Greetings everyone, Been a while since I've been here. Life has been very chaotic of lately. We are currently dividing our time between home and an aunts house. We have been staying there at night, then spending the day at home. A typical day is me getting off work, going to the aunt's house get the kids and Wife up. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday they have school from 9:00-12:30. Normally after I drop them off and the wife at work , I go home sleep for a little bit or I run errands. The aunt wants us to move in with her, I am bit apprehensive about it. There are some benefits to it and the aunt needs someone to watch her. The part I don't like is giving up the place we call home. There has been alot of drama surrounding the aunt and her house. Ever since her husband passed back on December 31st alot of people have been jocking to get something from her. Since we started staying with her its had people up in arms, there is talk some so called family members in California are planning to take us to court to get us evicted from the aunt's house, several of the late Uncle's kids who he didn't have a close relationship with want us out so they can move in, which the aunt dosent want. There are people here who want her house too, they want to sell the house and put her in a retirement community, the aunt has said when she passes she wants the wife to have her house I am hoping she lives a very long time I know when she passes there will be endless drama and people gunning for us. Move on. They say when it rains its pours and Last week it poured hard. Our truck has been out of service for a few weeks. We haven't had the funds to get it repair it needs multiple radiator flushes we were hoping to get it done with the tax return. We have been relying on the wife's car and last week the air compressor went, which cause other problems which render the car underivable. We do alot of driving through out the week. We were pass due for a tune up. Okay I have more to write about unfortunately my head is giving me signs its time to wrap up and return later |

The house and cars are hers, there are some accounts in probate but the late Uncle's kids have no legal right to anything. Infact they can't set foot inside the aunt's house. They were formally trespass. One of the Uncle's is the executor of the estate and an aunt who was an account for thirty years is handling different business accounts closing them out. So continuing on with the Tuesday hello. Since we got the digital system at work last year there has been talk of two sister Properties merging their surveillance department. Well it looks like it's about to happen and apparently it's not two Properties that are merging but three. One is a small bar and casino property that I and others would spend time at , then a separate surveillance department was created to handle that property and others. But recently they have downsize the property and the surveillance department that was responsible for it. While there are alot of rumors one thing that is apparently clear is this merger is an attempt to recoup loses incurred by the digital upgrade and one of the areas they are focusing on it seems is manpower. My supervisor ran through the logistics and numbers and determined that two supervisors, four agents and one surveillance tech can be eliminated. The general consensus is that eventually one or two shifts a week they will have a single person handling three Properties. To say the least everyone has some concerns |

My thought concerning your wife's aunt's situation is that sometimes people will try to have someone declared incompetent in order to get their hands on the money. I'm not saying that is the case here, you understand. But I feel it is something to address up front so it cannot be an issue later. Do you think your job is safe?? |

Rich To be honest no job is safe. Twenty years ago, even ten years ago, I wouldn't have had a doubt about job security. Surveillance was untouchable it was the department you didn't mess with, cut backs came other departments lost people, not surveillance though. Now the casino's are ran by auditor's and young generation of college graduates with business degrees if a department dosent generate revenue it's a burden and needs to be eliminated. Only thing is surveillance can't be eliminated casino's are required by state law to have surveillance some casinios require a room others are required to have a room and personal. We knew once the merger talk started cut backs were coming. We losing two people next week, one is transferring for a promotion and the other is transferring to another department. Rumor is they want to eliminate two supervisors positions and there agents some one explain it would save $200, 000 possibly more a year. They ran our room with three people for several weeks a como of 12 hr shifts followed 12 off, 8 on , 8 off 12 on 8 off 12 on, and it was one in the room with another person sometimes coming for an hour to help with tapes. Everyone is walking on eggshells. The two prime candidates they will eliminate will be me and a day shift agents, it's document I have headache issues the day shift agents has serious back issues, I have good night's even great nights but when I have bad nights I am pretty much useless, I rushing to the bathroom or slamming down pepto bismol like it's going out of style and to complicate things now others are complaining about the monitors and not feeling right |

I guess I could get a job in security, it would mean a drastic pay cut. If my position is cut, it's very likely that the company will transfer me to another position which would be in either security or auditing since that's what surveillance is glorified auditor's. However there has been rumors for a while the company wants to down size. Several Properties simply aren't turning a profit. The casino I work at has seen its pit daily pit revenue go from the high $75-$80 range to most days dropping under $50k even below $20k |

There are three generally three revenue sources in a casino. The first is table games which generally covers time and wage for all employees. Second is slot revenue which covers the operation cost of the casino. Third is food and beverage which really dosent turn a profit but keeps people in the casino. Hotel and gifts are separate revenue generating sources. We have been noticing trends over the last few years. Every few months these newly created position pop up for example vice president of southern Nevada global applications or director of East Las Vegas operations, or vice President of Central Nevada operations. Usually it's two or three positions created but when you log into the employee database and check terminations for the same month it's usually upwards of 25-30 front line employees were let go. Alot of these newly created positions all they are doing is taking one job in most cases and dividing into two or three positions. Some of these you look at and realize this is simply some one creating ,$90k a year job for their buddy. The company several years back went on this crazy job creation kick, the company became extremely top heavy with middle and upper management. There were director's, assistance director's, assistance to the assistance of the assistance general manager, one thing led to another and pretty soon cuts came front line slots, table games, Potter's, cooks. Then the company started eliminating management positions. One of the problems actually a serious problem is the company I work likes to go in and take control of any area, saturated it there casino's and bars which all fine and good till you start to realize your competing against yourself for business. |

As of it right now though it doesn't appear any layoffs will happen right off the bat. Two years we lost an agent and the position was eliminated. Next week we lose two more. It seems that these positions are also being eliminated. After the two team members leave we will just barely have enough to cover all shifts and to accommodate for call ins, vacation, etc. Of course eventually some accountant someone at corporate or somewhere will decide we can do without one or two additional members. All of us are convinced that this merger will beneficial in some regards is going to cause some serious issues Time will tell |

Sounds a lot like the post office in some ways. Mergers generally benefit the elite... |

Hello, sorry I haven't posted anything recently. We are in a transition phase. We are semi preparing to relocate and move in with the wife's aunt. Ibam notbto thrilled about it. We are giving up our home and being reduced to living in a bed room and sleeping on Sofa's. The aunt is old and her memory is going. This week was especially stressful both cars ended up in the shop for repairs, I think we spent $2,500 (thank God) it happen during tax season. My truck needs about $600 in additional repairs but from a finical stand point it has to wait. I love my truck even though I don't drive it much. But soon will for a while at least. We are going to have to start using separate vehicles. The wife schedule has shifted ,9-5 and with the kids starting school at 9 we figured it's best to have separate cars. We are getting ready for Zach's mom's visit for more on that check the conversation over at Debbie's comefollowme site. We are three weeks away from the merger and already there are problems  |
