SORRREEEE Catherine NOT Carol Brain is not in gear yet ~ been up half the night with my daughter as shes got this Winter flu virus thats around everywhere, and altho shes over the worse of it, she has this awful dry cough thats kept bothof us awake for longer than we were able to sleep! so am not at my best today (shes 12 but I got her to come in my bed during the night as she came in to say she was really hot and felt sick and couldnt stop coughing ~ lucky her has now gone into a really deep sleep which will hopefully do her some good) |

Oh the poor thing. Would she drink some tea with honey and lemon? I give my grandkids watered down tea with that and it helps some. I did wondr what was keeping you awake. I am usually the only night owl here this late. Of course it is only 2AM here. Poor you not getting any sleep.

Well its now 8.40AM here and been awake on and off all night, so feeling a bit like a zombie ~ but then I never leave my computer till gone midnight, depending on what I have to get done. If my webshop needs work doing then it can be 2am and later before i get off to bed ~ not good when i have to get up for work the next day ~ luckily its day off today so can just chill and will probably have a cat-nap later. I swear by honey and lemon when you have a cold or the flu ~ I have always taken it in hot water only, along with two paracetamol ~ certainly works far better than anything you can buy from the shop shelf, but havent attempted to try her on that yet. My ex mother-in-law believed in allthe old remedies to get rid of bugs, and if you had a cough it was honey, lemon AND vinegar in hot water ~ I did have to add a fair bit of honey to that though as the vinegar was pretty grim, but it does work ~ not sure i could get a 12 year old to actually drink that concoction though! lol |

Probably not. Unless there was a whole bunch of honey!!! The old remedies are great alot of the time though. I come from an old combination of German immigrants and the other half is Native American. My grandma (dad's mom) had all of her cures that she swore on. I have not attempted to put a mustard patch on the kids chest though. That was one of her favorites and boy does that burn!!!
She also blow smoke into the ear when we had ear aches. She and grandpa grew their own long leaf tobacco though and it was strong stuff. Don't know if it was the smoke or heat or the tobacco but it usually worked. Make sure you get some rest. Can't keep going non stop. Believe me I know. With a daughter that had Congenital Heart defect, I too am used to sleepless nights. She is going on 26 and I still worry about her.

As a mum we never stop worrying over our kids, no matter what their age. Am really sorry to hear about your daughters condition ~ I do have first hand experience of same thing, as 13 years ago I had a daughter, Lauren, who was born with a congential heart defect, and after 2 operations she sadly died at just 6 weeks, having spent 4 of those weeks at Brompton Hospital in London, me by her side all the time. Cant fault the hospital, it was absolutely brilliant place and the staff were all angels and became like a second home to me ~ wouldhave been nice to have had a happy ending though, especially as she went through so much in her very short time on earth ~ but am sure she is happily playing with allthe other *special* children that arent meant to stay here on earth. How did we get from Teabag Card to talking about hearts????????? Well ironically, it is about Valentines and hearts play a large part in this celebration, so maybe we can be excused on this occasion for going slightly off the subject in question!!!

Mustard foot baths are still the aromatherapists trick. Me I'd go for lemon honey and whiskey, but not sure if this would be any better than honey for a 12 year old! |
