Can I really be the hero?; Chris and Chloe

Doesn't particularly like the Art of Fighting, but definitely wants to be the King of Fighters.
Chris made his way over to Nibelheim, his plane's small cargo bay full up with various supplies. Given that a majority of the populated areas, particularly the ones near a Mako Reactor, were not designed to sustain a farm or other food-production facility, they often had to get it from far away. Thus, there was always a need for someone like Chris to bring the supplies to the towns and cities that needed them.

After bringing in the supplies, Chris had the rest of the afternoon free to do whatever. However, he was itching to do something...heroic. Apparently, the excitement from the Daze encounter hadn't completely worn off. "Ah, there's got to be some Big Bad Evil Guy somewhere just waiting for someone to discover and maybe ask for my help in taking down." Chris said, then pulled out his Carbuncle Materia, "And if we can't do it, I can be like, 'Go, Nex! Take him down with a Thunder attack!'" Chris dropped the Materia in front of him on 'Nex', then picked it up after the end of the sentence, "And then we'll all be, 'Yeah, we did it!' afterwards."

"Of course, we'll have to pick someone that EVERYONE hates so that we don't look like anti-Shin-Ra terrorists. Either that or try to catch him with his own words so that he would be perceived as the bad guy." Chris continued his 'heroic' plotting, "If I can get Shin-Ra's support on this somehow, then there's no way it would feel wrong, right? Of course, that depends on the bad guy's cause."

Chloe lookd down fromt the darkness of her hotel room watching enviously as people walked about while talking. She knew where the people where even as they walked intot he hotel and out of her sight she could almost here where they were, she could hear their blood. Her eyes began smoldering slightly as the thought of blood entered her mind but she didn't notice. Her new.....Abilities, were rather distracting. more than distracting was how she felt out in the sunlight.

everything seemed to bright, it all seemed to meld into one big white blur ironically white was what she was wearing. She had a white hoody that fit her perfectly over her white button up shirt and a a pair of loose white shorts with a black logo on them and a pair of white sneakers. She'd found wearing white didn't make her uncomfortable physically in the sun at least and if she didn't mind being blind or the slight sun burned sensation she got when she walked out it let her go out in the day time.

She peered back out the window trying to clear here thoughts of the sound of hearts beating and the painful sun when she realized there was a light covering of clouds. It didn't completely get rid of the sunburn feeling she got but she was so sick of sitting indoors all the time she didn't really care anymore. She looked at her knife and gun on the table beside her bed and decided she wouldn't need them. This was Nibleheim after all. Nothing interesting ever happened here. It sure hadn't been for her.

She was in Niblheim on leave after her.......Incident. She was supposed to be recovering from psychological and physical trauma but it was a joke. Other than the blood loss she'd suffered she'd healed fine. Too well in fact, the cut she'd suffered had faded by the next day. She'd missed work though, she collapsed in her apartment a blinding heat traveling through her body that had here writhing in agony for two days. That was when her symptoms had set in. She'd just told her boss she'd been sick and hadn't reported it, at best it would just get her fired.

She looked around the lobby of the hotel and walked out trying to ignore the sudden intensity it seemed she could here the blood flow in the people around her and quickly making for the main road and going to the edges of town. As she walked she wondered if getting fired would be such a bad thing. Her squad was dead, god knew what was happening to her after that fucking psycho had taken her blood. But what else could she do?This was all she knew. As she neared the edge of town she noticed a plane had landed and she walked closer to get a better look. The guy next tot he plane really wasn't to big though he was at least half a foot taller then her, he had short auburn hair and she couldn't see his face as he was turned away from her.

She got close enough she could hear him talking to herself and a small smile crossed her features, the first in a awhile. She had no idea what this guy was talking about but he seemed pretty excited about it. For the first time in days it was almost quiet with only the gentle beat of only his heartbeat noticeable now that she was outside of town. Relaxing a bit she felt a bit better than she had earlier , the clouds had hidden most of the sunlight and their was only a small tingling on the skin on her legs and face that were exposed to it. "Hello" She said after a moment not really sure what else to say and a bit to guilty to keep listening to him talk to himself.........

Chris was called away from his self-narration by just a simple 'hello'. Chris looked around for the source of the voice, eventually finding it coming from a young lady, dressed up in white for the most part, and her face partially concealed by the hood of her sweater. Chris wondered if the young lady had passed by him and his machine while out for a walk, or if there was any other reason that she had to come out. By the tone of her voice, nothing was going on nearby that would be cause for alarm.

Chris took a moment to respond, as he was deciding whether to give a full introduction straight out or to gradually get into it. Chris decided to use the second option. "Hello." Chris replied, "How are you today?" A simple reply to a simple greeting, while giving himself a chance to build on the conversation some.

Chloe had to think for a moment before responding, she hadn't talked to anyone casually in awhile and she wasn't sure about the answer to his question."I'm not sure......probably not real great." She said with a grimace. "Oh, I'm Chloe by the way......." She added her face turning thoughtful as she examined Chris's plane. She didn't know a whole lot about engineering but anyone who worked at Shin-Ra knew at least a little about machines and she looked at the plane with interest.

"Is this yours" She asked putting a hand on the plane as she turned toward Chris. The question had an obvious answer but it was a good conversation starter and she didn't know what else to say. As it was she had to fight to keep the shyness off her face. She was self conscious about the stares people sometimes gave her because of her eyes after they had changed, that was another reason among the many that she had avoided people in Midgar.

A moment after her question Chloe heard a bass roar as thunder sounded nearby. She looked up at the sky and realized she could almost smell that it was going to rain, the thunder left little doubt in her mind. As she looked up the firt drops of rain started down and she looked over at Chris an amused expression on her face. I think we're about to get a little wet." She said with a small grin as the rain began coming down.

"My name is Chris." Chris said after the young lady gave his name. In response to her asking whether the plane belonged to him, Chris answered, "Yes it is. It's not exactly top-of-the-line, but it does what I need it to do." Chris looked towards the sky. It was getting dark, probably indicating the arrival of storm clouds. The sound of distant thunder confirmed that there was a storm coming towards their direction.

Soon after, the rain started falling. It was only a drizzle to start, but it would soon get stronger. Judging by Chloe's expression, she seemed to prefer rainy days over hot, sunny days. Chris didn't really care much about the weather. It was partially required of him to function at a relatively consistant level of efficiency regardless of the weather. Sun, rain, snow, wind, none of these would significantly affect his abilities "Yep." Chris said, not having much else to say about the matter of weather.

"And what is it you do? " Chloe asked him as the downpour finally started, her silvery eyes seemed to shimmer in the rain as she looked back to Chris. She barely the rain as it soaked her clothes, the last of the burning disappeared and her posture which had been slightly stiff before relaxed. After her question she lapsed into silence and gave a nervous smile at Chris. She hadn't really ever been shy before and she looked away at the ground after a moment as she felt a bit embarrassed. Why was she shy now? You'd think a near death experience would change a person.......

well it had changed her, just not much for the better. Unless you counted being traumatized better than before. She shook her head as the sight of blood dripping down a a set of gleaming blades entered her mind and she felt a set of phantom lips on her neck. She slapped the spot under her tattoo where her scar was as if slapping something had stung her before coming back to her senses and looking at the ground again as a wave of disgust rolled through at the thoughts she'd just experienced and she fought the urge to shudder that had nothing to do with the rain......

"Basically, what I do is deliver things." Chris said, "Most of the time, it's delivering goods from one place to another, but sometimes, I do other things, like helping people get from one place to another, or helping bring destructive beings to their knees...no, seriously, I did something like that quite recently."

Chris saw that Chloe seemed to be shivering a bit. Whether it was from the rain, or from something else, as she did mention that she wasn't feeling too great. Chris was a bit curious about what it was about. "Now, you mentioned having a bit of a bad day. Is there anything I can do to help you out?" Chris asked.

Chloe smiled and gave a small laugh as Chris told her what he did. So which do you do more of? " She asked giving him another smile . The rain was already letting up though Chloe was still soaked she didn't seem to notice. Her smile faded into a slight frown as Chris asked if he could help her. " I don't think so.....I don't think it's really something that can be helped." she said before realizing how over dramatic that had sounded.
She wasn't someone who wanted pity. She just wasn't sure what she did want.

She put her wet hood down as she felt the moisture start soaking into her hair. The wind started blowing and the clouds shifted ominously above. She once again felt at a loss for words and stared at the ground uncomfortably before looking back at him and attempting to start up the conversation again. " So Did you come to Nibleheim for a delivery or to slay something?" she asked attempting a joke. It came out in the wrong tone as her nervousness crept back into her tone..........

"Not to worry, I've come to make deliveries." Chris said. He tried not to make it sound sinister or anything, but given the environment, anything could sound sinister during a thunderstorm, "Anyway, I'd think it would be a good idea to find some place for shelter...after all, I'm not sure how getting hit by a 'natural' lightning bolt compares injurywise to those called up by mages and what not...and I don't think I would like to test that."

Chris's first guess would be Chloe's house, if she had one. But whether she would allow that was yet to be seen. His first impression wasn't one that would immediately get him invited. All Chris could think of doing was wait for the young lady's response.

Chloe listened to Chris's comment and laughed again as she took it sarcastically. She laughed again as he commented about the lightning but she wasn't really worried about it. But she was getting soaked and in her light outfit she was getting cold easily even though it was still warm. " We could go to where i'm staying" she suggested her expression nuetral. She didn't want to give the wrong impression about why she was inviting him to her room. But he didn't look like he had a place to get out of the rain other than the cockpit of his small plane so she offered.

The wind blew again and overhead the clouds shifted again,Thinning this time. Chloe begin to feel her exposed skin tingle again and put her hood up obscuring her face. She didn't like it, she had to go back whether Chris would follow her or not, and soon. Last time she'd try walking in daylight had not been fun. That was why she had traded in her comfortable apartment above the plate for the studio apartment under it despite how it interfered with her job."C,mon" She said turning away from him and gesturing for him to follow. Below her hood her eyes began to smolder a dull glowing fiery red instead of the silvery mirror grey before.....

As it turned out, she did have a place to live. "Okay. That sounds like an idea." Chris said, then got into his airplane, not wanting to leave it behind and out in the open, and followed Chloe with it. As Chris started his machine, however, the sky started clearing up a little bit as the storm passed over the area. "Great...As soon as we decide to go inside, the sun comes out." Chris said. Judging by Chloe's reaction, she didn't particularly like having the sun shine on her. Either she was very prone to sunburns, or she had some sort of condition in which one of the effects was sensitivity to sunlight.

"Note to self, consider getting an umbrella for weather conditions such as these." Chris said mostly to himself, "And maybe a parasol, if that's any different." Eventually, the two got to the place Chloe called home, at least for a couple of days while she was away from her real home. Chris 'parked' his machine a little ways away from the door and hopped out. Chris waited for Chloe to show him where to go. Chris wasn't sure if there was anything else Chloe was willing to talk about, either.

Chloe and Chris were close to the hotel when she felt the clouds begin to disperse, A sensitivity to sunlight was an understatement to what happened when the sun finally slid out. Chloe let out a pained shriek and fell to the ground thrashing around as the exposed skin on her legs and hands instantly began burning as if touched by a candle. Her vision went white as her hood fell back and her face started burning bringing renewed screams as her face burned. Her eyes seemed to be pools of flame as she stared unseeingly trying to get away from the heat.

After a few moments she managed to scamper underneath the entry area of the hotel her back pressed again the wall her eyes still glowing unnaturally and she was breathing heavily . Her vision slowly returned still white and fuzzy as she blinked outt ears to stop the burning. The burns on her skin started fading quickly disappearing entirely within two minutes and leaving her skin tender. Her vision came back and the flame filled eyes dimmed back to lucid silver. She sat still for a moment before standing up gingerly and brushing off her dirtied clothes.

Now she really needed to change she thought as she looked down at her dirt stained clothes. She looked at the ground in Cris's general direction and realized that probably didn't look good to him." .......You probably don't want to come in anymore. Do you?" She asked her tone quiet and sad.

The sky cleared up further, bringing more sunlight into the area. At this point, Chris found out that her being sensitive to sunlight was quite an understatement. It was closer to a full-blown allergy. Even if she wasn't staring at the sun, she was running around as if suddenly struck blind until she found her way inside. Chris wasn't sure how to react to that, whether to try to provide some shade or to defend himself in case he got caught up in her thrashing about.

Once everything calmed down, Chris commented, "Yikes. Hopefully, it isn't all a direct effect of recently being used for Shin-Ra Super Science...I'm not saying that they're the only ones who can mess someone up like that, but I've seen them really scramble some of their subjects. I've seen someone who can't even take a drink normally due to a weakness to water..." After saying this, Chris thought to himself, "Quite a number of S words. It's a good thing I don't have to draw them out like some serpentine characters..."

Chris was then asked a question and brought away from thinking to himself. "Well, if there's nothing else that you wish to say, then there's nothing else for me, either." Chris replied.

Chloe looked up at Chris as he spoke, her eyes bak to their reflective silver tone. He seemed to be avoiding her question as if she hadn't asked it and Chloe couldn't decide if that was a good thing or not. However the comment caught her attention." I don't think it was Shin-Ra" She said quietly "At least not unless they sent the woman who drank my blood." She said her voice quiet but audible " She killed my partners when we were guarding something then she cut my throat and drank my blood. Two days later I ended up like this." She finished, her eyes were even more distant than normal as the thoughts went through her head.

Just then she heard a noise and looked up to see an older man standing near the hotel entrance. He was average height with dark and had five O'clock shadow and bloodshot eyes. All of these features were noticeable to her but not so much as the shot gun he was pointing at her. She stared at him her eyes wide as he started speaking. "Monsters.........How many times is Shin-Ra going to wreck it here?...............You work for them........you let them turn you into a freak!!!!!! He said screaming the last part and making her flinch. What was he talking about?

"I saw it!!!!!"He ranted his blood shot eyes going in and out of focus. It looked like he might be drunk. "I saw them and that silver haired monster destroy this place!!!!!!Burn it to the ground!!!!!!!" He slurred before slumping for a moment. "Kill you....." He said quietly. "I won't let it happen again, I'll fucking kill you monster!!!!!" he said his words rising from a growl to a shout attracting attention from in the hotel]. Several people looked out but nobody attempted to stop him.
"But I......Didn't......Ask for this" She said angrily her face angry as tears of rage slid down her face at the injustice of it all.

"Lies!!!!" The man howled. He brought the shotgun up to bear and Chloe had only one place to go. Into the light. She dived as she heard the gun shot and screamed in pain not knowing if she'd been hit. She screamed as the skin on the back of her neck, hands and legs began to burn again blinded and partially deafened by the blast of the shotgun. Keeping her head down she started scampering around trying to avoid the sunlight and getting shot, she wasn't sure how well she'd heal from a shotgun at point blank. She stumbled blindly for a moment before she heard a soft voice to her left. "Goodbye monster" It said softly......

"Hoo boy..." Chris said as he shook his head, "I know Shin-Ra has a tendency to let some of their less-than-exceptional subjects out to cause incidents for them to solve to that they can look good to the public, but I'm skeptical that they'd let someone that's a legitimate threat take out some of their army men like that." Just then, some guy with a shotgun barged into the hotel screaming bloody murder about some imagined threat, while staring threateningly and seemingly with the focus of a drunken man at Chloe, "This guy is a pretty good example of what I'm talking about as the former case, even if he wasn't sent by Shin-Ra."

As the man continued to rant, rave, and threaten Chloe, Chris took a moment to sneak around the man and get his weapon out of his machine. However, just as he got there, he heard gunshots. "Oh, that fool...I won't hold back." Chris muttered to himself as he readied his weapon and charged into the fray. When he got there, the man pretty much had Chloe trapped at point-blank. Chris didn't hesitate to deliver a firece swing to the man's head. "No, sir, you are the monster." Chris said as he did this, then in a quieter tone continued, "And then the drunk was a zombie."

Chloe manged to crawl into the shade just as Chris knocked out the drunk and eagerly clung to the dark spot as her vision once again returned. She blinked and looked around her solid silver eyes were wide and darting. She was used to be shot at, it was an occupational hazard. But most of the people who'd done the shooting probably did it on a regular basis and it was always during a mission. She wasn't used to people she'd liked to protect shooting at her. Or feeling so helpless about it. She looked up at chris her eyes innocently naive "What did I do?......" She asked.

Her voice was only more than a whisper, She seemed to be asking herself more than Chris. She stood up slowly her knees shaking as shock set it, she didn't seem to believe what had just happened. Up until the attack she'd survived all of her missions had gone off without a hitch. now everyone was dead and she wasn't human anymore. At least, not completely human it seemed......was she? She didn't know. She supposed she was technically but beyond that ..............She took a shaky step towards the hotel and noticed some of the people who had been watching turn away and others staring with wide eyes.

She was a mess. Her clothes were still soaked ad streaked with dirt, her hair was everywhere and her silver eyes were very wide. However the most noticeable thing to anyone other than her was the fact that not all the shots had missed her. There was a two inch gash below the last rib on her left side that had stained her clothes along with the dirt. However as they watched the shrunk and disappeared leaving behind only the blood and hole in her shirts. " You can come if you want....." She told Chris looking at the ground in her general direction before entering the hotel and starting up the stars to her room.

"You...you did nothing wrong." Chris said, "The guy just had a bit too much alcohol and somehow got it in his booze-addled mind that he was doing the world a favor by getting rid of anyone associated with Shin-Ra, regardless of how far into the works they ended up going into, which in your case, didn't seem like very far. I think I did the world a bigger favor by knocking some sense back into him."

As the two headed back into the hotel, Chris noticed that the man did manage to get a lucky shot on Chloe, albeit not a direct hit. Chris prepared to cast a Cure spell on Chloe, but then noticed that the gunshot wound had healed itself pretty quickly. Chris would have taken a day or two to recover from something like that without the assistance of a Cure, but Chloe seemed to take no more than a couple of minutes for that wound to seal itself.

"Hmm...Maybe I should leave you alone to allow you some time to get used to all the changes you're going through." Chris said when offered to join Chloe into her hotel room, "I'm not what kind of factors came into play that whoever attacked your group would stop short of dealing you a fatal attack, and even grant you a little bit of its power...but I'd say you're somewhat lucky to get a second chance...even though you can't go back to what you were before. That rarely happens with second chances anyway."
