Hi everyone,
Recently media has been covering the burning of the Quran...a Pastor claiming he's taking a stand...
His plan was to burn a book respected by a body of people who regard the book, as one man put it, "as the words of their God"...
So from the Christian's Word of God, where we learn what we ought to behave like...where in the Word of God does it tell us to burn books, today?
Is there anywhere in the Bible where our Lord teaches us to specifically not treat men this way? Could you share scriptures?

Now in the days since this was to be happening, I noted that although this Pastor has put his burning on hold...there were several people who went ahead and burned a copy or two, the American flag was burned, murders took place using this as an excuse and the Bible and the Quran were apparently smoked ...and I'm sure there's more I've not been made aware of...
;(
So, how are others feeling about it?

While I can understand the frustration of this man, I have to agree, this is not the response a Christian should be making. Eph 6:12 certainly comes to mind at this point.

We are to love not destroy. You cannot persuade someone to Christ by attacking their religion or them. The Holy spirit must be at work with the individual in order for us to gain ground.

I'm afraid all this man's efforts will produce is a more entrenched enemy of Jesus... :(

Those are good scriptures...
You know I do not think the Pastor was that interested in bringing anyone to Christ with his plans...but rather attempting to force his hand...
One of the things in studying I believe I've learned, is that the Minor prophets teach us things we can expect in these days as God's overall plan is fulfilled...

Hab 1:1 The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.
Hab 1:2 O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!
Hab 1:3 Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention.
Hab 1:4 Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.
Hab 1:5 Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I will work a work in your days which ye will not believe, though it be told you.
Hab 1:6 For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not their's.
Hab 1:7 They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed of themselves.
Hab 1:8 Their horses also are swifter than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves: and their horsemen shall spread themselves, and their horsemen shall come from far; they shall fly as the eagle that hasteth to eat.
Hab 1:9 They shall come all for violence: their faces shall sup up as the east wind, and they shall gather the captivity as the sand.
Hab 1:10 And they shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn unto them: they shall deride every strong hold; for they shall heap dust, and take it.
Hab 1:11 Then shall his mind change, and he shall pass over, and offend, imputing this his power unto his god.

It's happening in our land today and it's going to happen because it is written...
Doesn't mean we can't speak up against it, but using the same means to fight it...I do not believe it's of God...
Things that offend a Christian are happening and it's written they will happen...the good news is that the more the prophecy is being fulfilled the closer the Day of the Lord is to us...Praise God!

But it is He that raises up and He that breaks down...
If God told this man to burn the book...I'm without understanding of God's Way in scriptures and need to learn more because right now I do not see anywhere that it is okay to burn a book...
Even if this man believed these people were the Tares God spoke of in the parable...the instruction was to leave them alone...

God promised things won't be just on the earth in these days and so it is...but God still offers protection to His own...
