Hi M - maybe too late - but do you remember me boring everyone silly with the salt drops/gargle/theory.....when preventing/early stages of colds and sore throats.

quarter of a teaspoon of salt in half cup of warm water - gargle three times - do this 3 times a day especially last thing at night.

To soothe your throat now - 1 teaspooon of glycerine (Boots - about 80p a bottle) in cup of warm water and sip through day - throat gone (well - not throat, that would be drastic - sore throat....) poor you...... :(

:lol: Yeah...I had heard that one. I always prefer natural remedies to antibiotics any day!

The glycerine sounds good! Can't beat good old honey and lemon either!

I've never tried the glycerine idea ;) And I can't gargle - the drink reflex is too strong :r :r

Salt water, especially sea salt, is excellent for blisters :thumbup; It soothes and makes them less prone to damage :thumbup; In fact, despite the health nuts banging on about it, salt's an excellent remedy for many things :D A bit like vinegar, in that respect, though not as smelly :r

Jenny and I had friends in France, who we stayed with for our honeymoon. One morning, the girl was really miserable and grouchy with a sore throat :eek: I suggested a remedy: A cup of fresh cream with lemon juice in it. Swallow in one go. Her throat was fine after that :thumbup;

I agree that Glycerin is a really useful thing for colds/sore throats, but have you made sure you're read the warning label though?

Here's what my bottle says:

Glycerin is harmful in large doses, if you accidentally take too much see a doctor straight away. Side effects may be,....:

Headaches, Nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, diarrhoea, thirst (ooh, I'd hate to get that), dizziness, mental confusion (Terry take note), irregular heartbeat and severe dehydration.

:huh:

Who'd have thought it eh!

I noticed that while I was making a hot toddy when I had a cold last.. but luckilly I decided to add only a little glycerin, so as not to dilute the scotch too much.

:lolol:
