After visitng the boards this morning and having a great chat with you all, Maria suggested Exhibitions, well I was :r :r :r :r :r , at the thought of my work being upto any standard for a wall never mind an exhibition, I was slapped on the wrists and told off for putting myself down, so I thought Maria maybe I could do an exhibition in the future......

I got straight to work with my waxes and I have done this landscape, I have signed it and it is my first piece for - any future possible exhibitions. :P

It is A4, using Iron, Stylus and Hot Wire Brush.

I dont know about you guys but I am absolutely over the moon, I am beaming from ear to ear :D :P ;) :lol: :lolol: :razz: :thumbup;

Thanks for all the inspiration, I know for a fact that I would not have been able to achieve anything like this without :cb:

:thumbup; Just goes to show what a bit of self-confidence can do for you!

That is as good a painting as any I have seen on show this year! I love your foxgloves and the whole composition is just great! Makes you want to wander that path by the river!

And I am with Poppy as regards the brush. Not my favourite stylus-tool, so well done you for using it so well.

Now get this mounted and framed and into that Nottingham Castle show! I wish I was up there too.....could do a few pagan Robin-Y-The-Hood themes! :lol: Now THERE'S a thought.......!!!!!

Truly beautiful, Sally :art: :nw: Maria says it all, really :) I must admit, my two favourite stylus tips are the pen and the brush ;) I was starting to feel outnumbered by brush-haters :D

Maria, will you slap my wrists too? :r I could do with inspiring :thumbup;

Steve...there is a little exhibition coming up in Great Bentley soon. How about you getting something ready for that? Come on...you know you want to!! :lol: I'm putting some work in so you'll have good company. It's a lovely show in a lovely setting and they have cake! :P (not that I can have them but.....)

Anyway, if you want the forms I'll copy them and post them on to you....just let me know!

Thanks everyone :P

I can honestly say that the wire brush is my favourite tool!, in fact I was thinking of getting in touch with Barry for a couple more, they dont seem to stay 'nice' for long, I use it by dabbing and lifting the wax off, but my poor bristles are now all bent and messy, anyone have any tips on sorting it out?. It also feels rather weak at the end of the bristles and keeps bending - I think that I have probably overworked it. Could be expensive though if I need a new brush every month!

My worst tool is the stylus <_<

Jo, the exhibition is inside the church and in a room off the exhibition they serve coffee and homemade cakes! ;) Don't think they hang around long enough to display though! :r

Maria, I suspect that all the pieces are framed? :) Sadly, that's not something I can afford to do :( Things are very tight at the moment and even cheap ready-made frames are out of reach for the time being :blush: I'd love to know when it is, though :thumbup;

Sally, I usually just work the wires straight again, using a pad of tissue, while it's still hot ;) It does weaken over time, of course, and some of the wires will probably break away through metal fatigue, but I've managed to keep mine in good condition so far :) Once it's cool, you're more likely to have problems sorting out the brish ;)

The brushes do detiorate, especially if you leave them in the hot stylus for long periods at a time - the plating seems to disappear from the wires leaving them very thin.
Even when new, the wires are easily tangled and very difficult to untangle so unless you want to buy lots, treat them with respect!

Hi Barry

I am definitely going to need another one soon, but I am definitely going to be more careful in future, I was a little heavy handed with it at first so I am not surprised it is in a mess! :groan

I will have a go at straghtening it out next time while its hot as when it cools it just looks like a ball of mess! :r

Sadly, in this case, that is correct. Other exhibitions that I have taken part in do have a section for unframed work, though they must be mounted and packaged, but even that is cheaper than complete framing.

To save money, I cut my own mounts and you can get some really good frames if you shop around. It does make all the difference to the pictures, so even if you only get one framed every so often, you should try to do so. Then when they DO start to sell, the money you raise can be put towards framing others, and hopefully that should start you off on the exhibition scene.

Hope things improve for you soon though. We've all been there at some point!

:hug:

Thanks, Maria :) We're recording a version of "Blame it on the weathermen" : "Blame it on the taxmen" :r :r Roll on next year ;)

I've not yet framed any of my own encaustics, and only a few of my watercolours :blush: It always worries me that I'll end up running completely out of space :r :r

:r You think you have probs? You should see my place! Can't move for pictures! :P I wonder if I work hard enough that I can persuade Chris to convert our garage into a gallery/studio for me?

Hell....that would take one heck of a lot of guile to do that! :r
