I was waxing again today and was listening to Loreena McKennit's rendition of the 'Lady Of Shalott', which just happens to be my all-time fave poem, and the line came:

'She hath no loyal Knight and true'

and it kind of conjoured a picture.

So I thought, what if the lady hadn't been cursed? What if Lancelot had got there in time and he became her loyal knight?

And this was the result!

Her Loyal Knight and True

I kind of got a bit emotional painting this!

Thank-you everyone. The poem always gets me going and the sung version by Loreena McKennitt is a right tearjerker, so by the time I came to completing this I was very focused on what the characters were feeling, so I guess that has somehow come out in the finished painting.

This was intended as a kind of practice for doing the same kind of thing, only as an A3 (this is A5). I'd like to do a series of Arthurian themes.....I'm currently reading 'The Once and Future King' (T. H. White) having read it years ago, plus I dug out Rick Wakeman's 'Myths and Legends of King Arthur...' which has filled my head with paintings, though at the moment they are all jumbled up!

The scope is vast though...so many characters to choose from!

Watch this space! (Though it could take my lifetime to paint them all!)

Yes, very celtic! I have to admit though, with Lord of the Dance, I can listen to it, but watching it is another matter. Can't stand those dancers! It's the arms! :r DO SOMETHING WITH THEM!!!!!! :r

I find celtic music is very good for painting fantasy/pagan themes. Gets me right into another time and place.

Worth trying, Sally! (I'm still waiting for your first fairy!!!! :P )
