Picturetrail Or Photobucket?; which is better?

For those who have a photobucket free account like me and who is always in danger of having images lifted from their albums I have discovered a new free account called Picturetrail that lets you have the similar album to photobucket, but no url's showing and also has the benefit of right click protection on all your images??? Which I find brilliant.

It means I cannot just pop in an image into my posts like we sometimes do in Encaustic Art. But we can keep them in a safer place now.

You could always use photobucket to copy and paste into threads if you like?

I had seen picture trail onanother site recently and just opened an account to post cards I have made using 3D sheets - so I can give the designers name. It seems quite easy to use too.

I wonder how long it remains free for?

This is one of the items from their terms.....

New PictureTrail members are assigned a free Intro Account. After 31 days, they are switched to the free Basic Account if they have not already upgraded to the Premium account level. Free Basic accounts are eventually phased out from the system if not upgraded to the paid Premium level.

:ta: Barry :thumbup; That's why I didn't include Picturetrail in the recommended services ;)

There are lots of image hosts, but few that offer the quallity of service offered by Photobucket :) Webshots are a better option than Picturetrail but not quite as simple as Photbucket. You can switch off the links in Photobucket, just switching it on long enough to grab the addresses you need ;) The anti-right click actually only works if Java is enabled, so anybody who switches it off will still be able to use right click :( The only sure protection is watermarking your images and keeping them at a maximum 72 dpi resolution (so that they won't print out at good quallity above the uploaded size) :thumbup;

There are people who have had their accounts for a lot longer than 31 days and are still there. Mine is the basic one.
I just don't like the links showing in photobucket.

The initial period is for 31 days, then it shifts to the basic account, Poppy ;) That could be erased at any time if you don't upgrade to the paid service.

In Photobucket, there are options you could make use of ;) First, you can switch off the link displays. Second, you can make your album private, with password access for allowed viewers :thumbup; Both are done through "account options" ;)

If anybody would rather use the private option, then I would suggest the use of a password common to all on CB, so that it's easy to remember :)

The problem with services that "flush" accounts periodically is that any posts on forums which access those accounts will instantly lose their pics :(

I do keep an eye on developments, hoping that it will be possible to have our own dedicated gallery system that provides greater security for all - such as automatic watermarking of all images :thumbup; At the moment, few hosts offer sufficient space to host that unless you pay for it

I am reliably told that after the 31 day trial it is replaced with the free basic account. I can keep approx 30 pictures in the account, all I need to do is delete and replace with new ones when i want to. It is free with advertising banners, but if you can ignore them then you have no problems. You only pay for the removal of the adverts.
I am happy to have it anyway, banner adverts and all.

Fair enough, Poppy :thumbup; Just remember that the so-called "right click protection" is a nonsense and nowhere near as effective as watermarking ;)

Personally, I'm happier with Photobucket and Webshots, with fewer restrictions on how much I can store, and for how long :)
