I belong to the Colchester Art society (in Essex, England) and they have a couple of exhibitions a year.
All work is selected by a selection panel made up of members of the society.
The next exhibition is titled "Spring into Life"
Sometimes they even accept one of my waxes!
My 3 entries are in my gallery - "Strangely Spring", "Double Helix" and "Reaching for the Light". "Double Helix" is on normal encaustic card; the other 2 are on canvas.

Hi Barry

Good luck with the exhibition.

I am rather taken with the 80cm x 60cm canvas one,, third one in your gallery.
It is beautiful .
If it were me voting that one would be the winner :D

[ Hardly fair of me, as I havent seen anyone else's work though ;) ]

Hi Barry - you have to feel sorry for the other competitors really - they don't stand a chance :thumbup; ;)

They're fantastic - I love the out-of-this-world snails especially - strangelyspring - but the irony of double helix for the subject Spring to Life must be a winner...

Good luck and fingers crossed for you

Love x

I love strangely spring. I can hardly believe you did this on canvas. How does the wax move about? You are very clever Barry. hope all three get accepted.

The selectors didn't choose "Strangely Spring" which seemed to be nearly everyone (including me) else's favourite but the other 2 will be hung in the Life Cafe & Gallery in Colchester during April.

I love strangely spring. I can hardly believe you did this on canvas. How does the wax move about?

I work on canvas which is already primed ready for oils or acrylics; the wax sinks in a bit and leaves colour which won't move but as long as you use pale colours first, these give the later-applied colours something to stick to and move about on.
I've only done 3 on canvas so far but I'm sure there'll be more - it's quite exciting!

Col!

Thank you, Colin.
Yes, pleased to have 2 accepted - I've only had none or one selected before.
But surprised that "Strangely Spring" wasn't one of the 2; perhaps it was too big as space is a bit limited, I think.

:congrats: Barry :balloons: Great result :thumbup; Of course, they missed the favourite, but perhaps they prefer non-traditional ;)

:thumbup; Well done with the two being accepted

Shame that strangely spring didnt get in aswell...

If I should be going to Colchester _ which I very much doubt ( avoids busy towns like the plague ! ) I will take a look at them.

I too am surprised that Strangely Spring didn't get accepted as it was my favourite of the 3 as well! Maybe, as you said, it was a matter of space :groan

Congratulations though on your two acceptances (mum says well done too! :D )

Sorry I've been neglecting the forum (on both our parts really) but as mum said, I just got a new job which involves me working all hours of the day and night! I will get on here and upload some more pics of mum's for you soon!

Once again, WELL DONE BARRY!!!!! :congrats: :D

Meatloaf - two out of three ain't bad..... (must have been thinking ahead to this topic ;) )

:congrats: Barry - I do sometimes wonder if there's just a little bit of the green-eyed monster where these art exhibitions are concerned.....

As you know, there's a frame shop down in Honiton and they said they'd love to take my work (and other painters too) but the art society here (they display their work in his shop) have said in no uncertain terms, that if this shop takes other work in - they'll go elsewhere to have their work framed.

The chap who runs the shop said some of their stuff really isn't up to much (sometimes) and they want the earth for it - but it's a closed shop, as they put so much framing his way.

As there was a definite favourite between us - maybe it would have been too much of a favourite at the exhibition as well, if they'd have chosen Strangely Spring.

Still, let us know when the two chosen are :sold:

Love x
