Riku shook his head, yawning and rubbing his eyes awake. His sight was filled with a bright daze. This place was much lighter than what he was used to, and even more than that of the desert. Taking one look around from the transit station, the Clone could see tall buildings, scratching at the atmosphere. On the ground, a big mix of different races scurried around on their daily duties.

Riku's gaze then fixated on two men walking stout up the nearby street. They were clad in a silver armor. The shoulder pads resembled curved blades. In fact, the whole armor looked like a shining sword, glittering in the colorless sunlight. Strapped loosely to their waists were thin silver swords that looked incredibly sharp.

The teen knew he couldn't start his destructive rampage right away. Not with this law enforcement organization patrolling around. Perhaps he could gain their trust. Maybe go vigilante. Not only would he appear to be some help, but Riku could get a little fighting action at the same time.

As if right on cue, there was a large smashing behind him. Turning on the spot, Riku saw 5 men bursting through the tall glass doors of the station behind him. They were carrying a large pile of square data disks. Riku assumed that these had information on something of great importance, or a large amount of gold. Before he could protests, the thugs held out guns and swords at the Clone, whom suddenly appeared to be by himself on the massive white stairway leading up to the station.

"You, teen. Give us your gold!"

Riku blinked, feigning fear. "I... I only have Gill in cash!" His acting was quite impressive.

Another thug leaned over to the apparent leader. "Boss, should we just waste this one and go?"

The tall brutish leader thinned his eyes. "No, I have a better idea." He ran his thick sausage hands through his spiked red hair. It flattened and then seemed to bounce back into shape. "You're a Clone aren't you?"

Riku nodded silently, the other thugs sniggering.

"Yes, you look like one." He leader stepped forwards, towering above the tiny Clone. "You lot are generally evil, am I correct?" Riku produced a puzzled look.

"I don't kn -"

"Don't even answer that. I KNOW that you all are. I also know that you are all a generally strong race. We could use someone of your talents, if you're into this kind of thing?" Riku lowered his head and began to chuckle under his breath, before he looked up and let out a massive laugh. "What? What is so funny?!" The Clone carried on laughing, the brute raised his sword. "Tell me!"

Riku suddenly stopped, looking at the leader eye-to-eye. "You are." His voice was plain and direct. The leader's face flushed red and he slashed downwards with his sword. But as he did, he felt a searing pain in his gut. Looking down, Riku had already dashed forwards and had lunged his elbow into his stomach.

Spit burst from the brute's open mouth, his followers looking on in shock. All four charged forwards to attack the stranger, but stumbled back to find him suddenly disappearing. Nearby onlookers gasped and then looked up in awe. The 5 thugs then turned their gaze up as well; Riku jumped up in the sky and fell back downwards.

Just as he was seemingly about to hit the ground, the Clone zipped parallel to the ground and kicked into the nearest thug, pushing him along and crushing him into the station wall.

"Shoot him down!" The leader roared, all 4 holding up their blasters and firing rapidly. Riku narrowed his eyes and charged forwards zipping in and out of the fire, while batting away any blasts at the same time. The thugs growled, halting their fire as the teen shot upwards into the sky once again.

There seemed to be a sudden pink glint flashing across the sky just for a second. Riku’s figure appeared in front of the sun, casting his shadow over the thugs. His hand was tensed, held behind his back. The pink flash returned again, and it grew, emanating from the Clone's hand. The teen yelled out and thrust his hand forwards, launching his sword forwards. It curved and slammed into one thug and surged forwards, taking out another. Riku landed, retrieved his weapon, then watched as the thug groaned in pain.

The last two standing thugs trembled, knees shaking. They both dropped their weapons, and turned on their heels running towards a van sitting in the road. Riku smirked and dashed then jumped right above the van and landed on it, crushing it beneath his feet. "Whoops, my mistake!" He laughed and walked forwards, putting on a heroic macho voice. "You evil doers shan't escape justice!"

He lunged forwards, throwing his foot into the last grunt before landing lightly, 2 feet in front of the brute. The leader screamed in frustration and lunged downwards, throwing a hammer fist. Riku raised his hand, stopping the attack with ease. Using his right knee, the Clone thrust it forwards, right between the legs.

The whole crowed seemed to 'ooooh' in unison, the men in particular sweating and crossing their legs.

The brute swayed precariously before finally crashing forwards, squeaking something Riku didn't really catch, or care about. Collapsing on the ground, the leader left a massive wave of dust spraying out from underneath him. There was a short moment of silence before everyone began to cheer and applaud for the Clone.

Secretly he wanted to blast them all down, but putting on his best smile, Riku waved and turned to the approaching two policemen he had seen earlier.

"Er.. Gentlemen?" Riku looked, a little puzzled at the armor clad men.

"That was an impressive show of skills there, sir." They were both humans, one with brown hair, the other blonde. "We are the Paladins, ultimate law enforcement group. Few rival us in power, and you seem to be one of those few." Riku smiled sweetly, nodding as they continued.

"I guess it's lucky for us that you're a good guy. It's bad enough that we have a limited number on our forces, but with tough guys like you around, it helps ease of the pressure."

"Well I'm glad to help..."

"Hey, we could ask our boss if you could join. We need more guys like you around. If you don't mind helping out."

Riku pondered for a moment. He could use the cash and exercise. It would build up his stats and keep things a little livelier going on around here. Plus he could gain trust from the locals.

"I would be more than happy to help you out."

"Excellent," grinned the blonde. "Come, I'll take you to Maris. Ptara, you sort out this thugs." The darker haired soldier nodded, Riku following the other deeper into the town.

The Clone looked up at the tall buildings. Never had he seen such structures. Avalon surely was the seat of technology. Perhaps he could take back some ideas for his own company back on Planet Riku. Finally both came to a grand, shining building. It seemed to tower above the rest and curved upwards like a sword into the sky, glistening a blue silver.

"Here we are. Headquarters." The soldier still seemed impressed at his own building. Riku was silent in awe. How such a building was constructed was something of a mystery to the intelligent Clone. "Isn't she a beauty?"

"It really is an impressive piece of work." They carried on inside, making their way past shifty guards who seemed a little unnerved by the teen's presence.

"Now, let me do the talking..." The soldier muttered, shining his armor and opening the doorway to reveal Miras, the leader of the Paladins. He resembled a teen Riku had previously met, known as Sora. His hair was in a matted mess style, and seemed to stand perfectly still. His armor was similar to the other paladins, but a pale white.

Riku was led into the large open room. To one side was a wall made entirely of a glass window. It overlooked the transit station and the harbor. A dazzling blue ocean was in plain sight, and several tall mountains were also in view at the horizon.

The soldier gestured Riku over to a nearby seat while he approached Maris, engaging him in conversation.

"Sir!" He stood in salute.

"Yes, how can I help?" Maris spoke. His voice was calm and powerful. It had a reassuring tone to it.

"This warrior defeated five powerful thugs earlier today, by himself!" He looked at the Clone, then back to his superior; a little proud that he had discovered such a find.

Maris raised his eyebrow. "Ah, a vigilante, 'ey?" He marched over to Riku and ordered him to stand. He quite easily intimidated the teen. "I don't like vigilantes... they take away the good work from my men." His eyes did not look too pleased...

"Actually, sir," The soldier retorted, "His actions were in self defense. I asked for his help, personally. I know that we are lacking in man power, and he seems to be a capable fighter."

Maris turned, bitter faced that he had been righted. "Thank you, Traka." He turned quickly to Riku. "You, tell me who you are."

Should I tell them my real name? I want to keep under cover. What is an innocent good hearted name?

"Hello?!" Maris spat, his hands twitching as he grew irate.

"Ri..ally!" Riku shook his head and blushed slightly. What a ridiculous name.

"Ah, Rially. What a strange name. I take it must be a common one from your race." Riku grinded his teeth quietly and nodded. "Well then, if what my soldier says is true, then you could be of some assistance. In fact, something has recently come up which I think you could deal with."

Maris turned swiftly and marched over to the glass window, gazing out at the mountains in the distance. "You see, Rially, my organization is called the 'Paladins'. It is our role to ensure justice is served to any wrong doers, and that all evil and hatred is kept at bay." Riku nodded, seated back in his chair. "One of our most senior Paladins, Ury, was sent out on a mission into the Plains. His goal was to dispatch a group of raiders threatening innocent people in a small village. However, something unusual has happened." He cleared his throat and returned to his seat behind the shining metallic desk at the head of the room. "Ury, being the senior Paladin warrior that he is, has a large life force, amounting to more than necessary."

"So what is so unusual about this?" Riku blinked, his back straining from sitting up constantly.

"He hasn't returned..." Miras' voice was low and dark, filled with doubt. "He was sent away a week ago and should have returned in the last 3 days, but there has been no word. All efforts of contacting him and the village have failed, and I am at a shortage of men here in the city, so no one is able to investigate."

"So this is where I come in?" The Clone rolled his eyes but still paid attention, wanting to look interested and perhaps a little concerned.

"Precisely, " Miras nodded, grabbing a glass of water next to him and drinking it heavily, " it would be of a great help to me. If the old man is still alive then bring him back. Otherwise, I want to know anything and everything that happened. Here is a radio to transmit any information." He handed over a blue device, Riku strapping it to his waist.

The teen nodded and stood even though he wouldn’t be able to used the cursed contraption, rubbing his back. "Where are the Plains?"

Miras pointed bluntly through the window. "Those mountains there." Riku nodded. "Behind them is a vast desert, you will find the village of Glaython there. You must traverse the mountains and carry on heading west for a day. It is about two days in walking distance."

Riku smirked. "I don't walk..." He turned quickly and opened the window, falling out backwards and then raising himself up into the sky. "I fly!" He shouted out as his aura left a clean blue trail in the vicinity as he floated away.

The purple and white teen weaved between the tall structures, skimming past the glass and metal, leaving faint ripples as he went. People looked up in awe at the flying being. Very few clones had mastered flight on the planet, so it was a strange thing to many people. As they had developed their technology to such a high level there was no incentive for them to learn to do so.

Nearing the city limits, Riku turned to look back on the settlement. He smirked, flexing his fingers.

Those idiots were foolish to trust me. They obviously haven't encountered a Clone before. How fortunate for them that I am the most powerful Clone in the universe!

I can't strike them down yet, however. I need to gain their trust to an extent that they would lay their lives down for me...

Riku burst towards the mountains, flying close to the ground, leaving a dusty wake behind. The yellow trees rattled as he flew past, leaves fluffed and withering to the ground. The teen eventually approached a large lake and flew extremely close to the water, his nose practically breaking the surface. Wanting to get there quickly, the Clone increased his speed and rocketed onwards, leaving a massive wave of water shooting up in a plume of white and blue, before cascading back down. The spray was very cooling in such a hot climate. Riku could see no clouds in sight, and the sky was overly blue. Much more pale than his home town, and a lot warmer too. If anything, this place was a better, more angelic than what he was used to; it made Riku want to vomit.

Riku was close to the mountains now, the tall peaks easily in view. His gaze was fixated on the top of the rocky structures. They were easily taller than the highest point on Riku, and were just as magnificent. It was these kinds of things that inspired Riku, but at the same time made him grow jealous, and fueled his quest for power.

Riku was but a glint on the horizon, before flashing past the young fisherman. The teen's wake caused the water to rise up and swamp the beach, battering down trees and makeshift docks. Even if he was undercover, Riku could still have fun at terrorizing people 'innocently'.

Just to give himself a little challenge, Riku flew head on into the mountain side and landed hard on a single foot. He paused for a second, building up his strength and regaining his breath before his ascent. Looking up with determination, the Clone charged up the mountain side, jumping from ledge to ledge and grappling around every crevice. At one point he was running vertically up a crumbling cliff face, dodging and jumping around stray boulders that sought him out.

Riku was nearing the top now, he could smell it. The air seemed to be thick with flavor; fresh and natural. To Riku it tasted like the world had been cleansed, and disinfected.

The teen was finally approaching the summit, scrambling desperately over the cliffs and rocks as he went. Snow was beginning to way his legs down, dazzling his eye sight from the reflection of the sunlight. Growling, the Clone held out his hand to his mouth and started yelling at the mountain. The sounds seemed to hardly effect the snow in his way, but it impacted at the top of the mountain. Riku looked up, gritting his teeth. He glanced down at his feet, small pebble chattering around, shaking in fear. Returning his sight to the mountain top, Riku's view was carpeted by a massive white blanket thundering towards him. The teen had created an avalanche.

He could float up and out of harms way, but that would just be too boring. Instead he powered up, spreading his stance a little and clenching his fists. He gathered his strength and smirked at the oncoming snow.

"Come, try and take me out!" His voice echoed around the empty mountainside, the snow charging for him at incredible speed.

The snow bounded down the mountainside, seemingly energetic and filled with anticipation at wiping out this insignificant being. Riku let out a laugh as the avalanche thundered towards him. As it finally approached he tried to look as tough as possible, then realized that the snow didn’t care about how macho he was. Crap.
Without thinking about it for another moment, Riku blasted forwards, dodged the heavy collections of snow, and made his way to the top.

There was a thin band of clouds gathering at the top point where Riku stood. Looking around he could see the curvature of the planet. He stared out with a sour expression. He felt so powerful, but in actual fact he was not. He knew there were others around in the world significantly stronger, but it couldn't surpass more than a hundred, could it? Considering the odds, Riku felt safe from the harm of meeting any powerful warriors, including that Human... Sora.

Riku brushed his hand across the sky, seemingly wiping away his worries and he laughed, peering down at the amazing contrast before him. Snow capped the mountain side, which gradually transformed into rocky cliffs, then a short patch of grass and trees. Finally, Riku could see it. The Cougan Plains. They seemed to stretch out for miles, extending past the horizon. Everything was enshrouded in a sea of yellow and gold.

There was a faint buzzing, followed by a light beeping.

Hello? Rially, can you hear me?

Riku flexed his hands in annoyance before picking up the radio strapped to his waist.

"Yes... How can I help, Miras?" He was lucky that he didn’t have to push any buttons or anything for them to hear what he was doing.

“How is it going? Where are you?”

"I'm at the summit of the mountain you pointed me to."

“So you've already ascended Mt. Avan? I am impressed, perhaps it was wrong of me to doubt you... Remember, keep heading”

"West, don't worry I know."

“Okay, well then good luck. Miras, out.”

Riku launched himself off the mountain, free falling through the air, sweeping along with ease. He was getting closer to the ground and picked up his power, flying close to the cold snow. He was now bursting over rocks and finally weaving in and out of tall trees until he finally found himself zooming over tall sand dunes.

He had to pull away and flew a foot higher, the sand spraying into his face. Riku began to sweat, the temperature rising noticeably. Finally, in the distance, Riku could make out a dark grey blur. He sighed in relief and powered his way forwards toward the object.

He could now see, in plain sight, that it was the village he had been sent to. The teen flew over the gates and landed in the village center, scaring several of the people. Five tall teens ran up to him, swords raised.

"Halt, foreigner!"

"Relax, I am here on order of the paladins..."

"Don't lie. Why would they send a teen?" One of the warriors barked back.

"Look," He picked up his radio. "Speak to Miras yourself." He tossed it at the nearest soldier, whom caught it in surprise. They conferred with each other amid low whispers, other citizens gathering to see the foreign Paladin.

"Okay then, fine we believe you." They dispersed, returning to their duties, save one. "Why are you here?"

"Miras sent me to look for Ury. He was sent here to protect the village from attack."

The soldier looked puzzled at the Clone. "Ury? That old Paladin? He left the other day after fighting several raiders."

Riku nodded, bringing his finger to his lip. "So he has been here?" The soldier nodded. "Apparently all contact with this village and Ury has been lost. What do you know about that?"

"Our communication satellite was damaged in the battle. We are basically cut off from the outside world now. Very few venture over the mountains." The soldier handed over the radio and returned his sword to its sheath. "As for Ury, I have no idea. I would send a search party out, but those other four men are the only soldiers in the village, and we need them to defend this place from anymore raiders."

These stupid fools. Why am I putting myself through this? Riku paused for a few seconds in thought. Something’s not right here I can just feel it...

A sick grin spread across the Clone's face, turning into a maniacal laugh.

The Clone threw his fist at the soldier he had just been talking to, knocking him down to the floor. The civilians nearby turned, screaming for help. Riku ran in front of one, laughing as he did. "Going somewhere?" He thrust his knee upwards, followed by a downward elbow, sending the old man down to the floor. The whole village was a blur of shouting and screams, Riku laughing the whole time.

The floored soldier got to his feet and shouted. "Traitor! Why betray the Paladins? I thought you were on our team!"

Riku walked forwards, slowly, smirking. "I never said I was on your team." He charged forwards, kicking the soldier hard in the chest, sending him into a nearby house. Turning on his heel, Riku's span his tail, sweeping an approaching soldier. He ran forwards and kicked the downed soldier hard in the stomach, sending him scraping along the desert sand.

The Clone jumped up and searched from the air. His eyes darted between potential targets until he saw a cowering man in an alley. He crashed through a nearby house, appearing through the rubble and in front of the man. "What's getting you down? Let me give you a lift!" He laughed, grabbing the man and flinging him up into the sky.

"Hahaha! What fun! I haven't enjoyed myself in so long!" The Clone powered through the village, taking down any civilians still left in the streets. Two more soldiers approached, swords aimed at the villain. "Don't mock me with your toys..." The teen grabbed at one sword with his hand, blood dribbling from the cut. The soldiers eyes grew wide, Riku not in much pain.

The Clone tugged on the sword and threw it up into the air, catching it as it landed. He then thrust it forwards, cutting cleanly into the closest soldier, then spinning to cut into the next, sending them both to the floor in red pools of liquid.

Riku couldn't stop laughing, exerting his power onto these weak fools was exhilarating. Deciding it was time to end this game, the Clone raised hand into the sky. "Sorry citizens of Glaython, but your time has run out!" His voice boomed around the tiny little village, people cowering inside their homes.

It was then however, that everybody decided that Riku was serious, and some people started crying.
“We give up! We don’t know how you figured it out, but we are not really the citizens of Glaython! We are a drug organization in disguise! Please don’t kill us great paladin!”

At this, Riku was astounded. He had long ago forgotten that he had suspected something wrong. When he got into his maddened craze, he kind of just lost control… Either way, he wasn’t really sure what to do. EQUIPPING ALL OF HIS Materia INTO THEIR RESPECTIVE SLOTS, Riku grabbed his radio thing and asked, “Did you hear that boss?” Instantly, a reply came from the head Paladin ordering Riku to search for Ury; as they were probably hiding him somewhere.

The search only lasted for about twenty seconds, seeing as though the ‘citizens’ had released him with no second thoughts. “Well, I guess I better leave before I do something I might regret,” Riku admitted to Ury. “Have fun without me!” And with that, Riku swept up a nearby grenade, and some gill that he would for some odd reason come to find in his inventory at a later date.
