Oh my! These are wonderful! I particularly love The Hideaway. It has great depth and is quite ethereal. Night Storm is again pretty spectacular! You captured the lightening really well although I would have liked to see a bit more detail (plants etc) in the foreground...just my personal taste. The Waterfall, again is very well executed. They aren't easy to get right, but I like the fact that you incorporated tissue work to get the rocks, which give the water something to fall down. The only issue I have with it though is that it needs some rocks at the sides of the water as well to balance it all. As it is, it could look like an underwater scene, rather than water cascading down the rocks. But again, that is just my personal opinion. On the whole, I think you are showing great promise and I look forward to seeing what is still to come! Well done! Maria x |

Totally agree with what you say Maria....it's great to get a new pair of eyes to see what I don't....all down to experience I suppose. Thanks for your comments...I'll keep working at them. Cheers John |

Hi John - had a look (oh welcome by the way) at all your gallery and I wouldn't have guessed you were new to this actually. The colours you use and the perspective are really great - and I agree with M - can't wait for the next few....(no pressure there then )Pond life is my favourite, but also the Path and golden meadow. It's just going to be a question of getting even more adventurous with the fluidity of using wax. You'll have great fun - I can see you've painted before - what other mediums have you used... Love x

Thank you very much Terry for your lovely comments. To be honest the only time I pick up a brush is to paint the house (which is as least as possible ). I have never done encaustic before and I have certainly never painted or really done anything crafty/arty before. It's all my wifes fault she has been crafting for years (by the way she has just joined today, she has put her first post in the 'welcome area') and makes lovely cards...if you get a chance please see her gallery (her username is Jan B).When I get to yours and Maria's stage then I'll be happy p.s. Oswald is absolutely fantastic

Excellent work, John I too, would say that the waterfall is the one which could take some extra features There is one favourite things I always like to see in waterfall pics: the spray/spume rising at the base
I know that small waterfalls and cascades may not have it, but it helps give the impression of height and the drama of water impacting on water ![]() Steve

Funny you should say that Steve because I was thinking the same thing and thought next time I do a waterfall one I'm going to melt some white and blue wax on the upturned iron and then dip in Jan's hairbrush (sshh! she might be listening <_< ) and dab it at the base...hopefully it will work...any other ideas on how to do this effect will be most welcome...preferably before I've ruined Jan's brush
