I put the hotplate away as it was rather too warm to use it today, so instead I got the iron and stylus out and did a little mermaid pic.

Thanks! Yes she was done using a stylus. Took about 5 minutes to do the background and nearly 2 hours to draw the mermaid! Worth the effort though!

She is beautiful, I love the way her hair is floating in the water.

 Her face took AGES to get right! At one stage she looked so hideous that I scraped all the face out and started it again! I used my home-made encaustic crayons to put the shading in, then carefully melted the colours in with a clean stylus tip to build up her features. That is really what took all the time!

It's funny how, even though they are the same, stylus drawing tips all feel different to one another. I have several drawing tips, but one (the one I used on this) seems to give much finer lines than another. Yet I prefer the other tip for doing things like the scales on the tail. Just feels different when you are using it somehow. Strange!

 I wish I had your faith Catherine. To be honest, Ebay has gone a bit dead as far as encaustic wax is concerned. Nothing seems to be selling very well. Maybe it's because of the time of year? I reckon things will pick up again come the autumn though.

I have a few exhibitions that I've entered, but no craft fairs at the moment. Might be organising our own again later in the year though. Actually, it's quite nice to have a break from fairs so that I can get on with some larger work. :D

Good luck to you and Magz though....I'm sure you'll do well!

That's definitely the kind of siren I prefer, Maria :D A real beauty :art: and so much less head-splittingly noisy than others :)

 Ah yes, but her beauty is deceptive! Her beauty and her song lures the unsuspecting to their peril. Mind you.....I suppose there are worse ways to go!
