her sorrow. Even a grave would be a welcome sight, though she doubted she would find one. Currently, she takes many missions, living her life one day at a time, trying to find her place and purpose, always questioning the meaning of her existence. After all, all she can do is endure. Just like the desert rose. |
