ACTA: Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement.
Pure, fucking, evil. Link to Wikipedia, ACTA. This is an international motion to ban the trade of all "counterfeited" goods, including, but not limited to,

  • pirated copies of movie (<--I'm ok with that one)
  • Mp3 downloads by any company other than the recording company (bye bye I-tunes)
  • Dollar Movie Theaters and selling of DVDs (*facepalm*)
  • Any internet site that allows free viewing of copyrighted material
  • T-Shirts with copyrighted graphics on them (bye bye Batman shirts)
  • Posters with copyrighted graphics on them (that's just retarded)
  • generic prescriptions (what I want to know is why the brand names are so damn expensive if the generic brands can cost as little as $10 anyway)
  • OTC generic medications (not looking forward to that, I use a lot of ibuprofen)
  • Malt-o-Meal cereal (because poor Tony the Tiger is losing profit)
  • Western Family and other generic food products (-_-)
  • all internet trade sites that trade used items, like e-bay (seriously, are they trying to kill everyone's economy?)
  • and pretty much everything that trades anything that they didn't make (I wonder if they realize that includes all grocery stores..."I'm sorry Harmon's, put you didn't create that cucumber, and you don't have a signed agreement with God to sell it.")

As you can see, this is a pretty nasty piece of work, and I only know this much of it from my non-American, online buddies, because both the Bush and the Obama administrations have refused to allow the writings of this Act to be known to the American public. Um, hello? Infringement of the Freedom of Information Act anyone? I fail to see how this particular act being made public can be construed as a threat to National Security.

Anyway, I have found a good international protest site, link, and also have heard about a global protest being organized, ACTA Black March 2012. This protest is a picket against the organizations that will be involved with ACTA, to let the government know that we can and will hit them where it hurts, their pocket book. The way to participate is simple, but will be a test of endurance. Don't buy anything online for that entire month of March. Don't go to the movie theater, don't buy any DVDs, CDs, Mp3s, posters, video games, books, magazines, or anything that they are trying to ban. Let them know exactly how much it will hurt the economy. March is the closing month on the first Quarter of the Financial year, let the CEOs see their profits shoot down like a crashing rocket, every lobbyist in the world will be screaming for the government to stop!

The frightening part is, we're not trying to keep this from getting passed. It's already been passed by every government in the world, without the knowledge of it's people. Right now, we're fighting to keep it from being ratified. It's been ratified by the Asian communities already, it's going through Europe next. We need to kill it before it beats Fenrir to the sun.

pirated copies of movie (yay)
Mp3 downloads by any company other than the recording company (Sonova-)
Dollar Movie Theaters and selling of DVDs (Wait, we can't buy DVD anymore!?)
Any internet site that allows free viewing of copyrighted material (FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU----
T-Shirts with copyrighted graphics on them (That means that the hobby stores that sell the iron-on Disney stuff are fucked.)
Posters with copyrighted graphics on them (*looks around room covered in these* ...crap)
generic prescriptions (BULLSHIT)
OTC generic medications (Some of us are uninsured you ass holes)
Malt-o-Meal cereal (D: my cream-o-wheat.... NOOOOOOOOOOO-)
Western Family and other generic food products (OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO [there goes half of what my father eats])
all internet trade sites that trade used items, like e-bay (But all the cool shit's on Ebay! Now what are we supposed to do with the stuff we don't want anymore!?)
and pretty much everything that trades anything that they didn't make (What does that mean to the states that own so much above your property? Does that mean they can't sell the building licenses anymore since they technically don't own the air they are so worried about when you build something like a barn?)

(-UUUUUUUUUUUUCK)

Fuck this! My French blood detests this outrage! This is crap, not only that, but the fact that our governments didn't notice that this was crap, is crap. I for one am definitely joining this protest.

It's sickening.
My aunt isn't too concerned about it coming into practice though, because although it's already been ratified in Asia, Arabia, and parts of Africa, she doesn't think it will live long in Europe or America. Her reasoning is thus: the places where it's been ratified don't give a fuck about what most of their people say or want anyway, so once it hits a place where the people are loud, obnoxious, and stubborn (Like France, England and America as a few examples of those who have the most influence) it will quickly die because the people will kick up such a fuss like we did with SOPA/PIPA that the politicians will be terrified to agree to it. I mean, several politicians have already been quoted saying that they aren't going near Internet Legislation with a ten-foot pole because of the damage it could do to their career.

But, you never know

National defense act, Yes Yes, a lot of people think its old news but the thing is, in the beginning of THIS year it was revised and not over the course of a year or with much debate either. It was given more power over the course of A MONTH. Its a serious issue that is being screened by things people value more then there own fucking safety. Things like SOPA and constant streaming about the 99% and things like that to distract people from the festering aids that's growing in the darkness of politics. I use that comparison because the N.D.A will turn out own national defense force against its people, The cops are already against us and national defense we will lose is the military.

Shino I personally know a few cops and deputies in my town they are not out to get you despite what people like to say. They are just doing their job even they don't always like the laws they have to enforce. If you don't like the law take it up with congress either national or state. However; don't hate teh lawmen for doing their very thankless job keeping you safe.

The National Defense Act has been around since 1916, I highly doubt a few tweaks will cause a civil war. You're overreacting, and showing signs of a clinical case of irrational paranoia. No part of the military of the United States will fire or attack unarmed civilians with out just cause. And stating that they would is insulting. We are not Nazis, we do not follow orders blindly...or even follow orders properly sometimes.

So there is no way that a law passed almost 100 years ago, for the creation of safety by allowing the president to gain control fully of the National Guard in the time of emergency *cough*Hurricane Katrina*cough*, will create a civil war.

Hahahaha, such a typical counter. Oh he is insane, oh he is irrational. There is websites and many sources of information out there.... I Honestly dont care what happens to the world, I just feel people should see the bullet in the eye instead of being shot in the back.

I really don't have to state anymore than what I did, other than I served for 6 years. Not once did I see any inclination by any member of the Armed Forces to "rise up against the civilians". Even if our commander and chief himself personally gave us the order, none of use would've followed it.

Stating that we would is a personal insult to myself and all other people who serve.

"Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of all who threaten it"

Wolf never called you insane, shino, insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting a different result. He said you were being irrational, to which I agree, there is no reason to fear the military, they are the same as everyone except, perhaps, a heightened sense of patriotism. My family has a very long line of military history, so please don't insult them again. If you want to look the bullet in the eye, look in the mirror. Irrational conspiracy theorists, like you appear to be, are far more likely to cause undue problems due to the overwhelming selfish attitude I have seen in every single conspiracy theorist I have ever interacted with. "Ask not 'what my country can do for me, but ask 'what can I do for my country'" to pull out that old cliche.

P.S. I also thank you for your service, Wolf. :)

HAhahaha, I too am a soldier, just coming to the end of my own contract in a few months now and also having just served six years, and far from as ignorant as you think. See the funny thing here is you are taking what I said far too literally. Although I must say, congratulations here on completely confusing things... very well played.

By the way, rose. you are quoting Einstein and I do not believe that to be insanity. Also, I wasn't saying Wolf was, I was saying that insanity and irrationality are the two most commonly used means to discredit something someone said.

Where is Rose quoting Einstein? The "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country," line is by JFK from his Inaugural address in 1961.

Wolf, I'm sorry I got your gender mixed up, sometimes it's hard to tell based on Usernames >///< also, I was paraphrasing Einstein with the insanity thing.

Thank you for your service as well shino, but what did you expect us to think when you started flaming civil servants and our troops?

<just to clear up confusion> I closed this thread because it had gotten far off topic and was causing contention between members.
