Ok first question: Can you go from a SOLDIER member to a failed experiment?

Then the second: I am planning on redoing my character Ryuu and the current weapon goes about 50 gill over. Can I just give up 50 gill from my starting gill to get it?

That about covers it, if I have more questions I'll just post them here in this topic so I dont have to redo them every time I turn around.

Doesn't particularly like the Art of Fighting, but definitely wants to be the King of Fighters.
First Question: Yes. In fact, that's what happened to Zander.

Second Question: Yes, you may take some of your starting Gil off for your starting equipment.

As far as I know you can't use your starting Gil when making a weapon, only the 1000 you are given

Untrue, Gin. You can use your starting gil. Otherwise it wouldn't be 'your' Gil if it couldn't be used.

Yeah it would, for sure after character approval. You wouldn't have 1000 Gil to make a weapon for if you could use your own money, that and it specifically states "Your starting weapon can have a value of up to 1,000 Gil." right in the rules

in the rules Gin is right, but in practice and what has been done for as long as i can remember it doesn't matter so much and thus Kenny is right.

The 1,000 Gil is your Weapon Budget. You can add more to your budget from your own pocket basically. People have done it many times.

I think this was an informative topic, I've been telling people they couldn't when I was approving character because of what it says in the rules. Now I know better =D.

We're not a bureaucracy, Gin. We just do rather what feels fair, and we rewrite rules on a whim. Moral dilemmas aren't a problem when you just do what is right, and don't have the silliness to oppress your players.

We're also not a dictatorship Kenny, one person isn't just allowed to change the clearly defined rules whenever he wants because he thinks its fair, regardless of what the others think. I honestly don't see how allowing the use of the 100 Gil a player starts with in weapon or armor creation is any more fair when I'm sure the overwhelming majority of players didn't know about it, like myself, so only a few people get to do it now because "Some people said so".

That's kind of like saying that you can't buy something that costs a few dollars more than what you have on a gift card, even though you have enough cash on hand to make up the difference.

Most of us stuck to the 1000 Gil budget by choice so that they have a decent weapon and have some money on hand for additional stuff later (Like Materia, for example.)

Or you can also say its like winning a $1000 shopping spree and then also using the money in your pocket for the contest, which this pretty much is. The character is being given free weapons and armor, of which if he/she chooses not to make they get half the Gil back, and then they use their 100 gil to supplement the contest.

Also, I could be wrong, but I personally wouldn't say "most of us" stuck to the 1000 Gil budget by choice mainly because of the whole fact then when I was approving characters I MADE them stick to the 1000 Gil Budget because that was the budget they had. It's exactly as Sarge said, in the rules, I am perfectly correct but the way things are done now is to allow the 100 starting Gil to be used.

One thing I might add is, though completely out of context in terms of CoC, if you had $100 to your name in real life would one really spend it on an item instead of food and shelter? I view the starting Gil as a persons bank...sorta. But yeah, regardless, since Kenny and I are friends I felt he took a cheap shot at me and I took one back at him, I'm not trying to crusade against people being able to use 100 Gil especially when Cloud already made it perfectly clear they can use it.

:P 'tis all good, Gin.

Rules are only as good as their popularity. Amendments are made all the time. If we didn't change them, then we wouldn't be able to keep up with the times. We'd still be stuck with women getting paid less than men and children working within the tiniest cracks of mines.

But this shouldn't be likened to a form of government, gift card, or raffle-draw... this is CoC: a site made by nerds, for nerds.

It's imperfect and if you don't like that, well, tough titties.

The next reasonable question is could FE works for Shin-Ra and what departments would they fall under?

Tough titties? As it they aren't soft when you squeeze them? *cough*. Indeed Amendments are made for those purposes, to bad in America women still get paid less then men and some place do pay children off the books to work. *pushes up glasses*

I would assume so. Takeru is technically a FE now because of the whole Kyosuke incident yet the two of them are still SOLDIER. Being that as the case, and how the rules can be bended for fairness, I'd assume a FE could work in any department for Shin-Ra depending on who made them. That is Assume I am saying.

I also think it depends on how obvious the failness is. Someone who looks and acts like a normal human could probably work anywhere. But, someone who has like arms sticking out of them or is a weremoogle or something probably has more restrictions.
