Hi all

I decided that I wanted to make a pressie for Terry, thanking her for introducing me to EA, and keeping me going with numerous fun emails and things.

So I made her the following. It's only small (3.5" by 2.5" - ATC size) and was done entirely with the stylus. The wax is quite thickly laid on for texture, and the colours hot-mixed while painting.

I hope you enjoy!

Bravo Col :thumbup;

Not only are you technically gifted but artistically gifted as well.

I love this pic...there's just something about it that makes me look at it for ages. The texture and the colour mix and gradients are very nice.

Superb mate, well done

:ta: everyone for your wonderful comments :ta:

Terry received it today, and is very happy with it as far as I can tell. She was the one who mounted it so beautifully and gave her permission (actually suggested in fact) that I post it here.

I've used the same stylus effect in two of the ATC's that Jinny is swapping this month, so any of you who've participated in it this month may well get to have one of your own! - (quick plug for Jinny!)

Ros
Thanks for your compliment :hug: I'm glad you liked it.

Jinny
I'd say that that tactile effect is my new favourite style, I think we all know how Terry deserved it. :hug:

Poppy
Definately a :ghug: moment. Thanks!

Maria
Phew! - That was a close one. My website's now up and running again. It was forces beyond my control. I'm so glad you like it after all that.

It did take a while, but to be honest it's so theraputic painting like that, the time just flew by. It's just on regular white sealed card, and the funny thing is that although it's really textured and quite thick wax, because the stylus seems to be more efficient (no excess wax left on the backing paper, like I always get when ironing) it really uses about the same amount of wax.

Jen
Thanks ever so much for that Jen,.. Classy is what I wanted as Terry's home is so stylish. (Really, It may be small, but it's like a Habitat brochure) I'm really chuffed that she's mounted it, and is going to display it. (well, whenever I go round at least :))

John
Thanks so much for that as well. I'm really getting into creating gradients in wax, as I've always had them 'on tap' in Photoshop etc. it's interesting to build them up by hand. Technically and Artistically,.. Awww. :blush:

Superb, Col :art: It's got a real depth and strength to it that is absolutely stunning :thumbup;

So, you think you might get to like encaustic then? :r

Beautifully mounted, Terry :thumbup;

It's alright... I suppose :r

Thanks for such a great comment Steve.. the immense possibilities working with something that you can change at a whim is pretty special to me.

I'll have to get more practise with the iron though, as I'm really not as comfortable with it as I would like. The stylus on the other hand I feel very at home with.

Well, I guess practise makes perfect, eh!

Col, I was starting to drift in the direction of using the stylus more than the iron but then I started doing bigger pictures ;) The prospect of covering an A4 sheet with just the stylus was not even close to attractive :r

Thanks for that! :hug:
I'm glad nobody's asked which colours I used, as to be honest I have no idea, I just mixed until the colour was 'right'

Steve
Good point there Steve,.. though I will attempt a A4 stylusfest one day,.. I'll just make sure my diary's nice and empty before doing it. :r

THANKS SO MUCH COL :hug:

Sorry I've beens so late coming back - only just logged on - and then spent half an hour :red: :rolleyes: profusely at all the nice comments to me as well - which was a surprise.

Tell you what everyone, it's even better in real life - and the odd thing is, as the light changed in my room last night - so did the colours on Col's pic - so it really was fascinating watching quite an amazing effect of sun setting.

I'm really thrilled with it - and you all know how much it's meant to me having Colin on here too.....we live so far away from each other - it seems like he's just around the corner now........

So thanks again - Col :huggy:

Right, off to carve a new house plaque - taking down Hamster Cage Villas and putting up Habitat Mansions (oh you have to laugh.... :r :r ) Maybe I did send you pics from Habitat catalogue Col and in fact I live a one bedroomed squat......... :thumbup; ;) luv xxxx
