No pic just yet and good reason for this - went into garden yesterday to get inspiration for next Springwatch picture - wish I hadn't bothered..... Picture the scene: Willow on her (very long) lead blissfully and serenely lapping water from the glistening fishpond. Me, sitting on patio - sun sparkling down. K happily cutting buddlea branches, rosy cheeks.......such a peaceful, relaxing setting.......... Suddenly K picks up huge bunches of twigs to put on compost....snags his foot on willow's lead, she gets dragged into pond, he falls over - onto spiky twigs - does a breakdance in anguish, willow - by this time - being whirled around pond - covered in duckweek - like the final spin on the washine machine....
Think one of the goldfish took pity on her and bit through lead - whereby Willow runs in one direction - covered in fish do-das and aforementioned duckweed - K now looks like Edward Scissorhands with all the twigs sticking to him.... Me......well the only help I could offer was -" don't you bring that stinky old duckweed into the house!!!!!!!!!! " (I did however, console the fish, who by this time were filling out the Social Services Consent Form to be re-housed).... Such is life eh? Love x

Hi Sylvia, Steve, Jo and Jenny - This must be Buy One Get One Free Day - cos I've had right laugh at your comments..... Oh I do wish I'd had a camera - but I was shaking so much with laughter it would have been a blur (There was K - in the tone you use when you've just slipped on a banana skin and pretending you meant to do it) "Mum it really isn't that funny!!!!" All indignant, like..... Hi Jenny - can I at least reimburse you somehow for the trousers - or maybe some Vanish Oxygel???? What a life luv xx |

Hi Jin Hi Poppy - I knew there was an "i" in buddliea somewhere but everywhere I put it, it looked odd. I am in mourning - have a I really killed my buddliea (with an i) it was just that Mrs Bumface next door (long story) insists I cut everything to ground level (yes, in my own garden) but if we do it in winter - we have to see her (lovely) face peering in all the time - so I thought this would be the least time we could metally take before it re-grew. As for Ruby and Topaz - I didn't think they'd survive - the new pond is only 16ins deep (told gardener Jon it had to be at leat 24" deep - another long story) and he gave me these two whopping (14" at least) goldfish and said they'd be fine and do you know what - they are. Floated the plastic bubble on like you do - they happily played blow-football all winter - all OK. And there was at least 2" of ice covering it at some points. I would appreciate any more handy hints for not turning my garden into a barren wasteland Right - just off to scalp the lawn within an inch of its life (only joking)......... Love x

Terry, we have two buddleia bushes
The first grows in a shallow patch of soil in the midst of paving slabs and concrete blocks and the second grows from a crack between a concrete forecourt and our boundary wall That second one used to get hacked down every year, usually anytime between October and May, and we'd always end up with a tall bush the first one gets pruned severely each year, several times, and gets to over twelve feet high in no time at all
Buddleia is one of the toughest shrubs I know of
We love it for the butterflies and bees it attracts, and the fact that you see it springing up wherever there's a scrap of wasteland, even when buildings have only just been knocked down ![]() Steve |

HEY YOU'RE BACK......... Phew - thanks Steve, was beginning to feel like a serial shrub assailant....ours is covered in butterflies too - but of course main object is to completely obliterate Mrs B's mug from view. She has been known to scare the butterflies too......sweet old lady must get my daily dose of CB now - withdrawal symptoms were something else Love x
