With an effect similar to a rocket, Sam's energy allows him to actually fly as long as he has the power. The more energy he puts into flying, the faster he can fly. Requirements: None Effect: Gives the ability to fly up to Sam's speed Cost: MP cost equal to the speed/2 per post, minimum 10mp to float Name: Ki Burst (Learned) Description: Sam focuses his energy into his entire body, channeling the energy of magic into his very muscles. His muscles increase from the added energy, increasing his strength, speed, and agility. The more energy he pours into his muscles, the bigger the increase. A light blue aura covers his body, displaying the effect to the naked eye. After the technique is canceled, by choice or by lack of mp, it can't be used again for 1 post. Requirements: Magic 30 Effect: Increases Strength, Speed, and Agility by 10% for every 10mp per post (Max 50%). Cost: 10mp - 50mp per post Fist of the Monk (Learned) Description: After training with hand-to-hand combat for an extensive period of time, you have found a way to make your strikes more deadly. You can strike the opponent in their weak spots, you can find holes in their armor. Your hands are now lethal weapons to even those who use weapons. Requirements: 30 Hand-toHand Effect: Increases damage from Hand-to-Hand combat by Hand-to-Hand skill/2 as long as you are unarmed. Cost: None Body of the Monk (Learned) Description: Training your body through the arts of the monk, you have been able to withstand the pain of both weapons and magic. You have trained you body to better resist these attacks, and have gained a body stronger than most armor. You have learned to instinctually avoid danger, and as such your body sometimes acts on its own during a fight. Requirements: No Armor; 50%^ Alignment; 40 Endurance Effect: Reduces all damage by Endurance/5 Mind of the Monk (Learned) Description: After training your body to master the arts of Fist of the Monk and Body of the Monk, you're able to reach the ultimate form of the monk. And that's the ability to place Materia in your own body. By focusing your energy within, you can actually place Materia at certain points in your body without harming yourself. The Materia can be placed on the skin like Materia on a weapon, making it easy to switch them out in mid battle. Or inside, hidden from your foe. A secret weapon waiting to be used. Requirements: Body of the Monk and Fist of the Monk Effect: Place two linked Materia in your chest, and one unlinked Materia in each of your arms. Cost: None Name: Ki Burst (Level 2) Description: Through practice in manipulating his energy, Sam was able to figure out how to get the same effects using less energy. By focusing his energy in his heart rather than his stomach, Sam can send the extra power directly to his muscles through his veins. Since it’s sent directly into the muscles instead of on them, the energy is absorbed much quicker and requires less energy to travel. This allows more energy to be absorbed with less amount of time. This process can be shown not only by the increase in Sam’s muscles mass, but the color of aura that surrounds his body. A blue aura is seen when using the weakest form, and changes into a yellow aura when using the strongest. Requirements: 70 Magic; 40 Spirit; Must have learned Ki Burst Effect: Able to increase Strength, Speed, and Agility by 10% for every 5MP per post (Maximum 50%). Can’t be used the following post it’s canceled, either through lack of MP or self cancel. Cost: Ki Burst (5MP for every 10%) Name: Ki Burst (Level 3) Description: Sam has learned through practice and combat to use his energy more efficiently, allowing him to spread the energy more and increase it past the limit. By increasing his muscles, Sam has figured out how to strengthen his skin as well. This increase his endurance against most attacks, making him harder to pierce with weapons. The increase in energy also increases his intuition when using his fists, allowing him to strike and react more efficiently in hand-to-hand combat. His aura takes on a slightly different appearance, going from a blue color at the weakest (10%) and changing through the rainbow spectrum to red at the maximum (yellow = 30%; red = 50%). Requirements: 120 Magic; 90 Spirit; Must have learned Ki Burst (Level 2) Effect: Able to increase Strength, Speed, Agility, Endurance, and Hand-to-Hand by 10% for every 5MP (Maximum 50%). Cost: Ki Burst (5MP for every 10%) Name: Ki Burst (Level 4) Description: By pushing himself to the limit, Sam has found another source of energy that can fuel his Ki Burst. His own life energy, his health that keeps him alive. Though this is a dangerous prospect, he has found out that by pulling the very energy directly from his stomach and heart he can extend his Ki Burst even with a lack of the normal energy. However this drain leaves a physical wound upon his body, almost like the enemy had actually cut him with a weapon. As long as he remains in Ki Burst with this type of energy those wounds can’t heal, however once he stops the flow of that energy the wounds return to normal and can be healed. His aura changes depending on if he uses this type of energy, becoming darker the more of this energy is put into the Ki Burst (until it turns black). This is the only kind of energy Sam can fluctuate during Ki Burst, allowing him to add and subtract the energy as he sees fit. Requirements: 170 Magic; 150 Spirit; Must have learned Ki Burst (Level 3) Effect: Able to increase Strength, Speed, Agility, Endurance, and Hand-to-Hand by 10% for every 5MP (Maximum 50%). Can substitute HP for MP in equal amount. Can add HP and subtract HP cost during the ability. Cost: Ki Burst (5MP or 5HP for every 10%) Name: Ki Burst Perfect Description: Through intensive training and concentration, Sam has found a way to bypass all limits to his physical body. He has discovered a way to draw energy in from the world around him, and use that same energy to fuel his Ki. The ultimate form of his Ki Burst, his aura takes on a golden color that just radiates from his body. He is filled with energy in a constant state, and is able to wield that energy at will. For a brief moment. His body can only take so much of that energy, so he can only sustain it for a short amount of time. However while using that energy he’s able to use Ki Burst and all things regarding Ki without running out of power. Requirements: 250 Magic; 200 Spirit; Ki Burst (Level 4) Effect: All Ki related abilities and techniques can be used without using MP or HP for 5 posts. Afterwards Ki Burst can’t be used for 2 posts; and this ability can’t be used for another 10 posts. Cost: None Name: Ki Flight (Level 2) Description: Through training with flight, Sam has discovered how to channel his energy more effectively in his body. By sending it towards the ground from various parts of his body he’s able to gain more speed with less energy. This also lessens the amount of energy needed in order to remain airborne. This is a big improvement to how he flew before, which was primarily sending as much energy at the ground as possible to keep from falling. Requirement: Endurance 30; Spirit 20; Must have learned Ki Flight Effect: Allows Sam to fly equal to his speed through the air. Replaces Ki Flight. Cost: 1 MP for every 10 Speed; Minimum 1 MP to float. Name: Ki Flight (Level 3) Description: After flying for extended periods of time, Sam has discovered the key points in his body needed to remain airborne. By channeling his energy to these exact points he can remain airborne longer with less energy. Requirement: Endurance 70; Spirit 50; Speed 30; Must have learned Ki Flight (Level 2) Effect: Allows Sam to fly up to equal his speed through the air. Replaces Ki Flight (Level 2). Cost: 1 MP for every 20 Speed; Minimum 1 MP to float. Name: Perfect Ki Flight Description: Through focus and concentration, Sam has discovered the secret to flying. From a human’s standpoint that is. It doesn’t take much energy to maintain flight; just the smallest amounts can achieve the greatest results. And if you are able to channel the energy around, then you don’t have to use your own. By learning how to channel the small amounts of energy surrounding him, Sam has discovered that he can actually fly without trouble. Requirement: Endurance 120; Spirit 100; Speed 70; Must have learned Ki Flight (Level 3) Effect: Allows Sam to fly equal to his speed through the air. Replaces Ki Flight (Level 3). Cost: None Name: Heart of the Monk Description: Through focus and concentration, you have begun to discover the true essence of the monk. By clearing your mind and opening up your spirit, your body has begun to respond quicker than before. Your fists are finding weak points easier. Your body is able to avoid attacks better. Your entire being reacts faster than humanly possible. Requirement: Hand-to-Hand 70; Endurance 100; Fist of the Monk; Heart of the Monk Effect: Increases accuracy of Hand-to-Hand combat by 50% when unarmed; and increases dodge by 50% when not wearing armor. Cost: None Name: Soul of the Monk Description: You have discovered the ultimate technique of the monk. The ability to fuse more Materia into your body, and the ability to use them more efficiently. You have found you can place more Materia in your arms and chest, as well as a few in your legs. With them being so close to your body, you have discovered how to channel your energy directly into them and release their power more efficiently than before. Requirement: Mind of the Monk; Heart of the Monk Effect: Place two additional linked Materia in your chest, a linked Materia in both arms, and two unlinked Materia in your legs (Total now 10). Materia in the body now take 1MP less per Materia level (Example: Mastered Fire Materia- Fire 5MP; Fira 10MP; Firaga 21MP) Cost: See Effect Approved Techniques Name: Ki Barrier (Learned) Description: While in Ki Burst, Sam can sacrafice more energy in order to try and reduce an attack against him. By focusing the energy on one spot, Sam can use it to soften a blow against him. Weaker attacks are thrown off, and anything around him has a chance of being pushed back by the pressure. Requirements: Has to be in Ki Burst Effect: For every 2mp, reduce an attack by 1 damage Cost: 2mp or more Name: Ki Blast Description: Sam can focus his energy while in Ki Burst into one or both of his hands, allowing him to attack from a distance. By channeling his energy into one hand, he can deal his normal physical damage from a distance. Channeling it into both hands allows him to deal double physical damage. These blasts of energy travel at the speed of his spirit, though they retain the damage and accuracy of his hand-to-hand. Requirements: Has to be in Ki Burst Effect: Deal normal hand-to-hand damage or double hand-to-hand damage from a distance. Cost: 5mp-10mp Name: Ki Teleport Description: While using the Ki Burst technique, Sam can increase the speed in which he Teleports by putting additional energy into the action. It's enough to double the speed in which he Teleports, disappearing and reappearing quicker than normal. Unfortunately in doing so, his Teleport ability is temporarily disabled from being overloaded. Requirements: Teleport, must be in Ki Burst Effect: Doubles Speed when using Teleport for 1 post, disables Teleport during the second post Cost: Teleport cost + 10mp Name: Ki Magic Description: Using the energy gathered in Ki Burst, Sam can take a single magic Materia and hold it between his hands. He can then channel a large amount of MP into the Materia, condensing it and creating a shell full of the energy from the Materia. This shell grows to be about the size of a bowling ball, and is see through with the Materia in the center. Sam is unaffected by the shell of energy on the outside. He can then throw the energized ball from a distance, or slam it into a target nearby. The result causes an explosion of energy that spreads 10ft. at level 1, 20ft. at level 2, and 30ft. at level 3. The Materia then becomes inert for a short time. Sam is affected by the energy explosion. Requirements: Magic 50; Casting 50; Has to be in Ki Burst; must have a magic Materia Effect: Increases the damage of a magic Materia by .5 (Fire becomes Magic Damage x1.5, Fira becomes Magic Damage x2, etc.); and the area of effect depends on the Materia level. Sam takes half damage if caught in the explosion. Materia then becomes inert for five posts. Cost: Normal MP cost x2 Name: Ki Aura Description: While using Ki Burst, Sam can focus his energy to change the aura in his body to mimic that of a magic Materia. By concentrating on the properties of a particular element, Sam can cause his strikes to become that element, while granting his body resistance to the same kind of element. The aura that surrounds his body changes to the color of the element, the only indication of the used element besides impacts to his body and fists. Requirements: Magic 50; Casting 50; Endurance 50; Has to be in Ki Burst Effect: Grants his fists element damage, and his body to resist element damage (Example: Fire- His fists create flames on impact and his body deflects fire based attacks like the Elemental Fire combination.) More energy means greater effect: 10mp half damage; 20mp no damage; 30mp absorb. Cost: 10mp - 30mp Name: Aura Sight Description: After learning about the aura that he generates, Sam has discovered a new aspect of his ki. By focusing on a specific person(s), he can link his aura to theirs even if they have no visible aura. This allows them to communicate as if in a white room no matter how far apart they are, and allows them to create big plans in a matter of seconds. However a side effect of this technique is that with the auras linked everything is revealed. The forms of the people linked are effectively a figure generated by their aura, and thus leaves them naked to the full view of others. Also, every technique, ability, and power is also known by all parties; meaning no secrets are kept (can‘t be used to learn the ability/technique unless actually taught in Aura Sight). With this no lies can be spoken, though creative truth telling has no adverse effects. For every hour that’s spent talking in this technique, only a minute passes in the real world. Sam can also force this technique on another person if they’re unwilling, however it takes much more energy and Sam is the only one to know the secrets. Requirement: Spirit 25; Magic 60 Effect: Allows communication between Sam and others in a matter of seconds. Can be forced on others if their spirit<Sam’s magic. Cost: 10MP normal; 20MP forced Name: Ki Strike Description: Through practice with channeling his energy into his entire body, Sam has discovered how to transfer all that energy into his fist. By focusing his Ki Burst into his fist, Sam can transfer all the energy into his fist and release it as a blast towards the target. This blast incorporates all the increases in his physical stats into a single attack, and he can launch this attack at a distance like his Ki Blast. This drains the power of the Ki Burst, and can’t be used again for a long time. Ki Burst is also temporarily unavailable, though it does come back much sooner than this technique. Requirement: Ki Blast; Ki Burst (Level 2) Effect: Fires a Ki Blast using all of the bonus stats together in Ki Burst (the bonuses, not the enhanced stats themselves). Travels at the enhanced speed with the enhanced accuracy. Disables Ki Burst for 2 posts, and can’t be used for 10 posts. Can’t be used in Ki Burst Perfect. Cost: Cost of the Ki Burst used (Max 25MP) Name: DNA Fusion Description: By watching Nex and Lini perform their fusion, Sam has discovered a way to duplicate it using auras. By literally melding his aura together with another aura, Sam can fuse the bodies together on the DNA level. This fusion results in a completely new form that possesses the physical abilities, characteristics, and memories of both forms. This fused form is of one mind as it is of one body, and is able to use techniques of both forms or even combine techniques if they are compatible. This fusion is only temporary however, and can only last a number of posts equal to the combined spirit of both people (combined spirit/10). It also stops working if the fused person’s MP reaches 10% or lower; or the person is KO'd. Requirement: Aura Sight; 80 Spirit Effect: Fuses Sam with a humanoid on the DNA level (Humanoid means human, Mako-enhanced human, Sephiroth clones, Angeal clone, Genesis clone, and SOME failed experiments). The new form takes on the appearance of both (when gender becomes an issue, whoever has the highest spirit). Stats increase by half of the weaker stat (Example: Sam has 50 Strength and Chris has 100. The new stat is now 125). Skills that have no stat add no bonus (Example: Sam has 50 Hand-to-hand and Chris has 0. Stat remains 50). Each person chooses a maximum of 5 abilities from their character to add to the mix (Total 10). Can use all techniques known by either character, and can fuse 2 techniques together (Limit 1 each). Can’t use Materia in this form, and armor and accessories become unusable except for clothing. All status effects (good and bad) are eliminated. Lasts for the enhanced Spirit/10 in rounds; or until the enhanced MP reaches 10% or less, or KO'd. All HP and MP are restored upon fusion, and damage is split evenly when separated. Posting alternates between the two, starting with the second person (since Sam initiates the fusion). Can only be used once per thread, and the other person has to be willing. Cost: 50MP from both people. Name: Ki Ice Shield Description: When changing his energy into ice, Sam can gather the energy into his hands and create a shield of ice. The shield is able to take one attack before shattering, protecting Sam and anyone else that might be affected by the attack. This shield also can reflect energy based attack (magic) back at the target before shattering, and can stop even piercing attacks. However this shield takes all the energy while in Ki Burst, draining it for a short time before it can be used again. Requirements: Ki Aura (Ice); Magic 60; Endurance 60 Effect: Creates a shield of ice that blocks/reduces one attack by 50%, 100%, or 200% of Sam's (Endurance+Magic)/2 depending on the Ki Aura (Ice) level. Also can reflect energy using the same stat back at the caster. Can’t be pierced, and ends Ki Burst. Ki Burst then can’t be used for 1 post. Cost: 5MP Name: Ki Lightning Strike Description: While changing his energy into lightning, Sam can transfer the extra energy into his speed for a brief moment. This boost in speed allows him to move much quicker than normal, giving him the power to deliver a strike faster than most people can see. However this boost in energy takes all the energy while in Ki Burst, draining it for a short time before it can be used again. Requirements: Ki Aura (Lightning); Speed 50 Effect: Increases Sam’s speed while in Ki Burst by an additional 20%, 40%, or 60% depending on the Ki Aura (Lightning) level; until he hit’s a target with his fist. Deals lightning hand-to-hand damage. Ki Burst ends and can’t be used for 1 post. Cost: 5MP Name: Ki Flare Arrow Description: By changing his aura into that of fire, Sam can channel that energy into his fist like Ki Blast. However unlike Ki Blast, this energy changes into an arrow that looks like a large spike of flames on Sam’s fist. He can launch this arrow at a target, allowing it to pierce through any kind of protection they might have save physical (ability, technique, armor, etc). However the arrow looses power with every barrier pierced, reducing the damage. This technique takes all the energy while in Ki Burst, draining it for a short time before it can be used again. Requirements: Ki Aura (Fire); Magic 70; Spirit 50 Effect: Allows Sam to fire a flaming arrow at a target. Pierces all defenses except natural (armor, techniques, ability, magic, etc), but looses 10% of total damage per barrier. Deals fire magic; fire magic x1.5; or fire magic x2 depending on the Ki Aura (Fire) level. Ki Burst ends and can’t be used for 1 post. Cost: 5MP Name: Ki Earth Armor Description: Changing his aura into that of the earth element, Sam can harden it to act as a piece of armor to protect or a weapon to strike. It’s still flexible as pure energy, however anything can’t touch him because of the density of it. This gives him protection against most physical attacks, as well as gives him more power to his strength for one post. However this boost in energy takes all the energy while in Ki Burst, draining it for a short time before it can be used again. Requirements: Ki Aura (Earth); Endurance 70; Spirit 50 Effect: Increases Sam’s Endurance and Strength by 25%, 50%, or 100% depending on the Ki Aura (Earth) level. Ki Burst ends and can’t be used for 1 post. Cost: 5MP Approved Limit Breaks Name: Summon Style Martial Arts- Tri Form [Limit Break: Level 1] Description: Sam focuses his energy into his arms, legs, and chest; causing a slight change to his body. The image of Ramuh appears over his legs, Shiva over his chest, and Ifrit over his arms; almost like a hologram of the summons. His body gains the properties of the summons, giving him a slight increase in speed, endurance, and strength. His attacks also can deal one of the three elements. Requirements: None Effect: Increases Speed, Endurance, and Strength by 10%; 30% chance to cause Lightning, Ice or Fire damage. Lasts 2 Posts Cost: None Name: Summon Style Martial Arts- Dragon Form [Limit Break: Level 3] Description: Sam focuses his energy into his arms and hands; allowing them to absorb the energy. He places his wrists together, spreading his hands almost like he was holding a ball. An image of Bahamut appears over his form, with the creature's mouth open over his hands. Sam focuses the energy gathered into his hands until it emerges as a ball of pure white light. He then fires the energy as a beam towards the target, directing it slightly but unable to turn sharp corners. Ki Magic is approved then. For Ki Aura. I really like that, but it seems a bit much. ..... Up the requirements of each stat by 25 and it's approved. For free elemental and access to all elements, that's the least that can be done. |

In a way I can understand that Bones. The reason I made the requirement so low is because I plan on going down the monk abilities. And unfortunately because of that, my character Sam won't be able to use the All or Elemental Materia. Body of the Monk can't be used with armor, and Fist of the Monk can't really use weapons. And it has to be done in Ki Burst. But if you think it's still underpowered, I'll make the edit. Gin- Under powered in what way? |

Well you're paying 2x MP for one attack that only does 1.5x damage and leaves your materia un-usable for the rest of the thread. Not only that but there is a chance you can take damage from it. It just seems that its to weak to be of any real use to you. |

Good point, but it also changes the Materia into an area of effect. Even if the target's speed is faster than the casting of the magic, they have a much harder time to escape the blast. And it's not only damaging Materia, but beneficial ones like the Restore Materia. I'll agree it's not the best method, but how else would you propose to make a Materia bomb? |

These all have 1/2 approval then. Although, I was also going to ask if we may use these as a base for a revamped version of our current board-versions. I feel that if we're going to give a better standard for Monk moves, which are a little on the underpowered side at the moment, we could use these as a base :) Your approval would be greatly appreciated. |

You have my permission to use them for the revamp. I made an edit to Monk's Magic because I was told it wasn't strong enough compared to those that use weapons and armor. |

Who told you 2 Linked and 2 Unlinked Materia Slots was underpowered? ._. The one before was great... just right. Daimond, our strongest, has 4 Linked and 1 Unlinked Materia Slots. 10 Slots is overpowered. [EDITED] Edited by Kenny, Jun 28 2009, 01:29 AM.

Doesn't particularly like the Art of Fighting, but definitely wants to be the King of Fighters.

...Except you can multiply that by four (or more with certain custom abilities) pieces of equipment, meaning a total of 16 linked and 4 unlinked. (However, there is the issue of Armor Shot and Weapon Shot...) Maybe as a compromise, every X amount of Endurance beyond the minimum can allow an extra slot through the Battle Arena prizes, but at start, 2 linked and 2 unlinked, as before. Either that or have an upgraded ability for more than the starting four. |

Kurisu is right, the fact that anyone that uses weapons and armor has a distinct advantage over someone using the monk abilities. A maximized diamond sword gives 4 linked and one unlinked slot. Add that to a maximized diamond helmet, diamond breastplate, and a diamond shield and you have a total of 16 linked Materia slots and 4 unlinked. I thought that allowing 10 Materia slots would help to even the odds a bit. Besides it's half the maximum number of Materia slots compared to someone who uses weapons and armor, because they can have a total of 20 Materia slots without any enhancements or accessories.
