Had another little play with the hotplate today (thanks for posting that tutorial Barry) and this is the result.

It's A4 and created by putting the card on top of the plate and using the waxes as crayons.

Blimey!

What does that remind me of Edvard Munch's 'The Scream' so much ?

I think it's the naivity of the lines, and the subtleness of the curves.

It's wonderful Maria,.. I have to say I really like these abstracts that you're producing of late.

:lol: Never saw the similarity till you mentioned it, Col. I happen to like The Scream a lot too. What a pity they have never recovered it since it was stolen. Reckon they'd take this in it's place? :r

Naaaah! :P

I must say, I am enjoying painting the abstracts too. I think encaustics look fabulous on a large scale! I'm working up to A2 at the moment.....watch this (very large) space!

Hi Maria

I love the effect you have got, all the work done on hotplates really appeals to me, but whenever I start I end up doing landscapes etc, as my patterns just look a mess!

Love your work!

Wow indeed! :o :art: Must admit, my first reaction was that I was looking at an illustration of an elemental! :thumbup; Superbly done, Maria :)

Sally, all I can say is, keep it simple, at least to start with, then if it's not going to plan STOP! Leave it a while and go back to it and then use different techniques and add a few more colours to add to the picture as a whole.

Maybe start with geometric shapes and put them together and build on that?

Then look at what the wax has done on it's own behalf and let your imagination take over. That 'mess' will soon become art!

Just takes a bit of practice really.

:thumbup; :thumbup; :thumbup; This is fabulous Maria - I'm hoping to get a hotplate in the not too distant future and can't wait to start experimenting, especially with results like this! :huggy: :love: Sylvia

:wave: I really love seeing all these new styles from you M, I know it's not quiztime, but I immediately saw a dragon here. (If you look just left of centre, you'll see it's eye and the whole dragon then takes form)

It's not like your usual friendly dragons - this one is really menacing with an amazing energy.... fantastic :thumbup; :thumbup;
