It was a cloudless night as General made his way through the cemetery in the city, the moon bright and full providing enough light to see clearly. He couldn’t help but smile. It was a dark night in a large cemetery and the air was crisp. It was a perfect combination to do some digging. General made his way down the path and stopped at a row, “this,” he mused to himself, “will make a fine starting point for tonight.” “How many do you think you’ll get tonight?” Skull asked him. “We are a bit behind in schedule; we may not get as many as we usually do.” General grunted a bit as he removed his large bag of bones from his back. “It doesn’t matter,” he replied, “As long as we get some good quality, the quantity won’t matter so much.” He then opened the large bag of bones. “Alright, now to get some digging equipment.” General reached into the bag and pulled out a few bones. Looking at the varied assortment for a minute or so, he finally picked out a pelvis and a spine. “Yes,” he said lustfully, “These will work perfectly.” General took his scythe and made a small cut on his index finger, small droplets of blood beginning to leak from the cut. He then placed his blood on the spine and pelvis bones. With contact made with his blood and the bones, he then began to reform their shape, fusing them together into a rather effective bone shovel. “Now to begin the fun part!” General said to himself. He grabbed Skull and put him in the back of his hood. “We’re really going to have to find a better place for you when it’s dig time, Skull. Maybe you can give some thought to it tonight?” General said to his friend, as he began the digging process, sticking the bone shovel into the dirt. General tossed the first shovelful of dirt aside, slowing beginning the process of digging up the first grave of the night. After about 30 minutes of digging, he hit pay dirt; a mahogany coffin had been hit. After five more minutes of digging, the coffin had been completely exposed. General grinned, the first coffin of the night was always exciting, and usually set the mood for the rest of the night. He took the bone shovel and began striking on the locks of the coffin, and after some effort, shattered the locks. His excitement was palpable as he slowly got into position and opened the coffin. His excitement quickly turned to disappointment. There was a skeleton in the coffin, all right. However, the first thing that caught his eye was the fantastic necklace hopelessly tangled and twisted in the skeleton’s rib cage. “UGH!” He screamed into the night, “Why does this always happen to me?” General cursed his luck. The ribcage hopelessly tangled with the necklace. He sighed. “Might be able to get that thing off eventually, no sense in leaving it, but it goes in the other bag.” General reached into the coffin and pulled out the hopeless tangled ribcage and put it in his “crazy” bag. He then scanned the coffin again, spying a few bones of interest and grabbing them as well. A small haul, but the misfortune of the ribcage killed his mood. General pulled himself out of the grave, making a small pile of bones out from what he took from the coffin. “Okay, so not the best start,” Skull said, trying to cheer him up, “But the night is young, I’m sure the next one will be great.” General gave a small sigh as he grabbed his scythe, shovel, and bag and moved to the next grave, beginning the digging process once again. General was digging for about 10 minutes and about waist deep into the grave, when he heard someone shouting, “What the hell do you think you’re doing?!?” General looked up from his work to see his addresser. Everything about him could be defined as average. He was average in height and structure, with brown hair and eyes that looked like they were beaten down by life. He looked young, possibly not more than 25 years old. He quickly came closer but soon stopped and put his arm against his nose as the stench of death came to his olfactory senses. General gave him a confused look. “I’m digging, what does it look like I’m doing?” General turned to continue his work, not paying him any more mind. The watchman was slightly shocked at the response. “Yeah, I can see you’re digging, but why are you digging in the graves?” General was now completely certain he was dealing with an idiot. “Well, of course I’m digging in the graves. Where else would I dig?” General responded, tossing out another shovel full of dirt. The watchman was stunned; he had not expected a response like that. It was then that he noticed the small bone pile, and then the large bag of bones nearby. A look of horror came to his face. “You’re taking the bones?” he said with a shock, “That’s not right, I’m telling the authorities right now!” The watchman turned and began to run off. He made it one step before he fell to the ground, feeling his Achilles tendon roll up his leg with a sickening slurp sound. He screamed bloody murder as he turned around and noticed the scythe in the grave robbers hand. The watchman tried to crawl away, and screamed again as he felt his other tendon roll up his leg with a sickening sound. General pulled himself out of the grave, scythe in hand and he looked over the fallen body of the watchman. The watchman tried to pull his body away using his arms, but that plan soon failed as General next sliced the muscles in his arms. First his left arm, then his right arm were soon rendered useless. General looked over his fallen body. “Nobody stops me from getting my bones,” He said with a snarl, “You’re lucky I’m behind or I’d finish the deal, but I need to get back to work.” General left the now near-immobile body of the watchman as he returned to the grave and continued digging to the sound of loud sobbing. It took General 15 minutes to finish digging the grave, reaching the ebony-colored coffin, and another 5 minutes to make the coffin accessible. General broke the locks of the second coffin and got into position to open it up and reveal the bony treasure inside. General’s mood was raised instantly. There was nothing but bones in the second coffin, all of which were in excellent shape. He did notice that there was a small band of gold on the skeletons ring finger, but it easily slipped off. General felt like singing, it had been a long time before those came off easily. The entire skeleton was pulled out of the coffin and added to the bone pile he was amassing. “Well, this defiantly made up for that first one,” General said with glee, “Thank you,” he paused, and looked at the tombstone, “Steven Viper, that really made the night better.” General pulled himself out of the grave and moved to the next one in the row; scythe, shovel and bag in tow. A soft whimper caught General’s ears, “Hmm? What the…?” He looked down and noticed the still-bleeding body of the watchman, still attempting to move away. “Oh, right, I forgot about you.” General told the watchman, “Well, no matter, I’m still busy, so maybe you should get a nap or something.” General then moved to the third grave and started digging for the third time. After 30 minutes of digging, the next coffin was exposed. A few quick shots to the locks and they broke off the coffin. “Here’s to hoping that this coffin was as good as the last,” Skull said, breaking his odd silence. “Agreed.” General responded. General opened the coffin, and the first thing he noticed was that the skeleton was clutching a scroll. “Huh,” General said, “He’s got something.” General reached for the scroll and attempted to pull out the scroll out of his bony grip. It was harder than he though. “Kekekekeke,” General began laughing, “Whatever this is, it’s so important to him that he grips it, even in death, now I HAVE to know what it is!” General reached and began to slowly pry the scroll out from the skeleton’s bony grasp. Some plying later, and the scroll found a new possessor. “Let’s see what we have here,” He said as he began to read the title of the scroll, “Medical Jutsu, a Primer.” General raised an eyebrow as he sat in the grave and began to read the scroll by the light of the moon. “Medical Justu,” the scroll began, “Is the art of using chakra in your body to heal and restore damaged tissue in the body of another.” General almost stopped reading, “Why would I need to know this? This won’t help me at…” he stopped, and noticed the diagram on the next part, a complete detailed skeletal guide to the human body. General was silent for a few minutes, “Okay, scroll, you have my attention, let’s see what you can do with it.” He continued reading. “The first step is complete concentration and focus.” Upon hearing General say that, a shout of “We’re doomed” came from his hood, Skull was adding his two cents worth. “Shut up, Skull,” General shouted, “This is getting really interesting.” He continued his reading. “You need to focus entirely on the wounds of the creature that his hurt in an attempt to heal the damaged tissue. You focus your chakra using the sign of the Horse, but…” General stopped, “Sounds easy enough!” He closed the scroll, excited to try this mysterious new technique that involved bones in ways he didn’t quite understand. “Okay, first step is finding someone wounded, where can I find someone wounded?” General looked for a moment before noticing the sprawled out body of the watchman he had mutilated. General grinned and climbed out of the grave, with the scroll and scythe in hand. He walked over the body and poked it with the pole section of his scythe, “Hey, you wounded?” General asked of the body as he poked it. The watchman looked up with hate and fear in his eyes, “Of course I’m wounded, and you’re the one who wounded me! I’ve been in constant pain for almost an hour! What the hell is wrong with you?!?” He shouted at General as strong as he could, which wasn’t very, considering he had been bleeding profusely for nearly the last hour. General was elated, “Yay! A wounded! I can try this then!” He gave the watchman a smile that made him fear for what little life he may have had left. “No, no,” the watchman pleaded, “Just please leave me here. Don’t do anything else to me, please.” General laughed a little, “Oh don’t be so down. Just relax and I’ll take care of this.” General looked at the watchman’s broken body, his legs were a mess and bleeding profusely. His arms, while not as bad, wouldn’t be moving anytime soon. “Let’s start with what appears to be worst, shall we?” General said, looking at the watchman’s ruined legs. “Okay, total focus,” General spoke to himself and made the sign of the Horse, “Focus and…” General put his hand to the ruined left leg and immediately his leg exploded at the kneecap, causing the watchman to scream and writhe in agony and bleed even more profusely. Skull laughed, “Swing and a miss, eh buddy?” General was unfazed as blood began to splash onto him. “Okay,” General said, “Maybe trying for the leg was a bit much for my level at this point. Let’s try something less severe.” General looked over the writhing watchman and moved towards his ruined arm. “Okay, let’s try this again. Total focus” General said, making the sign of the Horse, “Focus and…” General put his hand to the ruined left arm and it immediately exploded at the shoulder joint as well, causing the watchman even more pain. “Please,” the watchman begged between sobs and screams, “No more, please…” Skull laughed even more, “This is the most hilarious thing I’ve seen in forever! You need to do this more often.” General was still unfazed, though his cloak was starting to get soaked in the watchman’s blood. “Quit exploding, will you!” General shouted at the screaming watchman, “I’m trying to fix you and it’s hard with you exploding all over and getting blood everywhere!” The watchman just looked at him with total fear in his eyes, beginning to go into shock. General sighed, “Okay, maybe that was a bit too much as well, but those are the only wounds I know of on him. Now what do I do?” He mused about this conundrum for a moment until he noticed a small amount of blood on the watchman’s shirt, not coming from his severed, exploded limbs. General excitedly ripped off the watchman’s shirt, and saw that he had a small cut on his upper left chest, bleeding slightly, most likely from his sliced tendon induced fall. General was excited, “Alright, a small cut, I can handle this. This should be much easier than the leg or the arm.” General got into position over the watchman’s chest. “Alright,” General said, “One more time. Total concentration, total focus…” General made the sign of the horse, “Focus and…” General put his hand over the wound. For a brief moment, nothing happened. General looked at the cut and it looked like it was slightly closing. Then the watchman’s heart exploded, dousing General in blood. The watchman’s last though as he felt his life slip away was, “as least it was an interesting way to go.” General watched and saw the life slip out of the watchman’s brown eyes and was then still. General poked the body and got no reaction. Skull laughed, “And that’s three, so sorry, try again next time.” General was confused. “Huh,” he mused, “Saw a slight heal in his cut before he exploded again.” He reached for the scroll he found in the grave, “Let’s see what this says about what to do when they keep exploding on you.” General looked through the scroll, and came across the passage where he had stopped reading earlier. Glancing back at it, he finished the line, “But under no circumstances should you ever start on a person, because you will most likely fail horribly at it your first time trying. Practice is suggested by first attempting on small animals like rabbits or birds to steady your energy and chakra to get the flow right, or else horrible mishaps can and will occur.” General frowned, “You know, scroll, you could have put that passage earlier.” General was upset; he wanted to try to learn these techniques before he sent the watchman to death. General got up, almost completely covered in the watchman’s blood as it stuck to him and began to dry in the cold night. “Well,” General said as he looked at the corpse, “Guess we better take care of this.” General raised his scythe and brought it down into the corpse. Shortly afterward, General put the bones he had collected into his large bag of bones. The only bone salvageable from the exploding watchman was his skull, also put into his bag with the rest of bones he had collected that evening. “Only three graves tonight,” Skull said, “That’s a new low for us.” General kept walking through the cemetery, coming to a mausoleum. “I already told you, it’s quality over quantity, and I suppose today wasn’t as good as some others, but there were a few nice ones.” General said. “Besides, I did find that scroll. So that guy kept exploding, big deal, I’m going to keep at it. Just you watch, I’ll get it eventually. I’ll just have to start smaller like it suggested, like with bunnies.” General broke the lock off the mausoleum door, entering a small room filled with coffins and dust. General yawned, “But for now, it’s time for sleep, I’m exhausted, we’ll work on it another day. He closed the door to the mausoleum and opened a coffin, finding it to be full of broken bones. He groaned and unceremoniously dumped the ruined bones onto the floor of the mausoleum. He then climbed into the coffin and went to sleep. Skull was still connected. “Going to keep at it huh,” Skull thought to himself, “May God have mercy on those poor bunny’s souls.” Skull then tried to rest as best he could to no avail. He’s a Skull. |
