Having "mastered" fabric ribbons, I was in my local newsagents today and spotted the "curling" ribbon. Poppy it was 55p for 10 metres. I cut off about 12-14 inches and proceeded to fold it as described in 'ribbon roses'. When completed it makes dinky roses I feel are suitable to mount on cards. If pulled too far they resemble forget-me-nots. I did this but pearlised pink ones do not look quite right :)
I'll try to get his nibs to post pics for me.........

I have one problem though-------
I cannot cover the stems with green florists tape because it looks too big. I tried using green curling ribbon which looks great but the damn stuff won't stick with double sided tape. What can I use ?

This is a long shot but is there any paints you can use to colour the stems, maybe enamel paint? Might be a bit too messy and fiddly though :( I'll carry on thinking :D

I use florists' wire when I make my crocheted flowers. I have used several gauges and have covered very thin wire using floral tape. If you feel the tape doesn't look right, have you considered using green florists' wire and not covering it?

Jenny, I too would use florist's wire, but the fine grade. Then cut some green florists tape in two lengthways, (you only need 2 /3 inches at the most because it stretches and clings to itself as it wraps) and wrap and pull at the same time to get the tape to cover evenly without any bunching, as sometimes can happen. I have tried this kind of ribbon roses with stem tape. It really does work. Will try to post info for embossed paper roses soon. College has finished so more time now! 2" wide Florists ribbon retails at approx £5-00 for 100 yds, but in markets and also Hobbycraft, it is sometimes available for as little as £2-50p !!! Snaffle it up while you can when it is on offer.

I hadn't thought of cutting my tape in half longways. I'll try that.
I pay a pound a roll for mine from of all places a florists.
The one I go to also sells cellophane/sellophane? and angel hair. I recently bought a metre of clear with skeleton leaves printed on, one green and one silver. I haven't bought the angel hair yet but intend to. They also had ribbon with a sky design on it. I thought of using that as a border on the edge of a card. My advice is make friends with a florist that lets you into her work room so you can see what she uses. I had only been once before and purchased ribbon. I told her what I was using it for and when I went back last week I was greeted with "Hello, are you getting crafty again?" Yep I will be going back as some of the paper used to wrap flowers is ideal for and cheaper than commercial backing paper.
Oh dear a novel again sorry.

Jenny. you are the same as me, I go to a local florist and get cellophane with skeleton leaves on it (in beige() It looks good when put behind apertures!! Anything at all can be used from florests they are brilliant places.(I suppose even dead stems), sprayed silver or gold, of course!!!! Angel hair is beautiful stuff, good for apertures and christmas bits and bobs. And even angel wings!! just cut them to shape and place behind a hair bobble Angel. Look in hair accessories shops!!!!

What a good idea. I would have never thought of checking out what the florists have and use.
