Just thought I'd share my latest piece...it's only 6.5x 7.3 done on illustration board with crayon mostly and a little of the blocks. I worked on the hotplate with a soft cloth. Can anyone tell me what is the best surface and tools to work alot of detail? Thanks so much. Verlie

Verlie, How much more detail do you want - this is beautifully detailed for a piece that small! I make my most detailed pictures on the cast-coated card (as most of us use for encaustic in the UK) and maybe use the stylus but it's not easy to be in control of fine detail with such a sticky paint as wax is; also the stylus is always remelting old stuff wherever it touches. Some people attach calligraphy type nibs in their stylus and claim to get finer control. |

Thank you for your comments and how detailed do I want to get? Well I love to draw more than anything else so tobe able to combine the wax with it seems what I want to do. In the past I've done a 1x1/2 pic of a landscape on the wall of a larger scene and you could make out the detail...just what I like to do...I don't own a stylus yet but will get one soon.

Verlie, your painting is beautiful, so full of feeling and atmosphere...I thought it was much bigger first! If you get the stylus it is also nice to work with the small, iron shaped attachment that you can get. This gives you a lot of control for details (I know Poppy loves to work with that, so she should could be able to tell you more about it.) My latest bird I did on canvas paper, with the brush + drawing tip. I like it more than the very smooth paper, but that's just personal, I think. Keep experimenting! Love, Thea

Knock knock
Verlie, a beautiful work Jenny will confirm that my alleged mind went into overdrive, last night, when she mentioned that you love miniatures
They are a high art-form in themselves, regardless of media, and I can only applaud anybody who can work on such a small scale

You are obviously a wonderful artist, as the face is so full of thoughts. A lovely piece. I didn't see it on the other side as I've not got there yet!

Thank you all...you know this site keeps me 'in stitches'..the dark side..that is hilarious! I understand there are miniature shows around the world? If anyone could give me a connection to one I'd appreciate. Just keep your eyes open. If anyone is interested? I have drawings, prints, silk painting and oils on my gallery now. Don't know why some sections are hid within others, but, hope you take a peek. This is such a supportive site. My Pensive Woman is on exhibit in a show right now. I'm off to trying a canvas today and clayboard. I'll be so glad to get my stylus. Verlie

Verlie, I just had a "peep" at your Galleries. Well, one really needs more then a "peep"!! You have incredible stuff on there. Your drawing and silk paintings are just wonderful. It inspires me to practice more for my drawing lessons..... I wonder how to do those extra galleries with in Photobucket. I have some teabag folding I would like to show, but it all landed in the same gallery Hope your canvas and clay board work out well. Hugs, Thea

Thank you Thea, if I can get the detail that you do in encaustic I will be soooo happy. Klista I think that's what happened. Now...if I go in there and move a whole album will it show up right when I copy and Paste....as they will have the old address, right? So maybe I need to upload the problem sections all over... Hope you know... Verlie

Verlie, your galleries are fantastic! On the question of sub-albums, yes you create one by entering a sub-album name. To upload to it, though, you have to click on the title of it, not just in the little circle (which seems to do very little ).Sorry being slow on this, but my internet connection was down for quite a while. Thanks Steve! Maria glad you like the drawings, they all have complex stories, but, I'd like to share the one about Factorical Worker. I was working very hard in the factory wasting my art education and talent...then I worked on this piece for 40 hours. When it was done and I learned what I was feeling and saying by studying it? I quit my job and moved in with a friend to 'launch' my art career. It backfired because of course you can't live on art work. Found myself back in the factory to support my youngest son (1998) and finally in 2002 I quit for good. My oldest daughter has most of my drawings and I hope that I will be doing many more stories with encaustic. Verlie Is that enough creepy crawlers maria?
