I need to fess up here, are you ready? I really wanted to do some rubberstamping so I bought several stamps , ink, embossing stuff, one of those little dryer things ,all kinds of stuff. Well it all sits in a large container marked Rubber Stamps & stuff.
I have looked up several tuts on it and for some reason I just dont understand the embossing so I have done NOTHING with any of it.
As I was cleaning my craft room up a little(very little) today I said to myself -"self you either learn how or get rid of it"
So I am now going to read every single post in this thread and see if I cant learn how.
Whew I sure feel better getting that off my chest!! :r :r

Anne I'm sure the girls and guys on here will help you with whatever you need . I have never done the embossing myself, but I sure can stamp on anything that doesn't move. :r

:) Oh I think I could handle the stamping but I thought embossing & stamping went hand in hand! I have stamped a few things but not with any of this stuff I bought and put in a container!! :D

Anne, all that's involved is : stamp the image, before the ink dries, sprinkle the embossing powder over it, knock off the excess (just like applying glitter!), then apply heat using the hot air gun. You'll probably need a small brush to lift off a few wayward bits of powder as it can stick to fingermarks or static-charged areas. If the brush is very slightly damp, it will pick the powder up easier. Hold the hot air tool about a couple of inches from the powder, at most. As the powder heats, it melts and changes colour. Don't "overcook" it. That's it. Done! It's fascinating watching the process :D You can, with practice, emboss using different colours one at a time.

Hope that helps ;)

Steve :)

Steve as usual is right.
What colours did you get in the embossing powder?
I have got a wonderful verdigree one. You know the clour that copper goes when it gets that green mould on it.
Stamping and embossing is pretty near an instant craft Anne, should suit you down to the ground. Now you've got the heat gun you can also explore the world of shrink plastic.......that's great too.
One technique I discoverered by accident is that if you use a solid stamp and put blue and green embossing powder on it (OK on shrink plastic) and heat it so it does it thing the colours merge to make a beautiful mother of pearl effect.
One last prattle from me, make sure you use plenty of ink on the stamp, take the pad to the stamp and dab gently but plenty of times, don't just bang it down, place it and apply pressure all over the stamp, carefully lift straight up and apply the powder, leave for about ten seconds then tip off the excess, it sticks better.

Black is next on my list. I have silver, silver glitter, gold, blue, green, copper, verdigree and clear. There are many beautiful ink colours, which if you get the clear one, can shine through. I hope I don't rain on your parade now but you did get slow drying or pigment ink didn't you. The dye based ones don't hold the powder, they dry too quick.
I should probably get off my soap box, but for first tries at embossing use cheap card, not your best cardstock, until you have your confidence, and not shiny either cos the stamp could skid.
I'll leave you to it now- I made a lot of mistakes at first- can you tell? :r

Well done Anne for getting all the stamping stuff in the first place. You are doing everything we all did, that is, buying stuff you never knew you needed untill someone explains it to you!! :r
If you like layering things, you can stamp, emboss and cut out things and mount them onto cards. But if you acidently cut wrong and it shows, just reemboss the powder and it will melt and hide your mistakes!
I have only just begun to appreciate stamp embossing, you can do all kinds of things with it. If you use Stazon ink pads, they stamp onto glass and anything basically. You can then paint in the outlines. You get wonderful stained glass effects with that method.
Good luck and happy stamping!

Just a quick tip

Before you stamp rub over your cardstock with an anti static pad, these are about 3.99 or alternatively fill the end of a pair of tights with some talc and use that instead. This reduces the amount of stray flecks of embossing powder that can ruin a piece of work (esp. black!) :)

Before you take the plunge into stamping, be CERTAIN its what you want to do!! Then go to the bank and get a 2nd mortgate
I remember saying I wouldnt get into it then buying a couple of stamps, couple of inkpads you know how it goes..... Now have errrr about 400 stamps, a drawer just for dye inks, one for pigment inks, one for accessories you know how it goes

I can relate to that Vix.
I remarked last week that, this time last year, the crate that now holds just my stamps held my entire crafting stash!!!! Have inks and powders in another crate now and the papers in a chest of drawers, you know what I mean. That does not mean my punches and frilly scissors have not got their own containers too, and as for embellishments and ribbons and paints and pencils and and and :groan
