we had a new pottery teacher, to be honest he might as well not have been there, he didnt really talk to us much, he sort of lurked about,looked over our shoulders for a while and didnt ask any of the students if they needed anything, we have a lady with learning difficulties, and normaly needs a little help with some of her work, she introduced herself to him and that was about it! so we just go on with our own stuff. I wanted to make some gritty clay, so I got some fired clay and smashed it into small crumbs called grog, added it to the clay and it came out really nice, he asked me why I didnt just buy the clay with grog in it, I said cause I want to make it my self, he wandered off saying it looked like alot of work and abit of a waste of time! what a blimmin cheek! he also confessed that he didnt listen to our usual teacher when he was explaining how to use the kiln! how fantastic is that then? :groan :groan
well, I suppose I need to give him a couple of weeks to settle in but its not looking that hopefull! :huh:

we shall see! :ph43r:

While I like a teacher to be willing to let their students get on uninterrupted, it's really not much help if they don't actually do any teaching :wacko: I agree with Poppy - challenge him by giving him questions that need answering! He may be feeling a bit out of his depth or daunted in a "real" situation, but he's been employed to do the job ;)

I didnt think he was that bad sis, he had a good few tips, and tricks, but like you say, he wasn't up to much, considering he has been teaching for years......I would have thought he could get a little more involved.

Its only for 12 weeks, then our usual tutor comes back.

he was sooo laid back, anymore laid back and he would have been asleep! Im just hoping he manages to fire our work properly!
I was hoping that he would bring some of his work with him, he is supposed to specialise in raku which I would love to do, smoke firing and all sorts but he wasnt that over talkative about it!!

perhaps Im being unfair and should give him a bit longer to settle in...... :thumbup;

:r I was picturing our Smoke when you said that (the smoke is the ammunition sgt.)
That's a shame you didn't take to him! hopefully he's maybe just a little shy and will be more friendly in the next couple of weeks.
