There are actually very large colonies of ringneck parakeets in the south and south-east up into London
They're beautiful but can be noisy. The main theory is that a considerable number either escaped, or were "liberated" by activists, from an illegal importer, who couldn't report it to the Police
They can get to just over 2 feet long and are handsome birds, though they don't really make good pets, despite being sold as such. Escapees in small numbers join them but wouldn't explain their numbers as they are unlikely to have survived long enough to breed. Other birds are starting to do the same thing, as are some other animals, but they have tiny populations limited by climate. The ringneck may be a parakeet but can survive much lower temperatures than many of the exoics.Steve

How amazing is that.....the prog I saw showed them coming home to roost, at dusk and there were literally thousands of them. They turned the sky black..... Always wanted a pair of white doves - but Willow would turn them into a sarnie as soon as I turned my back...... Love x
