Tea Bag folding originates from Holland, but many other countries now claim to have invented it. Tea bag squares are small 1" 2" or 21/2" squares of plain or fancy paper. You can also buy specially printed Tea Bag squares that fold to form matching patterns as in Kalideoscope folding. Tea Bag squares are folded and assembled in such a way to form a rossette, this is then mounted onto a card with spacer tape( tiny double sided form mounting squares) to lift the rossette achieving a 3D effect. Usually there are 8 Tea bag squares to one rossette, but in American Tea Bag folding, there can be up to 42 x 3/4" squares. This creates multi layered rossettes, these can be quite fiddily to fold, but very beautiful when finished and mounted onto a card with double sided spacer tape. There are many folds that interlock to form different rossettes. One thing to remember though when cutting your own squares is to make all the squares of equal size and be accurate when cutting them out!!!! This really matters when the time comes to fold them. Measure twice, cut once and your Tea Bag squares will fold exactly every time!!!!!!!!!. Hope this explains it. There are many sites that let you download free Tea Bag squares and templates. Experiment and have fun with this great craft! Poppy. |
