Oh, I am having SO much fun experimenting with my hoplate now. Tried doing some 'swiped' A4 backgrounds with some remarkable results!

I completed this one with the iron and stylus, having swiped the card on the hotplate first, then seeing the wizard standng with raised arms right in the centre. I added the dragon (well, there HAD to be one! :P ) with the stylus.

It's as if he's commanding the green shadows in front of him....wonderful.

Maria, did you say that you used the dtylus for the wizard or was he 'created' from the swipe?

John, the wizard is a bit of both. He was 'there', as were the staff/wand he is raising. I had to add the hat and shape his robes with the stylus and iron just to enhance him.....but the outline was there from the swipe. Funny how it goes though, because when the original swiped image was turned the other way up, it all looked like a load of jelly fish, so the finished painting could have looked a whole lot different!

 I haven't even begun yet! So much in my head to get down on card!!!!

Incidentally....I sold one of my A3 abstracts at an exhibition today. Only found out when I got a lovely email from the guy who bought it. I was honoured and somewhat humbled when he likened my work to Richard Dadd! I mean...that guy is my all time favourite artist and it just doesn't seem proper that my name and his should even be mentioned in the same lifetime!

I'm gobsmacked, if truth be told!

Way to go Maria :sold: :sold:

WOW what an honour to be likened to Richard Dadd. I understand where he's coming from especially with some of his colours in the faerie pics.

Will you still remember us all when your rich and famous

p.s. thanks for answering my question on the wizard

p.p.s. I'm still so jealous of your talent

Steve, Dadd was simply AMAZING, despite having huge mental health problems. You can read a bit about him here, and Faerie Feller is also on here too. Man...I LOOOOOVE that painting!!!

I tried doing a link but it wouldn't work, so try copying and pasting it into the search box.

That's right, Gymbob. It had been stuck in someone's attic for years and years and when they saw it on Antiques Roadshow the man on there almost fainted! Turned out to be this priceless piece:

A Halt in the Desert

I remember watching that show at the time and my jaw was on the floor. Honest, I had tears in my eyes it was such a wonderful moment!

I love that kind of "fairy cavalcade"/"goblin market" art, Maria :thumbup; I used to have a wonderful book, or it might have been my sister's ( :D ) that had plate illustrations like that :) I could spend hours just looking :D

The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke is the one that the guy who bought my painting referred to. It's my all time fave pic EVER, as I said.

The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke

Freddie Mercury even wrote a song all about it after he'd seen it at the Tate Gallery (being a brilliant artist at one time himself before the music found him!)

See if you can spot all the characters in the song!

The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke

He's a fairy feller..
the fairy folk have gathered, round the new moon's shine
To see the feller crack a nut, at night's noon time
to swing his axe he swears, as he climbs he dares
To deliver the master stroke, ploughman wagoner will' and types
Politician with senatorial pipe, He's a dilly dally oh
Pedagogue squinting wears a frown, and a satyr peers under lady's gown
He's a dirty fellow, What a dirty laddie, oh
Tatterdemalion and the junketer, there's a thief and a dragonfly trumpeter
He's my hero ah, Fairy dandy tickling the fancy
Of his lady friend, the nymph in yellow (can we see the master stroke)
What a quaere fellow

Soldier sailor tinker tailor ploughboy, waiting to hear the sound
And the arch magician presides, he is the leader
Oberon and Titania watched by a harridan
Mab is the queen and there's a good apothecary man
Come to say hello, fairy dandy tickling the fancy
Of his lady friend, the nymph in yellow
What a quaere fellow
The ostler stares with hands on his knees, come on mister feller
Crack it open if you please
